Five Elements/7
Ye Xuanling's expression tightened and she put away all the things in the secret compartment.
She turned her head and looked back. There was light ahead, which meant the exit was not far away. It might even be near the ruined temple. Then, in the opposite direction... Ye Xuanling paused and said, "Ji Yan, let's go this way."
She pointed in the direction they had just come from: "Let's try this direction, who knows where it might lead."
She thought of the corpses in the temple and its connection with Nuo masks. What was the reason?
A group of Nuo masked people were brutally murdered. The government and ordinary people would not do such a thing.
Either this group of Nuo masked figures are rebels in the organization, or there is a third-party organization that is against these Nuo masked figures.
The two walked forward side by side. It was too dark here and they couldn't see clearly. Otherwise, she would have wanted to see what was written on the parchment, or what secrets were hidden in it.
How many people are hidden in this vortex? How many lives are at stake?
She had told herself countless times to calm down, but when she finally calmed down, she didn't have the energy to take herself very far. She closed her eyes briefly, the sound of water gurgling in her ears.
"Don't worry, at least I still have some power in my hands, so these things won't be left unsolved." Ji Yan smiled sadly, "I will work with you on this matter."
There was a moment of surprise on her face, but the words turned into a question as soon as they came out of her mouth: "How do you know what I'm thinking?" The words were so cold, just like ice water flowing slowly through the body.
She felt the water entering her body and changed the subject: "Thank you."
"If you really want to thank me, then let down your guard against me." Ji Yan said lightly, with a smile in his eyes, "Really."
The clothes on her body were warm and smelled like dried orchids in the summer, so soft on her face. The word "calm" should have been so difficult for her to write.
But now, it seemed that what was pushing her to search, pushing her forward, forced her to become like this. She still remembered the peaceful and tranquil, yet lively days she and her master had spent in Anping County.
It seems like I can never go back.
She wished it was just a dream, and when she woke up, she would go back to help others heal their illnesses and assist her master, instead of being in a strange place like now, searching for the truth about a strange death sacrifice.
It wasn't that she didn't want to, but she was unwilling to accept everyone's departure. If God had eyes, she would just treat it as a nightmare, a nightmare that she would wake up from.
"Okay." She accepted it. Regardless of whether he had murderous intentions towards her or not, from now on, he and she were on the same side. "If the culprit is finally found in the Anping case, I will do my best to help you." Help you prolong your life, so that you can live a little longer in this world.
She has always followed the rules. If you help me, I will do my best to repay you.
The road seemed endless, and the two of them had been walking for who knows how long. The further they walked, the wetter the ground became. Ye Xuanling could feel her shoes and socks getting partially soaked.
About half an hour later, a bright light began to appear ahead, but it wasn't very clear, as if it were obscured by branches and leaves. Only when Ye Xuanling walked forward could she see clearly that it was a cave entrance.
It's very small, no more than two feet.
"Can you get out?" Ye Xuanling asked, "How about I go out and explore the way first?"
"It should be possible."
She grabbed the branch next to her and climbed out, rubbing the mud on her hands on the branch. She didn't care about the mud on her body. Ye Xuanling stood up and reached out to pull him.
Ji Yanren is tall and thin, but he is a man after all, not to mention a Jinyiwei. It is really embarrassing for him to come out with broad shoulders and thin waist.
He stood up and clapped his hands: "Don't laugh at me." His tone was relaxed and he didn't mean to force her.
"Don't worry, it won't happen." She said to him seriously. Turning around, Ye Xuanling felt that this place looked familiar. "Have we walked this far?"
The scene before him looked very much like the outskirts of the city, where the Zhang family lived. There was indeed a river not far ahead. This underground river ran from Linxi to the outskirts of the city, passing through Dianhai City on the way.
The sky brightened and the haze dissipated.
Groundwater will enter every household.
Just as she was thinking about it, Ye Xuanling was about to take out the few things she had just picked up to check.
Suddenly, the birds in the forest were startled and flew away, making melodious cries.
Ji Yan and Ye Xuanling looked at each other, their bodies tensed and they became alert.
Just as they expected, a sharp arrow flew from the front left. Ye Xuanling was quick-eyed and quick-handed. She grabbed the branch next to her and used the force to move to the side to avoid it.
Ji Yan's expression remained unchanged. With extremely fast movements, he drew his sword and slashed at it. Not far away, a group of figures appeared, dressed in black clothes and wearing face cloths.
Just one glance and Ye Xuanling was frightened. They didn't say much nonsense, but just slashed at them with swords.
The two of them didn't say much, just nodded to each other, and then Ye Xuanling hid a little to the back. She couldn't get too far away from Ji Yan, if these people caught up with her, her life would be in danger.
Ji Yan was very agile and his sword moves were cunning.
She had seen his skills before, at a mass grave, where she witnessed him kill a man of the same rank.
The men in black rushed forward in a swarm, as if they were here specifically to take their lives.
Ji Yan spun with his Cloud Steps, flipped his hand, and thrust his sword. Within a few rounds, the sword was stained with blood. The man in black clothes who was rushing in the front fell down.
But it seems that these people are not afraid of death and have not retreated at all.
Hiding aside, the man holding the bow and arrow seemed to have found his target. He decided to kill the woman first, which would also save a life. While thinking, he had already taken three arrows and put them on the bow. His movements were very fast, and the tip of the sword was different from before.
Ye Xuanling hated herself for not knowing martial arts, so she had to hide behind others when they were chasing her.
Several sharp arrows flew towards the target!
Birds chirped in the mountains, and the sound of swords clashing lingered in my ears.
"Ji Yan, get out of the way!" she shouted, nimbly dodging to the side, and she seemed to see the person next to her move an inch in her direction.
He raised his sword and swung at the arrows, but seemed not to notice that there were three arrows. He only deflected two, and the other one hit his leg joint squarely.
Ye Xuanling almost screamed out, but she suppressed it because his face didn't look very good.
Ji Yan quickly dispatched the black-robed man wielding the sword. As for the bowman, Ji Yan didn't intend to kill him. Instead, he grabbed him by the collar, his eyes sharp and intimidating, his brows furrowed in a frown. "Who sent you?"
"How about I pull out your tendons and cut your neck for you?!" His voice was sharp, and it was completely a roar, which was completely different from his usual youthful heroism. He was not rebellious and unruly, but wanton and crazy, with a bit of brutality and ferocity.
"Killing people is complicated. Since you are the last one, I will turn you into a human pig."
The man did not answer him. He turned his head, clenched his teeth, and dug his teeth into the tip of his tongue. Without any hesitation, sweet and fishy blood soon oozed from the corners of his mouth, leaving only a pair of black eyes wide open.
Ji Yan narrowed his eyes, pinched his neck hard and threw him aside.
"Ji Yan, you are injured." To be honest, Ye Xuanling was indeed stunned by his appearance just now, but the injury is more serious now.
"Yeah, it hurts." His voice softened. He sat down on the ground with his head lowered. The strands of hair on his forehead brushed against his eyebrows. "Won't you come and help me?"
"Oh, okay." Ye Xuanling walked towards him. The entire arrow was covered in medicinal powder. "I'll carry you back to the inn."
Bright red blood oozed from her leg, and she couldn't pull out the arrow yet, otherwise the blood would just keep flowing. She didn't have a medical kit with her, and didn't have any tools or medicines at all.
Ye Xuanling squatted down: "Come up." As she said that, she didn't see his body pressing up.
After a while, she finally moved. She stood up tremblingly, and every step she took was very difficult. At this moment, Ji Yan said, "Actually, you can help me walk."
Ye Xuanling: "You'd better not move now, otherwise if this arrow is poisoned with some deadly poison, you will be dead in less than half an hour."
She was thin as a bee, and it was too hard for her to carry this man. She remembered that she had dragged him back the last time she found him at the mass grave, but he was still conscious, and it would be a bit disrespectful to do the same this time.
Sanqi hadn't returned to the inn yet, and the room was empty. Ye Xuanling rummaged around on the table, tossed something to him, and then turned to the medical kit.
"What's this?"
Ye Xuanling: "It will hurt a lot later. If you can't stand it, just bite it."
"oh."
When Ye Xuanling took back the medical kit, she found that his eyes were always on her. After meeting his gaze, his eyes tightened for a moment.
At that moment, Ye Xuanling felt that this person seemed to be afraid of pain, but he was unwilling to bite the dark green bamboo joint.
She felt like he wanted to bite her.
She was frightened by her own idea, and the tips of her ears unconsciously turned pink. She pursed her lips and walked to his side: "Do you have any idea about that group of people?"
Ye Xuanling: "About their identities."
Ji Yan shook his head lightly: "No."
After treating the wound, Ye Xuanling breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, it was not some precious poison, otherwise she would not even be able to prepare the medicine.
Ye Xuanling fished out a few items from her lapel, now having time to examine them. They contained a copy of the Five Elements Poison Scripture, a packet of brown powder, and a bag of white alkali.
This bag of brown powder is made of Shisi grass. The whole thing is enough to prove that this case is basically the same as what Ji Yan said.
And this piece of parchment is a blueprint of the "Three Water Chain Array"!
Ye Xuanling rummaged through the inspection documents and compared the items she found in the secret compartment of the shrine one by one. After observing them for a while, she stroked the white porcelain medicine jar with fine lines on its texture with her fingers.
When Sanqi came back, there was still a lingering blush on the tips of her ears and the corners of her eyes, but Ji Yan was no longer here.
