Chapter 139 Cell Phone

The younger brother glanced down at his phone, then looked up at him again: "Yes, boss, his name is Fu Yan."

Furious, Huang Mao kicked over the coffee table and grabbed a handful of his hair in frustration.

He glanced at the people sitting on the ground, staring blankly at him, and cursed with his hands on his hips: "A bunch of idiots, what are you still sitting there for? Waiting to die?"

The group of people realized what was happening and immediately sprang to their feet to gather their belongings.

The room was filthy and messy. A group of people packed up their things, picked up their tools, and headed out.

Before leaving, someone suggested to the blond-haired guy, "Boss, why don't we set this place on fire?"

The blond-haired man angrily slapped him on the back of the head: "Burn your mother, don't you think things have gotten bigger enough?"

He kicked his underling while cursing and turned to walk downstairs.

A group of people arrived in a great hurry, but took advantage of the dark night to leave with their tails between their legs.

Qiao Chen, accompanied by two bodyguards, walked into the alley and circled around for quite a while before finally finding the building where Xiao Xin lived.

He was just about to go upstairs when a group of people came downstairs cursing.

The night was too dark, and the motion-activated lights in the hallway flickered on and off.

A group of men, exuding an air of thuggery, passed by Qiao Chen with provocative eyes.

Through the dim light, Qiao Chen looked coldly at these menacing people, his heart unmoved.

After everyone had left, he led his bodyguards upstairs.

Huang Mao stood at the door, glancing at the three figures as they went upstairs, his unease growing stronger.

The subordinate leaned over: "What's wrong, boss?"

Yellow Hair's eyebrows furrowed: "Tell the brothers to get out of here right now!"

"yes."

When Qiao Chen reached the eighth floor, he couldn't help but frown upon smelling the pungent stench.

He made way for his two bodyguards, signaling them to go in first and scout ahead.

As soon as the two bodyguards entered, they saw Fu Yan lying in a pool of blood on their left and shouted, "President Qiao, he's here!"

Qiao Chen then walked inside. He squatted down in front of Fu Yan, reached out to check his breath, and looked up at the two bodyguards, saying, "Get him to the hospital immediately!"

...

The next day.

Xiao Xin received two million from the company, asked Mo Xuan for leave, and then took a taxi to go home.

He asked the driver to park the car at a mobile phone store not far from his home, and then got out of the car.

Xiao Xin walked into the mobile phone store. The owner, a middle-aged man, saw Xiao Xin and politely stepped forward to ask, "Hello, how can I help you?"

Xiao Xin took out her phone, with its screen shattered, from her pocket and asked him, "Excuse me, can this be repaired?"

The shop owner took the phone, glanced at it, and frowned: "It's so badly damaged, why don't we just buy a new one?"

Xiao Xin lowered his eyes, pondered for a moment, and then said to him, "There is something important inside."

The shop owner nodded, took his phone, walked to the table, and asked, "Photos, videos, or files?"

Xiao Xin replied, "Video and audio recordings."

After thinking for a moment, I asked again, "Can it be fixed?"

The shop owner took out a pair of glasses from the table and put them on. He tapped the screen and used a tool to turn on the phone.

After looking at it for half a minute, he said, "The main unit is still not broken. It should work after the screen is replaced. But your phone is so old. Do you want to consider getting a new one? The store is having a promotion right now, buy a phone and get free talk time."

Xiao Xin randomly picked a reasonably priced phone in the 1000 yuan range, pointed to the counter, and said, "This one will do."

The shop owner put down what he was doing, inserted the SIM card into his new phone, and then said, "It will take some time to replace the screen on your broken phone. I have some other orders ahead of me. If you're not in a hurry, you can come back in two weeks to pick it up."

Xiao Xin turned on her phone and asked him, "How much is it in total?"

The shop owner then said, "It's hard to say about the broken one right now. You should pay for the new phone first, and I'll give you the total cost when you come to pick it up next time."

Xiao Xin nodded and said okay, then scanned the QR code to pay.

After buying the phone, he turned into the alleyway leading home from the street.

Xiao Xin hadn't logged into WeChat, and his new phone didn't have any previous call records, so he didn't know if anyone had called him.

For some reason, the closer he got to home, the stronger his unease became, as if he had a premonition that something was going to happen.

Halfway there, I bumped into the noodle shop owner.

Xiao Xin saw her and greeted her politely.

The proprietress saw him and looked surprised: "Xiao Xin, are you alright?"

Xiao Xin frowned slightly: "Why do you say that, sister?"

The proprietress leaned close to him mysteriously and whispered, "Last night I heard that a large group of people left this alley, and then a young man covered in blood was carried out of the alley, it seems to have come from your building..."

As if remembering something, Xiao Xin thanked her and quickened her pace home.

The landlady called out to him from behind, "Hey, Xiao Xin, you don't need that garage anymore?"

Xiao Xin paused, turned around and handed the garage key back to her: "Thank you, sis. You probably won't need that anymore, please keep the key."

The proprietress put away the keys and nodded, "Then you can get back to work."

Xiao Xin didn't exchange any more pleasantries with her. After thanking her again, he hurried home, walking and running.

He became increasingly flustered as he walked, as if he had returned to that dark and windy night.

A dark alley, Fu Yan lying in a pool of blood, and a stray cat with glowing green eyes...

Xiao Xin prayed silently, "It can't be Fu Yan, it can't be Fu Yan, how could it always be Fu Yan..."

As he approached the entrance to the building, he saw a trail of blood, dripping intermittently, winding from the intersection to the main entrance.

Xiao Xin's eyes reddened, and hot tears welled up suddenly.

He started running and ran up to the eighth floor without stopping.
