Chapter 140 Panic

"Oh dear!" Jiang Shan pinched his fingers, glaring angrily at the blue crab slithering across the cutting board, a strange flutter in his heart.

I was making crab rice for Jianghuai when I first cut my hand with a knife, then got scratched by a crab, and my right eyelid has been twitching since this morning. I don't know what's wrong with me.

"Miss, let me do it!" Liangchen stepped forward, picked up the knife from the cutting board, and hesitated before brandishing it a couple of times.

Jiang Shan shook his head nervously, "Don't hurt your hand. Let's not cook anymore, let's just eat something!"

The letter sent to Fu Qiyuan should have arrived by now, but there has been no reply. Jiang Shan is getting restless and has been unable to concentrate on anything these past few days.

Liangchen tentatively asked, "Is Miss worried about Lord Fu? Why don't you ask Young Master An to go to the prefectural capital to find out some information?"

Jiang Shan's eyes lit up, then he shook his head and said in a deep voice, "I need to go back to Guyang County to be at ease! You go find Fu Wen first and ask him to make preparations. I'll go tell Young Master An that we'll set off tomorrow."

Liangchen had no say and could only agree before hurrying off to find Fu Wen.

When An Jing heard that Jiang Shan was going to take Jiang Huai and San Lang to Guyang County, his face turned dark.

"You can't go!"

Jiang Shan patiently explained for a long time, but An Jing still disagreed.

"You must consider the safety of Jianghuai even if you disregard your own safety. Pirates are rampant outside, wreaking havoc everywhere. What if we run into them?"

Jiang Shan rolled his eyes: "I'm not unlucky, and besides, I ride in a carriage, not a boat!"

"That won't do either!"

Jiang Shan paused for a moment, then turned and walked out.

"I'm just informing you, I'm not asking for your opinion."

Honestly, they won't listen to nice things and only like to hear harsh words!

Fu Wen was also undecided, so he pulled An Er aside to a secluded corner to whisper to each other.

"What did you say? Young Master...!"

"What do we do now? Has the young master given any instructions?"

"Young master has given no explanation, and young lady wants to go back now. Should I let her go or not?"

"If you don't speak, I'm now Miss's person, so I'll listen to Miss!"

An Ersan couldn't utter a sound, but Fu Wen, driven to desperation, gave in.

Jiang Shan left without hesitation, rushing to the bamboo hut early in the morning to bid farewell to Mr. Xunmei. He dug the bewildered Sanlang out of bed, picked up the fast-sleeping Jiang Huai, and set off.

Saburo sat in the carriage, his mind still reeling.

Is he on his way back to Guyang County? His sister said she would take him back to Guyang County to see their mother and brother. Is he dreaming?

He couldn't help but lift the carriage curtain and ask Fu Wen, and after confirming that it was correct, he asked Liang Chen.

Once he confirmed the reliability of the news, he cheered inside the carriage.

"Sister, why are you suddenly taking me back to Guyang County?"

Jiang Shan felt a bitter taste in her mouth, but she couldn't say it.

Fortunately, Saburo was only focused on being happy and didn't think about the worst-case scenario.

The carriage traveled swiftly and arrived in Guyang County the following evening.

Jiang Shan went to the county government office first. It was late at night and everyone in the county government office had finished their shifts, with only a few yamen runners on duty.

The yamen runner recognized Jiang Shan and greeted him warmly.

Jiang Shan immediately asked, "Are there pirates in Guyang County?"

A constable sighed heavily: "Miss Jiang, you may not know this, but the pirate leader, Boss Sha, fled to Guyang County with a few men and went on a killing spree here, killing several people..."

"Shut up!" Another constable immediately covered his mouth.

“Miss Jiang, you should go home and see the old lady of the Jiao family…”

Jiang Shan was greatly shocked and boarded the carriage without looking back.

"Quick, back to the Jiao residence! Something's happened there!"

Sanlang's face turned pale instantly. The ecstatic joy of seeing his mother turned into terror in an instant, and he felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave.

"Sister, what happened to Mother? What did they say happened to Mother?"

Jiang Shan held Sanlang's hand tightly, pulled him into her arms, and forced herself to remain calm, saying, "It's alright, Mother will be fine. Isn't there your brother? He will definitely protect Mother. We must believe in him!"

Sanlang pursed his lips, nestled against Jiangshan, and remained silent.

There was a section of the road from the county government office to the town that was not very smooth, but the carriage did not slow down, jolting Jiang Huai awake from his sleep.

Perhaps disturbed from his sweet dream, he burst into tears, his little mouth agape.

Jiang Shan was annoyed by Jiang Huai's crying. He tried to soothe her several times but failed, so he simply lost patience and let her be.

Liangchen tried to coax him gently, but she couldn't stop the little tyrant's thunderous rage.

So much so that when the carriage arrived at the Jiao residence, several people inside were awakened by the loud, impassioned cry. They put on their clothes, got out of bed, and went straight to the front yard, staring at the tightly closed gate.

Sure enough, a series of rapid and forceful knocks came from the front door.

Butler Zhou turned to look at Wang Siniang and called out to the door, "Who is it in the middle of the night? Coming, coming, stop knocking!"

"Mother! Mother! Open the door quickly!" Sanlang shouted in a shrill voice.

"It's the young master! The young master is back!" Butler Zhou was overjoyed and quickly went to open the door.

Jiang Shan and Sanlang walked in one after the other and went straight inside.

"Sister Wang, where is my mother? How is she?" Jiang Shan asked as he walked inside.

Saburo couldn't wait any longer and took off running inside.

"Your mother... Hey, Sanlang, wait!"

The commotion in the courtyard was quite loud, waking up the servants and bringing over the guards and servants that Fu Qiyuan had brought with him.

When Sanlang reached the main courtyard, he bumped into Fu Shu, who was coming from the corridor. One was running fast, and the other was walking fast, so neither of them could stop, and the force of the impact sent them tumbling into a heap.
