Qiao Chen's smile froze, his cold eyes behind his glasses hardened, and he glanced back at the door that Yu Muqing had tightly closed.
He raised his hand to push up his glasses, took a long stride, and followed Fu Qingting's steps.
Xiao Xin's legs went numb from sitting on the floor. He was about to get up when he saw Yu Muqing enter the room, and he sheepishly hid back behind the sofa.
Fu Yan was still kneeling on the ground when Yu Muqing strode up to him, her eyes filled with heartache.
He held Fu Yan's arm and said softly, "Xiao Yan, they're all gone. Get up, it's alright..."
Fu Yan seemed not to hear him, neither responding nor moving.
He numbly scratched the bruises on his left wrist with his fingertips.
Fu Yan seemed oblivious to the pain at the bruises on his wrists, scratching them vigorously, his bloodied fingertips trembling.
Yu Muqing frowned as she watched his movements, knowing that Fu Yan must have had another episode.
He reached out and grabbed Fu Yan's coat from the sofa, took out a medicine bottle from it; it was antidepressant medication prescribed by the doctor.
A year ago, Fu Yan was diagnosed with mild depression.
Apart from Yu Muqing, no one else knew.
After feeding Fu Yan the medicine, he half-squatted in front of Fu Yan and pulled him into his chest.
He gently patted Fu Yan's head and apologized, "I'm sorry, Xiao Yan, I didn't know Qiao Chen would bring my uncle here. I'm sorry I'm late..."
Yu Muqing was engrossed in his work and missed several calls from his manager. By the time he realized what was happening and rushed to the private room, it was too late.
Yu Muqing's long hair swayed on Fu Yan's face, making it a little itchy.
Fu Yan's eyes flickered slightly, and his numb expression softened somewhat.
The first thing he saw when he looked up was Yu Muqing's guilty face.
Fu Yan pushed away Yu Muqing's arm. His legs were a little numb from kneeling for so long. He supported himself on the sofa with one hand and sat down on the sofa with his legs half bent.
Fu Yan leaned back on the sofa, raised his hand to shield his eyes, and said softly, "Cousin, I'm the one who should apologize. I've been troubling you all this time. I know you're afraid of my dad. I'm fine, I don't blame you..."
Yu Muqing had indeed been afraid of Fu Qingting since childhood, for no apparent reason.
Even if he's crazy outside, Yu Muqing's upbringing instilled good manners in him from a young age means he never talks back to his elders.
Fu Qingting was strict with people and wanted to raise Fu Yan to be a perfect son from a young age. However, Fu Yan not only failed to become the perfect son in Fu Qingting's mind, but also went against the grain and became a playboy in the eyes of outsiders.
This caused Fu Qingting to be very disappointed in him, and she felt annoyed whenever she saw Fu Yan.
To avoid seeing him and getting annoyed, Fu Qingting decided to send Fu Yan, who had just started high school, abroad.
So when Fu Yan was just fifteen years old, Fu Qingting sent him abroad.
When Fu Yan was a child, he was naughty and often got beaten by Fu Qingting because of his playfulness.
Those whips lashed out the skin of six-year-old Fu Yan, while Yu Muqing, who was only sixteen at the time, still felt terrified when she recalled that scene.
Yu Muqing thought that it was probably from that time that he began to fear Fu Qingting from the bottom of his heart.
Sometimes he felt inexplicably that Fu Qingting had disliked him since childhood, and he guessed that the reason was probably because Fu Yan's mother was his aunt.
The phrase "to hate crows and extend that hatred to crows" is very suitable to describe Fu Qingting.
Yu Muqing squatted on the ground, maintaining her original posture, glanced at him sideways, and called out, "Xiao Yan..."
His tone was low, barely concealing the repression in his heart.
Fu Yan sensed the worry in his words when Yu Muqing wanted to say something more.
Fu Yanxian said, "Cousin, I want to be alone for a while..."
This was a tactful way of asking them to leave.
Yu Muqing frowned slightly: "Are you sure you're alright all by yourself?"
Fu Yan's face was mostly covered by his arm, so from Yu Muqing's angle, only Fu Yan's chin and his prominent Adam's apple could be seen.
Fu Yan gave a faint "hmm," and said, "I'm fine, you go ahead with your work."
Yu Muqing then got up from the ground and stood in front of Fu Yan. "Then you stay here by yourself for a while. Call me if anything happens."
Fu Yan nodded slightly. "I understand."
Yu Muqing lowered her eyes, put one hand in her pocket, and turned to walk towards the door.
The soles of the shoes made a crisp "tap-tap" sound on the ground.
As Xiao Xin listened to the approaching tap-tat sound, his usually quiet heart began to pound inexplicably.
He hid behind the sofa, his back tense, his eyes closed, holding his breath.
He was terrified that Yu Muqing would discover he was eavesdropping behind the sofa...
"Squeak..."
As the door opened, a sudden burst of light appeared in front of the private room, extending to the top of Xiao Xin's head.
He covered his mouth, lowered his head, and moved further off the sofa, his bottom hitting the cold floor, which ached terribly.
Yu Muqing glanced back at Fu Yan, her eyes seemingly shrouded in a thick fog.
With just one glance, he stepped out of the room, then turned around and slowly closed the door.
Standing at the door, Yu Muqing spoke to the two rabbit-like male servants standing beside her without looking to the side: "No one is allowed to go in and disturb him without my permission."
"yes."
"yes."
The rabbit servants responded in unison, obediently bowing their heads in agreement.
The private room fell silent again...
It was so quiet that Xiao Xin could hear his own breathing.
He poked his head out from behind the sofa, revealing his eyes as he looked in Fu Yan's direction.
Fu Yan was curled up on the sofa, looking like a stray dog, and looked inexplicably pitiful.
Xiao Xin was startled by the analogy in her mind, but when she thought of Fu Qingting's words, "Don't go back to the Fu family if you haven't found the person," she suddenly felt that her analogy was not bad either.
Xiao Xin slowly got up in the darkness, stretched his body by raising his hands above his head.
With the aches and pains all over his body relieved, Xiao Xin felt only one word: awesome.
