Chapter 69: A Little Tempted

Jiao Sanlang, far away in Chongqing, gripped a spatula that seemed disproportionate to his height with both hands, sweating profusely as he prepared braised chicken for his teacher.

Stone, standing nearby, kept yelling anxiously, "Flip it quickly! It's burning! The pancakes are going to burn!"

Saburo wiped his sweat, and after scooping up a piece of pancake, he stopped moving.

His gaze was fixed on the tall figure outside the window who was smiling at him.

"Brother Yuan!" Sanlang jumped up on the spot, threw down the spatula, and rushed out like an arrow.

Fu Wen picked up Sanlang in one scoop and laughed heartily, "You've gotten heavier, and taller too!"

Sanlang hugged Fu Wen's arm and chuckled, "Both Brother Shitou and I have grown taller, but Brother Shitou has grown even faster than me!"

Fu Wen nodded with satisfaction, put Sanlang down, and led him towards the bamboo hut, where Mr. Xunmei was already waiting.

"Your sister gave birth to a boy, so you're an uncle now!"

"Really! That's great! I'm an uncle now! Teacher, my sister gave birth, I'm an uncle now, hahaha!" Sanlang jumped three feet high with joy and shouted at the top of his lungs into the bamboo hut.

Fu Wen felt a little uneasy. He had come on the young master's orders to handle some business and visit Sanlang, but he couldn't tell the child what had happened at home, so he could only tell him the good things.

Mr. Xunmei came out to greet him, stroking his beard and laughing as he scolded, "You little rascal, have you forgotten what your teacher taught you: don't let your emotions show?"

Sanlang didn't care at all; he was overjoyed. He had been promoted to uncle, which was a tremendous joy, and no one could stop him from being happy!

Fu Wen clasped his hands in greeting and sat down with Sanlang on either side of Mr. Xunmei.

"Sir, you look quite well. It seems that Sanlang has done a great job." Fu Wen's words made Mr. Xunmei laugh heartily.

Indeed, this kid has been here for less than half a year, and his true nature has gradually emerged. He has become more and more unruly, sometimes making him laugh heartily, and sometimes making him so angry that he chases him all over the yard with a bamboo stick. He feels that his mood is getting better and better, and he is getting younger and younger.

Saburo laughed along and poured tea for the two of them in a very professional manner.

"How are the elders in your family? Have you named your child yet?" Mr. Xunmei asked with a smile.

Saburo's eyes lit up, and he rubbed his little hands together eagerly. He had racked his brains to come up with a few names.

Fu Wen's expression was somewhat stiff, and he stopped drinking tea, his hand unconsciously clenching into a fist.

Mr. Xunmei immediately noticed the problem. He glanced at Sanlang's expectant look and said in a serious tone, "The child's mind is not yet stable, so it is better not to name him too early. You can call him by his nickname first."

Fu Wen nodded in realization, "Yes, yes, when I left, the master hadn't named the child yet, Sanlang, please put in more effort."

Sanlang said with a beaming smile, "I'm all ready, Brother Yuan, please give this to my sister for me!"

After saying that, he stood up and ran outside in a flash.

Under Mr. Xunmei's gaze, Fu Wen said bitterly, "Some things happened at home. The boss was weakened after childbirth and was still unconscious when I left. The family shop was also burned down, and Uncle Qiao was seriously injured. I came to Yuzhou to find out some things."

Mr. Xunmei's expression turned serious. After thinking for a moment, he asked very seriously, "I still have some connections in the capital. Perhaps...?"

Fu Wen waved his hand, interrupting Mr. Xunmei, "I appreciate your kindness, sir, on behalf of my master and Sanlang. I have already made progress on this matter, so please rest assured."

Mr. Xunmei was a recluse by nature, and he wouldn't have bothered with this matter if it weren't for Sanlang. He could tell that Fu Wen was no ordinary shop assistant, and he figured that Sanlang's sister might have her own destiny.

"This matter must be kept from Sanlang. Please take good care of it, sir!"

Fu Wen arrived suddenly and left in a hurry, without even having a meal with Sanlang.

Sanlang watched Fu Wen walk away with great melancholy, then sighed like a little adult and said, "I don't know when I'll see Brother Yuan again. I wonder if Brother Yuan will bring my sister and baby to see me next time!"

"Stop talking like a child!" Stone tapped his head. "The baby is so small, how can you bear to see them suffer through such a bumpy and tiring journey? Let's go, it's time to prepare dinner!"

Fu Wen's trip to Yuzhou was just an exciting little episode for Sanlang, but it was Jiangshan's greatest hope. However, Jiangshan did not know where Yuan Wen had gone. He only found out that Yuan Wen was actually Fu Wen after asking Fu Qiyuan.

Jiang Shan knew perfectly well why Fu Qiyuan was doing all this, but given the nature of their relationship, she needed to carefully consider the situation. Although she was somewhat tempted, she wouldn't overstep her bounds.

"What else don't I know? Just tell me everything. I don't like too many surprises," Jiang Shan said to Fu Qiyuan, tilting his head.

Fu Qiyuan's throat tightened. He had done many things, but he couldn't let her know, at least not now.

"Is it difficult? Then forget it." Jiang Shan wasn't an unreasonable person. Even lovers have the right to maintain a certain degree of mystery, especially since their relationship was still far from settled.

Fu Qiyuan smiled. "It's not that I'm making things difficult, it's just not the right time yet. Anyway, please believe me, I will never do anything to betray you and the child again."

Jiang Shan raised an eyebrow and said, "Do you know that what you said could easily lead people to misunderstand? Fine, I'm magnanimous. Your servant Fu Zhi is indeed becoming increasingly unlikable, but he saved me, so I'm too lazy to hold it against him. We're even!"

Fu Qiyuan was well aware of the grudges between Jiang Shan and Fu Zhi. He shook his head with a wry smile and said, "Fu Zhi will not appear in front of you again. If you have any questions, you can ask Fu Shu to handle them. He will listen to you."

Jiang Shan strangely understood the deeper meaning behind Fu Qiyuan's words. Fu Zhi was not very obedient to his master Fu Qiyuan, but Fu Shu was. In other words, Fu Zhi was not someone Fu Qiyuan could truly trust, but Fu Shu was.

Thinking of the various palace intrigues, domestic power struggles, and political battles depicted in TV dramas, and considering the high-ranking family background of the person in front of him, Jiang Shan instantly conjured up several bloody scenes in his mind.

She leaned closer to Fu Qiyuan, gestured with her chin toward the servant sweeping the floor not far away, and asked mysteriously, "Could there be a spy sent by your parents in our family?"

Fu Qiyuan looked at the woman in front of him, her eyes sparkling with a bright light. She was intelligent, yet possessed an innocent and pure beauty, and also revealed a cunning like a little fox. He truly loved her just the way she was.

He couldn't help but gently pinch her nose, saying affectionately, "I personally selected each of them, and I checked their ancestors for eight generations. Don't worry, okay?"

The single word "hmm" lingered, like a tiny hook tickling Jiang Shan's heart.

Her face flushed, and she turned and walked into the house as if nothing had happened, muttering under her breath, "That's hard to say. Your parents aren't so open-minded as to happily agree to you dating a woman who's pregnant out of wedlock!"

Fu Qiyuan roughly understood Jiang Shan's implied meaning, and he pretended not to hear and followed.
