Jianghuai Side Story 5

Hu Lie, the general of Nan Chen Kingdom, thought that the general sent by Da Qing Kingdom was only eighteen years old and hadn't even grown up yet. Even if he was Jiao Xian's nephew, he couldn't possibly be as monstrous as Jiao Xian. He was not afraid of him at all!

Three months have passed, and to his utter surprise, the uncle and nephew are completely different in their ways. The methods he used to deal with Jiao Xian are completely ineffective against this kid!

Jiao Xian was a rare genius, skilled in both literature and military strategy. His military tactics were incredibly ingenious, both cunning and treacherous, with one scheme after another that was impossible to guard against!

But Fu Jianghuai used a blatant, overt scheme! He tells you that there is a large formation ahead, with traps and secret passages, just blatantly provoking you, making you willingly jump into his trap and never be able to climb out!

This kid is even worse than his uncle!

Various mechanical devices and bizarre formations can trap people to death!

What's even more infuriating is that his soldiers feast on meat and fish every day, and even the prisoners he captured from Nanchen Kingdom eat and drink much better than the soldiers from Nanchen!

Before the battles had even been fought many times, Nan Chen's morale had already been halved!

Hu Lie was furious!

This time, he gave a death order: seize the grain supplies sent by Daqing at all costs!

Only with sufficient supplies can we stabilize the demoralized army, wage a protracted war against Daqing, and retake what we have lost!

Daqing only had two hundred people transporting grain, while Nanchen mobilized a thousand men, who had already laid an ambush along the way.

The wagons carrying provisions finally revealed themselves at dawn.

Each cart had deep ruts, and inside were not only grain and fodder, but also meat, vegetables, and fragrant and sweet fruits that were rare in the border region.

For those fighting on the frontier, this is the greatest wealth!

At a command, the Nan Chen soldiers, hidden in the shadows, swarmed forward and launched a three-pronged attack.

The only way out was the river next to them; retreating into the river would be tantamount to cutting off their own escape route!

Daqing's troops not only retreated to the river, but also hauled cartloads of grain and fodder into the river.

At least 30% of the food supplies will be wasted if they get into the water!

My heart aches for you!

A series of rousing battle cries echoed across the land, drowning out the sound of the rushing river flowing from upstream.

Daqing's troops and supplies were forced into the river, with nowhere left to retreat.

Nan Chenbing laughed wildly as he slowly approached, waiting to reap the rewards before him.

Suddenly, someone in the Daqing army shouted, "Ready—move in!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the Daqing soldiers swarmed toward a small eddy in the middle of the river.

The vortex grew larger and larger, and Nan Chenbing watched helplessly as a circular iron fence extended from the vortex, tightly surrounding the Daqing soldiers and slowly raising them to a height of one person.

"Hahahaha, isn't this just courting death?" Several Nan Chen soldiers burst into laughter.

Others echoed this sentiment.

A faint rumbling sound came from afar, initially not loud, and was drowned out by Nan Chenbing's laughter.

But gradually, the smiles on their faces faded.

What was that sound?

"Oh no, it's a flash flood! Retreat! Retreat now!"

Realizing what had happened, Nan Chenbing, like a frightened little beast, turned and ran in a panic.

In just a few breaths, the torrent roared down, scattering Nan Chenbing to pieces as he was swept away, howling in pain.

Daqingbing stood on high ground, watching Nanchenbing being swept away by the flood like a broken doll, and couldn't help but burst into laughter.

In less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, this "natural disaster" was over.

Of the more than a thousand Nanchen soldiers, only a few remained. Some were floating on the river, some were washed ashore and their fates were unknown, some lay half-dead in the mud groaning, and the rest were nowhere to be found.

The iron bars were slowly lowered, and the Daqing soldiers cheered as they rushed towards the Nanchen soldiers, binding all the breathing ones into dumplings and taking them away.

Hu Lie waited in the main tent for three whole days before the news finally came back.

"What? The entire army wiped out? That's impossible! A thousand men against two hundred, how could not a single one return!"

The scout clasped his hands in a bitter gesture and said, "General, that brat Fu set up traps in the river and set up an array upstream, which triggered a flash flood. Our men were unprepared and were all swept away by the flood. Those who survived were taken prisoner!"

Hu Lie slammed his fist heavily on the table, his eyes red with hatred, and said, "That brat Fu, how hateful!"

The joyful songs and laughter at the Daqing military camp continued into the night.

The bonfire illuminated the smiling faces of the soldiers from Daqing. Holding roasted meat in their hands, they sang and danced around the bonfire, creating an atmosphere even more joyful than during the Spring Festival.

Jiang Huai swallowed a mouthful of strong liquor, his brows furrowing instantly.

"What kind of wine is this? Why does it taste so awful? It wasn't brewed by my mother!"

The guard chuckled and said, "General, the lady only sent ten jars of wine. I secretly hid them! If they find out, you won't get a single drop!"

Jiang Huai clicked his tongue, handed the unfinished wine in his hand to the guard, and sighed, "The street dance that swept the capital was actually turned into a folk dance by a bunch of soldiers, tsk tsk... Uncle is still the best, he's a legend wherever he goes!"

The guards were so amused by Jiang Huai's words that they almost choked with laughter.

"Go and call my master and a few uncles from Qingcheng Mountain to the kitchen, and send them two jars of good wine over. We'll sneak a few drinks!"

This means they're going to give us special treatment.

The guards understood immediately.

After several rounds of drinks, accompanied by the sound of bugles, a cry of "Enemy attack!" echoed throughout the Daqing military camp.

Hu Lie himself did not expect that he would be so impatient and launch a retaliation against the enemy overnight without careful planning and deployment.

He was gambling that the Daqing army wouldn't react so quickly.
