Chapter 56 He injured his brain

Xiao Xin was already slow-moving, and he slowed down even more when he was thinking.

He was walking along the side of the road when a motorcycle was about to hit his shoulder, but he was so distracted that he didn't react.

Fu Yan quickly pulled him to the other side of the road and made him walk to the inside of her.

Fu Yan looked at him with worried eyes: "Brother, be careful when you walk..."

Looking at the worry in those eyes, Xiao Xin suddenly remembered that He Yunzhou had pulled him like that before, and his heart inexplicably felt heavy.

He looked away from Fu Yan and whispered, "Thank you."

Fu Yanren was taller than him, and he easily patted Xiao Xin on the back of the head: "Although I am younger than you, I always feel that you are the one who needs to be taken care of."

This was the first time Xiao Xin had heard someone say that to him, and her heart warmed inexplicably, but she also felt awkward. She looked up and glared at him fiercely: "Say it again if you dare?"

Fu Yan pursed his lips, suppressing a smile in his eyes, and remained silent.

Xiao Xin looked away, staring at the road, and scoffed, "That's more like it."

The two arrived at the noodle shop in no time.

Xiao Xin grabbed Fu Yan's wrist and walked in without thinking, calling out to the proprietress who was engrossed in keeping accounts, "Sister."

The proprietress was busy, but when she looked up and saw Xiao Xin, her face immediately lit up with joy. She grinned and said, "Oh, Xiao Xin is here! Come on, come on, find a seat."

As she spoke, she quickly pulled up two chairs, looked at Fu Yan next to Xiao Xin, and asked Xiao Xin, "What's this?"

Xiao Xin replied casually, "It's a distant cousin of mine who came to ask me for lodging."

The proprietress glanced at Fu Yan's clothes and could tell at a glance that he was not from a poor family.

But since she still came to live in this area, she couldn't fathom the thoughts of the wealthy, so she could only smile and say, "Well, don't stand, have a seat first."

Fu Yan had a cold face and didn't seem easy to get along with. The proprietress didn't dare to be polite with him and said to Xiao Xin, "Just call me if you want anything to eat. I'll get busy now."

Xiao Xin smiled and nodded, then pressed Fu Yan into a chair and asked him, "What would you like to eat?"

Fu Yan glanced at the menu and asked Xiao Xin, "What's good to eat here?"

Xiao Xin scratched his ear. He thought for a moment that he usually ate whatever he could find, and he didn't care whether it tasted good or not.

He casually pointed to a tomato and beef brisket rice dish for Fu Yan, "This one."

He had never actually eaten there before, but it looked quite expensive, and besides, the proprietress's cooking skills were good, so it probably couldn't be too bad.

Fu Yan smiled and nodded, closing the menu: "Then let's eat this."

Xiao Xin casually ordered a bowl of noodles for himself and then handed the menu to the waiter.

When the food was served, the proprietress herself brought it up.

It was just past lunchtime, and there weren't many customers in the shop. The proprietress took advantage of the lull to chat with Xiao Xin for a bit.

The proprietress sat down next to Xiao Xin opposite Fu Yan.

Xiao Xin didn't think anything was wrong. As usual, he grabbed a handful of cilantro into his bowl and started eating it heartily.

Xiao Xin had been eating very bland food at the hospital these past few days, so she specially added a little extra spice.

But he accidentally put in too much, and soon his forehead was sweating from the spiciness.

The proprietress, who had been watching from the side, withdrew her infatuated gaze, poured Xiao Xin a glass of warm water, and then used a tissue to wipe away Xiao Xin's sweat.

She smiled at Xiao Xin and said, "This child, eat slowly. My chili peppers are very spicy, and you still put in so much. Are you getting burned by the spiciness?"

Xiao Xin shook her head: "It's okay, sis. This level of spiciness is fine. It won't kill you."

The proprietress raised her hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead; their actions seemed a little too intimate.

Fu Yan took in the proprietress's every move, his dark eyes growing increasingly intense.

Xiao Xin felt his gaze and glanced back at Fu Yan's cold and stern face.

Fu Yan's gaze was exactly the same as when he looked at that little girl last time.

As if realizing something, he immediately took the tissue from the proprietress's hand: "Hey, you can go ahead and do your work, I can do it myself."

After Fu Yan's outburst last time, he learned his lesson and no longer dared to get too close to others in front of Fu Yan.

I don't want to go home and cause him trouble, and then he'll have to coax me. Just thinking about it makes me tired.

The proprietress, thinking he was shy, propped her chin on her hand and sat down beside him, saying, "Oh my, shy now? If I weren't already married, I'd definitely be chasing after a handsome young man like you, hahaha..."

Fu Yan couldn't take it anymore. He slammed his spoon down on the table and said loudly, "I'm full."

The proprietress's gaze suddenly shifted to Fu Yan, only then realizing that she had overlooked a handsome young man.

She looked at Fu Yan with a smile and asked, "How's Auntie's cooking? Is it delicious?"

Fu Yan sat upright in his chair, arms crossed, looking at the proprietress expressionlessly, and spat out two words: "Disgusting."

The proprietress's smile froze, and she didn't know what to say for a moment, giving an awkward laugh.

Xiao Xin, who was eating noodles, was almost shocked by what he said. Fu Yan was being incredibly rude.

He pulled his chin back and quickly explained to the proprietress, "Sister, please don't take it to heart. He has a brain injury, so he's a little short-tempered."

"Huh?" The proprietress was confused by his words. What did a brain injury have to do with a bad temper?

Xiao Xin belatedly realized she had said the wrong thing and said embarrassedly, "Um, I'm sorry, sis, he didn't mean it."

Fu Yan crossed his arms and frowned slightly. He wanted to say that he did it on purpose, but seeing Xiao Xin's panicked expression, he realized that he might have gone a bit too far.

To avoid embarrassing Xiao Xin, Fu Yan crossed his arms and looked at the proprietress, saying, "I'm sorry."

His expression was arrogant, and he treated an apology like a debt collection.

The proprietress had no idea what he was up to. To avoid embarrassment, she smiled and said it was nothing before heading into the kitchen to get busy.

Xiao Xin shook her head at him, then finished eating the noodles in her bowl.

He glanced at the tomato and beef brisket in Fu Yan's bowl, which had only been touched twice, and said sternly, "Finish your meal, or don't come home with me."

Seeing how serious he was, Fu Yan knew he had offended Xiao Xin, so he buried his head and continued to finish his bowl of rice.

Ten minutes later, he pointed to the clean plate, not a single grain of rice left, and said to Xiao Xin, "Is this okay, bro?"

Xiao Xin's expression softened a bit, and she nodded: "Mm."

When it came time to pay, Xiao Xin didn't ask any questions and just paid.

Before leaving, he asked the proprietress where there were good parking spaces nearby. Fu Yan's car was too conspicuous, so he needed to find a better parking space to keep it safe.

After thinking for a moment, the proprietress gave Xiao Xin her empty private parking space.

Xiao Xin originally wanted to pay, but the proprietress said that the seat was empty anyway, so she didn't charge Xiao Xin.

Listening to their conversation, Fu Yan suddenly realized that the landlady was actually a very nice person. He felt a little guilty when he thought that his words and actions might have hurt someone.

The proprietress saw Xiao Xin to the door. Before leaving, Fu Yan turned back, bowed to her, and said sincerely, "I'm sorry, sister. I apologize for my behavior just now. Your cooking is delicious. It was wrong of me to say what I did!"
