Jiao's mother and the others panicked, only to see Fu Qichen carrying up a "wild man" covered in black.
The accompanying guards each carried a bag full of wild mushrooms.
Fu Qiyuan asked, "Why did it take you so long?"
Fu Qichen threw the brat Gu Yuchun hard to the ground and roared, "This fatso would rather die there than not find a basket of wild mushrooms, but he tripped and broke his leg!"
Gu Yuchun endured the pain and got up, his face pale, and said, "Sanlang, I... I picked some mushrooms, they're all over there, they should... should be enough for Princess Jiang to eat, right?"
Sanlang fell silent, Jiangshan remained silent, and even Jiao's mother was speechless.
Who would have thought this brat was actually a ruthless person!
After a long silence, Fu Qiyuan broke the silence by saying, "Take him down to see a doctor first, and then hire someone from the village to take care of him."
Gu Yuchun dared to challenge Sanlang, but he would never dare to utter a word in front of Fu Qiyuan.
He glanced timidly at Fu Qiyuan, puffed out his cheeks, and finally lowered his head in dejection.
The group then descended the mountain with peace of mind.
In the temporary post station set up in Guyang Town, Fu Qichen and his guards personally guarded the place, refusing any visits to Jiangshan and Fu Qiyuan.
The wind was a bit strong in the morning. Fu Qichen wasn't wearing armor, only a thin robe, which looked particularly frail in the wind.
Jiao's mother came out from inside, carrying a gray mink cloak, and walked directly to the steps behind Fu Qichen to put the cloak on him.
Fu Qichen suddenly turned around and met Jiao's mother's gentle gaze.
"Madam..." Fu Qichen called softly, his fingers gently stroking the soft, warm fur of the grey mink, his face somewhat stiff.
"Call me Aunt Mei! This is a cloak I made for you on the way here. It was made to fit your brother's size, and it fits quite well. It's windy outside, so don't catch a cold. There's some hot soup simmering on the stove, remember to drink it."
Fu Qichen's throat tightened, and he could only utter four words, "Thank you... Aunt Mei."
The craftsmen invited by Fu Qiyuan arrived one after another. After each accepting their tasks, they went to the back mountain to prepare for construction.
Jiang Shan prepared a generous gift and, together with Fu Qiyuan, took Jiang Huai to Manager Yan's shop.
Manager Yan wasn't at the shop; he was at home taking care of his grandmother.
Under Manager Yan's meticulous care, Old Mrs. Yan survived another cold winter, but her spirits were not very good and she had little appetite.
When Jiang Shan came in, Manager Yan was coaxing the old lady to feed her.
The old lady turned her head away, pursed her lips, and refused to eat; she had a terrible temper.
Despite the freezing weather, Manager Yan broke out in a sweat from anxiety.
"Grandma, what would you like to eat? How about this, you have a bowl of soup first, and your grandson will go to Jiang's Private Kitchen to pack you some sticky rice cakes that you like!"
Grandma Yan turned her face slightly, revealing a large hole in her toothless mouth as she chuckled.
Jiang Shan chuckled. "No need for all that trouble. I'm here. Just tell me what you'd like to eat, Grandma!"
Manager Yan stood up in surprise, turned around and bowed deeply.
Jiang Shan helped him up and laughed, "You're so old, aren't you afraid of breaking these old bones! You're an elder, and also Huai'er's savior, so you should accept Huai'er's bow first!"
As they spoke, Jiang Huai had already stood up, crossed his arms, and bowed deeply, saying, "Huai'er thanks Grandpa Yan for saving my life!"
Manager Yan hurriedly helped Jiang Huai up, bent down and squinted to examine the little boy in front of him closely, nodding repeatedly: "In the blink of an eye, they've grown so big! Ancestor, take a look, do you still recognize these two children?"
Grandma Yan had been staring intently at Jiang Shan ever since she entered, and now that she saw Jiang Huai, she couldn't take her eyes off her. Pointing at Jiang Huai, she chuckled and said, "Little rascal! Jiang girl!"
Jiang Huai opened her big, round eyes wide and patted her chest, shouting, "Grandmother, I am Huai'er! Not Jiang Yatou! Jiang Yatou is my mother!"
As he spoke, he pulled his mother over, and the two heads, one big and one small, came close to Old Mrs. Yan, so that she could understand.
Grandma Yan grinned, looking left and right, touching this and pinching that, her smile never closing.
Jiang Shan had Fu Qiyuan open the food box he had brought, took out a steaming hot sticky rice cake, waved it in front of Old Madam Yan, and asked triumphantly, "Do you recognize it now?"
Grandma Yan drooled directly from her toothless mouth as she chuckled, "Jiang girl! Bean bun! Jiang girl, bean bun!"
Jiang Shan placed the sticky rice cake in Grandma Yan's hand and said seriously, "You can only eat one. Eating too many will cause indigestion! You can drink half a bowl of tofu pudding at most, but no more!"
Grandma Yan finally understood and nodded vigorously.
Finally, she's eating!
Manager Yan finally breathed a sigh of relief after being on edge for so long.
He wiped the sweat from his brow and exclaimed, "Thanks to you all! I really didn't know what to do! Our ancestors haven't eaten properly for days, I was so worried... Luckily, you were here!"
Jiang Shan pulled Fu Qiyuan to sit down beside him, and his eyes softened considerably as he watched Jiang Huai and Old Madam Yan eat together.
"It seems you didn't take what I said seriously. The shop assistants said you stopped letting them deliver food after that. You don't take me seriously at all!"
The tone of voice and the look in their eyes are incomparable!
Manager Yan smiled bitterly and said, "Princess... Jiang girl, I'm not as great as you think, and I haven't done as much favor for you and Huai'er as you claim. I understand your intentions, but our matriarch is already so old. No matter how deep her blessings are, they're not enough for you to hire someone to serve her meals all year round!"
