Chapter 226 Growing Pains

Jiang Huai's background is a thorn in her heart. Although everyone around her accepts that Fu Qiyuan is Jiang Huai's father, she cannot take it for granted that Fu Qiyuan will bear all of Jiang Huai's burdens.

This is unfair to Fu Qiyuan!

If Jiang Huai's true identity were ever revealed, it wouldn't just be her and Jiang Huai who would be hurt, but also Fu Qiyuan, her adoptive father.

She was grateful to Fu Qiyuan for thinking of her and her son, but she wanted to rely on her own strength to protect herself and Jiang Huai from being bullied!

She also wanted to protect Fu Qiyuan's reputation, and the best way to do that was to become stronger and become someone that noble and aristocratic women could not afford to associate with!

She wanted to make lots and lots of money, enhance her reputation, and make the Jiang family's name resound throughout Daqing!

"I was just joking with you! You go and do your thing, make sure you earn everything you're owed, and I also need to prepare a generous dowry for myself, so that no one will look down on me!"

Jiang Shan finally stopped what she was doing, turned around and hugged Fu Qiyuan, giving him a light peck on the lips.

"Daddy! Mommy! What are you doing! Huai'er wants a kiss too!" Jiang Shan felt a weight on her leg and looked down to see Jiang Huai excitedly climbing up her leg.

Fu Qiyuan quickly picked him up, frowning as he lifted him up a bit, "You've gotten heavier again! Where did all that weight go?"

Jiang Huai smiled, his eyes crinkling into crescent moons. He hugged Jiang Shan's neck and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, then kissed Fu Qiyuan before bringing his own face close to hers.

The two of them had no choice but to return the kiss on his cheek.

"You little pervert!" Jiang Shan muttered under his breath.

Fu Qiyuan took two steps back while holding his son, preventing him from causing trouble.

"What are you doing here again? Your mother is busy!"

Jiang Huai tilted his head and asked his father, "Father, are you going to a very, very far place?"

Fu Qiyuan frowned. "Who told you that? Father isn't going."

Jiang Huai opened her big, dark eyes and pouted, asking, "Father said that Grandpa is going, Grandma is going, and Mother and Huai'er are going too!"

Fu Qiyuan glanced at Jiang Shan, then gently tapped Jiang Huai's little nose and said, "Dad won't go now. Grandpa, Grandma, and Uncle will go first. In a few days, your mother will also take Huai'er to see Grandpa, Grandma, and Uncle."

Jiang Huai blinked his big eyes and said, "Let's go together!"

He has a particularly thorough understanding of the word "together".

His uncles would often hoist him onto their shoulders, shouting "Let's go together!" and they would all swarm off.

"Together" means leaving no one out.

Fu Qiyuan instinctively felt that this farewell might bring Jiang Huai some bad experiences.

As expected, when the day of parting arrived, Jiang Huai carried a small bag containing his favorite toys and comic books, and happily climbed onto the carriage while holding Grand Tutor Cheng's hand.

As soon as Jiao's mother saw Jiang Huai, she hugged him tightly and couldn't bear to let go.

Fu Qiyuan, feeling a headache coming on, stepped forward to lift Jiang Huai down.

Last time, they tried to fool Jiang Huai for a while to get by, but the father and son didn't reach a conclusion and it ended inconclusively. Now they finally have to face it.

"Huai'er, come down first," Fu Qiyuan coaxed gently.

Jiang Huai grinned and waved frantically at Jiang Shan not far away, "Mom, come quick, let's go together!"

Jiang Shan didn't step forward; instead, she took two steps back and said seriously, "Jiang Huai, if your mother doesn't leave, and neither do your father, are you going to abandon us?"

The smile on Jiang Huai's face slowly faded. He scooted forward and clung to the car door to look outside.

It was clear that his father and mother had no intention of getting on the carriage with him.

Although somewhat reluctant, she still reached out her hand to Fu Qiyuan and was helped off the carriage.

There were so many words of farewell, and Jiang Huai's familiar faces, sitting in several carriages, were all waving goodbye to him while crying.

"Uncle... Uncle...!" Jiang Huai called softly, his bright black eyes watching the carriage get further and further away from him.

"Shan'er, take good care of Huai'er!" Jiao's mother cried as she poked her head out and waved vigorously at them.

"Grandmother... Father, Grandmother..." Jiang Huai murmured, stretching out his little hand and leaning forward with all his might.

Jiang Shan took Jiang Huai from Fu Qiyuan, put him on the ground, met his gaze and said, "Huai'er, separation is inevitable between people!"

"When you grow up, you will leave your mother and travel far and wide. You will have your own friends. When you are as old as your father, you will have a girl you like and have your own children. At that time, you will also leave your mother's side and live with them!"

“You need to learn to make choices and adapt to separation. You can go to see your grandfather and maternal grandmother now, but you will be separated from your parents for a while. Think it through yourself and decide whether you want to go to them.”

Jiang Huai fell silent, clutching Jiang Shan's clothes tightly, his gaze fixed on the departing carriage, his lips pursed in silent disapproval.

He's still young and doesn't know the pain of parting, but he knows that he likes being with people who are about to leave him!

"Grandpa...Grandma...Uncle...Don't want Huai'er anymore!" Jiang Huai pouted sadly, turned around and hugged Jiang Shan's leg.

Jiang Shan bent down and hugged her son, saying softly, "They didn't abandon you. We'll be able to go to the capital soon to see Grandpa and Grandma, as well as Uncle and the others. We'll only be separated for a very short time. Once Huai'er grows as tall as Grandpa's desk, we'll go find them!"

Jiang Huai blinked his teary eyes and asked pitifully, "Really?"

Jiang Shan smiled even more gently, "My Huai'er is such a good boy, how could I bear to lie to you! It's almost time, Huai'er will soon be able to see Grandpa and Grandma!"

Jiang Huai believed it without a doubt. He wiped the tears from his face, turned his head and silently looked in the direction the carriage had gone. A deep look appeared on the little boy's face that was not in line with his age.

But he didn't expect that the separation that would truly break his heart was yet to come. That parting not only wounded his young heart, but also left an indelible pain in Jiangshan's heart.

For several days in a row, Jiang Huai was no longer as lively and cheerful as before. He often ran to Grand Tutor Cheng's room, peering into the room from the doorway. Sometimes, when he came back from outside, he would rush to the door and shout "Wang-Wang!" After realizing what had happened, he felt a deep sense of loss and sadness.

Sometimes I even call out "Weng Weng" in my dreams.

Jiang Shan was heartbroken.

The old patriarch Fu saw this and was very anxious.

He also wanted to learn from Grand Tutor Cheng and read and write with his beloved great-grandson, but he didn't have the artistic talent and couldn't force it!

Fu Qiyuan and Jiang Shan paid special attention to Jiang Huai's emotional changes and tried various ways to cheer her up. Fu Qiyuan even put another bed in Jiang Shan's room and stayed there that night.

Jianghuai gradually regained his former bright smile.
