Ulcers/7【Repair】
Morning light streamed in through the window, illuminating the wooden bed frame. A beam of sunlight shone onto Ye Xuanling's eyelids, and she unconsciously raised her hand to block it. Her eyes felt like they were covered in glue, unable to open. She squinted and glanced out the window. She had no idea where she was; it looked like just a room in an inn.
She had changed into a new dress made of lotus root powder gauze embroidered with peach blossom patterns, and a long coat hung beside the bed. She pressed her eyebrows, trying to relax her eyes and make her vision clearer.
She propped herself up, lifted the heavy quilt from her body, and lay in bed in silence for a moment before getting out.
The window on the right lets you see the top floor of the building outside, a dazzling display of elegant buildings and painted pavilions. The weather has changed rapidly. A few days ago, I could still endure wearing thin clothes, but now, just stepping out of the quilt makes me feel cold, penetrating deep into my bones.
She quickly put on the long coat to keep warm.
What exactly happened yesterday? She went up the mountain to collect herbs, saw a lake, and felt both hot and cold. Then she seemed to have no memory of anything. Oh, where are the herbs?
She looked around and didn't see the backpack.
…
It's over.
She walked to the door, not knowing where she was going.
She didn't know what to do. She knew she had to go to Dongdao Mountain again to collect herbs. She hung her head and sighed. She had clearly told her master that it would take at most two days, but it was already the third day and she didn't know what the situation in the county was like.
She pushed the door open anxiously and bumped into someone at this moment.
It’s Liu Wen.
Liu Wen urged him to be careful, and two pieces of pastry in his hand fell onto the wooden plate as he shook his body.
Ye Xuanling took two steps back and apologized quickly: "Brother Liu, are you still there?"
Liu Wen sighed, "What are you talking about? I'm not dead."
"No, no." She waved her hand, "I mean, why haven't you left yet?"
Liu Wen changed into a black, coarse cloth long coat, his face beaming with smiles. "Hey, where can I go? We agreed to go up the mountain together. You're so weak, how could you faint?"
"Last night, Ji Yan found you fainted and was so worried." Liu Wen put the tray on the table, pulled out a chair and sat down, pounding his hands as he continued, "Tell me, how tired have you made me?"
Liu Wen pointed a finger at her and said, "How can I carry three or two baskets on my back alone?"
He demonstrated to her: "Look, I do it this way. I carry one on my chest and one on my back. It makes me very tired."
"Ji Yan is the same. He is holding you in his arms and carrying another on his back." Liu Wen shook his head.
"Wow, you guys are awesome." Ye Xuanling gave him two thumbs up in a nonchalant manner, but soon returned to her normal composure. "Well, thank you so much for bothering you guys. Thank you."
Liu Wen turned his head and waved his hand: "It's okay. We agreed to go up the mountain together. It's only natural to help each other."
Ye Xuanling really didn't expect that Liu Wen was also a decent and good person. Although he didn't look like one, she swore in her heart that she would never judge people by appearance again. It would not be good if she offended a good person.
No one came to the door again. Liu Wen drank his tea leisurely and said nothing to Ye Xuanling.
"You want to ask Ji Yan, right?" Liu Wen looked like he was watching a show.
"I didn't." She shouted out immediately as if under stress.
Liu Wen chuckled and beckoned her over to eat some cakes: "If you don't have any, then don't have any. Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Brother Liu, where did I get these clothes?"
Liu Wen: "Ji Yan bought it."
After bringing Ye Xuanling back home last night, Ji Yan stayed by her bedside. Liu Wen didn't dare to say anything more and didn't mention the matter.
"Oh." Ye Xuanling nodded, seeming to understand. "What about him?"
"Didn't you say you didn't ask him?" Liu Wen pouted.
"I just wanted to ask about my medicine." Ye Xuanling smiled symbolically. "When can we go back?"
"Wait a moment. Ji Yan went out to buy something and will be back soon. I've already put Snake Grass Ding in the carriage."
The inn's decorations looked expensive, and the extraordinary architecture visible from the outside must have been paid for by Ji Yan. Ye Xuanling sat next to Liu Wen and started talking again: "Brother Liu, is your business in the capital big?"
Liu Wen knew what she meant and didn't beat around the bush: "What's the matter? You want to work with me?"
"More friends mean more paths. Brother Liu is a friend of life and death." Ye Xuanling extended her hand towards him. "If this isn't considered a friend, it's abnormal."
Liu Wen explained the basics to her, explaining that the capital city was home to many wealthy families, and that health-promoting and beauty-enhancing foods and medicines were essential. This was especially true for the Jiang family, his largest employer. The Jiangs were also businessmen, and their wives were extravagant, often buying various supplements from him.
"How old is Mrs. Jiang?"
"Maybe he looks like you."
"About the same age as me?" Ye Xuanling asked in surprise, "You're already a wife at such a young age?"
"Who knows?" Liu Wen said, "When I first met her, I thought she was the young lady, but the head of the Jiang family is already in his forties and still has no children."
"Are there no other ladies?"
Liu Wen was silent for a moment, then subconsciously glanced around: "All the other wives are dead."
"Dead?" Ye Xuanling was dumbfounded, not daring to believe it. "This is too weird."
Hearing this, Ye Xuanling really didn't want to listen anymore. Wasn't this Jiang family patriarch a wife-killer? Liu Wen told Ye Xuanling that if she ever went to the capital to play, she must go to him to brag.
It was not easy for Liu Wen to talk to a girl, but Ye Xuanling really got along well with him. Although he was not often in the capital, he had a house. If he was not there, she would not have to spend money to stay in an inn, she could just rent his house directly.
Ye Xuanling said she was embarrassed, but she still agreed shamelessly. She must have suffered from hypothermia last night. Ye Xuanling hated herself for being so stupid that she didn't even notice this. But if she had noticed, she would still collect herbs first and then go down the mountain.
By the time Ji Yan returned to the inn, it was already noon and the rain had stopped. After lunch at the inn, Liu Wen waved his sleeves and bowed respectfully to the two men. He and his brothers were not on the same route as them; they were heading south to look for Shi Ze.
See you again someday, Lord Ji.
Ye Xuanling packed her bag and asked Ji Yan, "Are you leaving?"
"I'll go back to the county with you."
Ye Xuanling nodded. She didn't have any money at the moment anyway. She would return the money to him when she got back to Anping. "Well, thank you."
"Oh~" Ji Yan looked at her, his eyes moving away an inch, "How do you thank me?"
"Wow, Ji Yan, I'm not saying anything bad about you, but you value money like your life?" She patted his shoulder, reassuring him and comforting him, "I'll give you the money when we get back, don't worry."
Ji Yan threw her hand away: "Who wants your money?"
"Forget it. You're rich, you have money." Ye Xuanling walked out of the inn and walked in front of him. The cold wind blew her hair back. "Can you pay for the carriage?"
"I don't."
Upon hearing his response, Ye Xuanling turned around and stretched out a fist towards him: "Guess what I have in my hand?"
Ji Yan lowered his eyes, and his clean white wrist appeared in front of him first: "What?"
"Empty, which means I have no money left." She patted her chest and assured, "Don't worry, I will never return your money."
After thinking for a while, Ye Xuanling changed her tone and said, "No, I won't refuse to pay you back."
A silent smile appeared on Ji Yan's lips. He crossed his arms, holding a sword in his arms. His ponytail swayed behind him, creating a happy arc.
"What's wrong?" Ye Xuanling walked lightly towards him. "Are you in a good mood? So it seems you're willing to lend me money? Or do you want me to pay you back?"
"No." Ji Yan said firmly, "I can lend it to you, but you have to pay it back."
"Haha, you stingy guy, I saved you, and you haven't paid for my medical treatment yet!"
Ji Yan's smile never faded from the beginning until they reached the long street.
Dianhai Long Street was also the busiest place. Running west from the inn, it was bustling with activity. Stalls were everywhere, all hawking their wares to attract visitors. The crowds were thick and thronging. After wandering along the long street for a while, the two finally found a carriage and its driver at the western end.
Money was spent like water, and Ye Xuanling couldn't help feeling sad when she saw the money falling into other people's hands.
It wasn't her money though.
Ye Xuanling placed the snake grass clumps on the backpack. But after two backpacks, the carriage seemed a bit cramped. They both got in, and the carriage drove back to Anping County along Dianhai West Road.
Perhaps because they had already said everything they wanted to say, the two of them sat in silence for a long time without speaking again. Ye Xuanling felt a little bored sitting there, so she pulled open the carriage curtains and looked at the scenery outside.
It's already plum month, so I'm afraid it will snow in Anping County in a few days, right?
Will Master be completely healed after drinking that bowl of medicine? Ye Xuanling reached out to pluck leaves from the roadside, but unexpectedly, the branches, combined with the speed of the carriage, seemed quite sharp. A small scrape appeared on her slender wrist, but it wasn't a big deal to her.
The carriage swayed and swayed along the green grass for several hours. Ji Yan suddenly asked her, "Have you always lived in Anping County?"
Ye Xuanling didn't expect Ji Yan to ask this. She nodded and said "hmm" softly.
"Never been out?"
“Basically, none.”
"Is that so?" He sounded like he was talking to himself, not asking her.
"By the way, the first time we met was in Xishan. Why did you say you finally found me then?" She asked sincerely, her eyes full of the desire for his answer.
Ji Yan tilted his head to look at her, and Ye Xuanling didn't avoid his gaze. His eyes were always filled with unresolved emotions, and after a few seconds, he looked away. He was wearing a dark blue brocade gown with rippled patterns, and he looked pale and pale, without much color.
Only then did Ye Xuanling discover that he had a small mole on his temples, which was invisible unless one looked closely.
"You're wrong, aren't you?" he asked. "Thank you for the steamed buns back then."
"What's the big deal? It's just a steamed bun."
Ji Yan smiled faintly, and there was only one figure reflected in his gray pupils.
A journey of several hours was not too far. After chatting for a while, Ye Xuanling took a nap in the carriage. She always felt that it was due to the unfamiliar climate and her face and hands were always itchy.
