Chapter 96: Taking Quanzhou from the Bag

Li Cheng's entire family was slaughtered. The eyes of this originally indecisive, cowardly and incompetent surrendered general were now filled with anger.

He began to despair again, as if he had been completely defeated. He lay on the ground like a dog, his mouth full of mud, his hands scratching the hard ground until they were bleeding.

He didn't feel any pain, after all he was a general commanding thousands of people, but now he was like a dead dog in a stinking mud ditch.

His subordinates were all silent. Confucius walked over with a cold face and several personal soldiers.

Cheap comfort was of no use to Li Cheng. He had nothing left. His wife, children, and mother were all gone.

"Bang!" With a kick, Confucius kicked Li Cheng, who was lying on the ground, hard.

Everyone was shocked, and Li Cheng's subordinates showed resentment on their faces. But they were now Song Rao's surrendered soldiers, and they were still under the same roof.

Could it be that these Song people, like the Mongols, did not consider themselves human beings? Some began to regret surrendering to the Song Dynasty.

Li Cheng did not react at all. He still lay on the ground motionless. With a "bang", Confucius kicked him again.

The kick was so fierce that Li Cheng was kicked out.

"Captain!" Even the people around Confucius couldn't stand it anymore. Li Cheng's subordinates looked at Confucius angrily with red eyes.

Li Cheng was now lying on his back, his eyes dull and staring blankly at the sky above his head.

Confucius walked over slowly, and Li Cheng didn't even blink.

This time Confucius didn't kick him again. Instead, he grabbed his collar and said, "Waste! Coward! Mud! Garbage! Maggot! Scavenger!"

Confucius attacked him with vicious words, but Li Cheng did not respond. Now Li Cheng's subordinates began to understand that this Song general did not mean to insult them, but was helping Li Cheng.

Help Li Cheng to resolve his emotional issues and rekindle his fighting spirit. But Li Cheng seemed to be dead, with no movement at all.

Confucius lifted Li Cheng high in the air and threw him to the ground. This time, the fall was so severe that blood started flowing from Li Cheng's nose. His subordinates began to murmur again, as they were not sure whether this crazy general really wanted to kill Li Cheng.

Confucius stepped on Li Cheng's head with his foot, which was a huge insult: "Look at you, you are like a piece of shit."

Li Cheng remained motionless like a dead pig, but a tear flowed from the corner of his eye.

The Iron Wolf Army does not believe in tears. Tears are something they avoid like ferocious beasts.

"Do you want revenge with tears?" Confucius asked coldly: "If you want revenge, then stand up and sacrifice your family with Shaobu's blood!"

Li Cheng's body shook, and he seemed to have some reaction.

Confucius unfastened his legs and squatted down. This time he spoke less loudly: "My father and mother both died at the hands of the Jurchens. Like you, I was once as dejected as mud. I also once believed that the Jurchens were invincible, but then I saw that Your Majesty was determined to fight them, so I joined the army and followed the royal division all the way to the Jin capital, Shangjing.

It was only then that I realized how weak the Jurchens were. Your Majesty has decided to go to war with the Mongol Empire. With the strength of our Song Dynasty, I believe we can defeat the Mongols. If you want revenge, then stand up like a man!

Li Cheng's whole body trembled, and he finally moved, his fists clenching. A hint of relief flashed in Confucius' eyes. He ignored Li Cheng and stood up, brushing off the dirt on his body and turning away.

"General!" Suddenly, Li Cheng's voice came from behind Confucius. Li Cheng had already stood up. This time, he stood straight. He felt that he had never stood so straight before: "Thank you, General!"

Confucius paused, but didn't turn around. He simply tilted his head and smiled. "We don't have generals in the Iron Wolf Army. I'm the commander of the Second Blue Wolf Regiment. If you're interested, join our Second Blue Regiment. If you don't mind the position, you'll be the commander of our Independent Reinforced Gray Wolf Battalion." (The Iron Wolf officer titles are a bit out of place, mainly because I still can't figure out the Song Dynasty military system. I can only use modern military terminology instead. Sorry.)

"I am willing to follow the general, regiment commander, until death!" Li Cheng clasped his fists behind him.

Confucius smiled and waved his hand: "The army will retreat twenty miles and set up camp!"

Three thousand brothers were left at Sunset Hill, and Gert fled in a panic with only more than two hundred people. He never imagined that Quanzhou was in dire straits now.

"Captain, move forward. There are Song troops ahead." Centurion Baganda was one of the few remaining soldiers who rushed out with him.

Gert, who was already in a state of panic, was even more shocked when he heard this. How could he have imagined that a team of Song troops would appear when Quanzhou was so close.

"Captain, please look." Baganda's voice was trembling.

He couldn't help but be surprised. He felt his throat dry, and below him lay a dense mass of Song army tents. Less than twenty miles from Quanzhou City, there was a Song army stationed there.

What he didn't know was that this was none other than Confucius's Blue Wolf Second Regiment, which had already attacked outside Quanzhou City.

"Who are they?" The spies Confucius had planted on the periphery discovered this cavalry.

Gert was shocked, but fortunately one of his men was quick-witted and shot the spy dead with an arrow.

Little did they know that the Iron Wolf Army's spies were always in groups of three, supporting each other. Each of them kept a distance of about fifty steps, so if one of them was in danger, the others would immediately raise the alarm and rescue.

Another spy, upon discovering his companion had been shot dead, was so frightened that he turned his horse's head and ran towards the military camp, shouting as he ran: "Enemy spotted, enemy spotted!"

Another spy pulled out a pipe from his waist, took out a lighter and lit the fuse. With a bang, a blue firework exploded in the air.

Confucius, who was resting in the military camp, saw the rocket signal from the eastern hilltop and immediately responded: "The second and third battalions, take your men to the eastern slope as quickly as possible!"

The Iron Wolf Army's reaction speed was no less than that of the Mongolian soldiers. In the blink of an eye, the two hundred-man teams in the barracks had assembled and began to march towards Dongshan.

Gert, who was on the eastern hilltop, was so frightened that he quickly mounted his horse and said, "Retreat! Retreat! Return to Quanzhou!"

There were only more than 200 defeated soldiers, and they had no fighting power at all. Everyone rushed towards Quanzhou.

The soldiers of the 1st and 3rd Blue Wolf Regiments led by Zhu Qing were chasing after Gert, and they were also rushing towards Quanzhou.

Zhu Qing wanted to meet Confucius in Quanzhou. If the defense of Quanzhou was relaxed, the Iron Wolf Army would take Quanzhou.

The Mongolian army was dispersed, and Quanzhou was relatively isolated at the border between Song and Mongolia. If there was danger, the Mongolian troops would not be able to rush to the rescue quickly, so Hebule stationed a 10,000-man team in Quanzhou.

However, he did not expect that this 10,000-man army had been completely killed or wounded, and the main force of the Quanzhou Mongolian army was killed at Sunset Slope.

Once Zhu Qing and Confucius reunite, taking Quanzhou will be as easy as taking candy from a baby.
