Chapter 29 The Old Man Who Rolled Down

Chapter 29 The Old Man Rolling Down

Fu Zhaoning turned her head and saw an old man carrying a medicine basket stumbling towards her.

There was a slope coming down from the top, and he was running out of breath and looked like he was going to fall down at any time. Seeing this, Fu Zhaoning's mouth twitched and he stood up.

"Old man, run slower and don't fall."

Before she could finish her words, the old man tripped over something and fell down. Not only did he fall to the ground, but he couldn't stop himself and rolled down the slope.

"Oh my God, I'm falling down!"

The old man screamed and waved his hands in vain, trying to grab something to stop himself, but to no avail.

"Girl, you have to catch me! Quick, quick, ahhhh, I feel dizzy!"

"Catch me, save me."

For a moment, the silence of the forest was completely broken by this old man. As he rolled down, he could still scream and shout continuously.

Some gravel and weeds were also rolled down as he rolled.

Fu Zhaoning's mouth twitched. He quickly put down the backpack, took a few steps forward, stepped on two places with stones and tree roots, stood firmly, and looked at the old man who rolled down.

When he rolled in front of him, he immediately grabbed him with both hands and stepped firmly on his feet to avoid being knocked down by him and rolling down.

The old man's rolling finally stopped.

My vision, which had been spinning all the time, has now stabilized.

He was motionless for a long time, with his eyes closed, his hands holding his head, not moving at all.

"Old man?"

Fu Zhaoning called him.

The old man's eyelids moved.

"Are you not fainted? Then get up quickly. My hands will get sore from holding you like this." Fu Zhaoning said helplessly.

The old man then opened his eyes, looked at the sky, then looked at Fu Zhaoning, glanced around, and let out a long sigh.

"Oh, little girl, you really took care of my old bones!"

He sat up with the help of Fu Zhaoning, and put down his hands that were holding his head. His hands were still shaking, and he looked scared. "I was really scared. I thought I was going to die here."

Fu Zhaoning waited until he was seated firmly before letting go of his hand and taking two steps back.

The old man looked to be in his fifties or sixties, with half of his hair gray and a peach wood hairpin in his hair. Although his cloth robe had no patches, it had become a little gray from washing. It was torn in several places from rolling all the way here, and one of his shoes had fallen off.

She looked up and searched, and saw the shoe in the weeds. She walked over, picked up the shoe, and put it at the old man's feet.

When he bent down, he saw that there was a hole in the old man's cloth socks, and one toe was exposed.

The old man followed her gaze and quickly picked up his shoes and put them on.

"It must have been worn out just now!" he said.

Fu Zhaoning couldn't help but laugh.

Well, she couldn't tell that the hole was a bit old.

It seems that this old man is not having a good time at home, so he came into the mountains to see what he can gain?

The old man put on his shoes, looked at his worn palms, and sighed.

I had shouted so loudly just now that this sigh actually sounded a bit sad.

"Grandpa, what are you doing here in Luoyue Mountain?" Fu Zhaoning asked.

"Then what are you doing here?" Unexpectedly, the old man who originally looked desolate immediately raised his head and asked her back, while looking at her.

"I'm here to pick herbs." Fu Zhaoning raised his eyebrows and told the truth.

"Did you want to go down and see if there were any good medicinal herbs by the tree on the cliff?"

The old man immediately glared at her and began to lecture her, "I say, little girl, are you too brave? The edge of the cliff is so dangerous and so high. What can you catch by reaching down like that? If you fall down by accident, your bones will be broken!"

Before Fu Zhaoning could say anything, the old man immediately took over.

"At dusk, the water cliff will be windy. The wind is weird and strong. With your small body, a gust of wind can blow you down!"

Will it be windy?

Fu Zhaoning didn't know this.

But of course she was sure that she would not fall, and even if she did, she would be able to grab the tree in time.

She had actually done this kind of thing many times before.

But even though the old man's words were unpleasant to the ear, one could still tell that he was doing it for her own good, so Fu Zhaoning didn't say anything.

"You're not convinced? Where's your master? Are you following some weird master who's forcing you to come and collect some herbs?"

Seeing that she didn't reply, the old man glared at her again.

Fu Zhaoning was wearing Hong Zhuo's clothes. Although the maids' clothes in Prince Jun's mansion were better in fabric and color than those used by ordinary people, they were still obviously maids' clothes, not those of a rich lady. But they were not the clothes of an ordinary peasant girl either.

That's why the old man guessed that she might be someone's maid.

Fu Zhaoning did not explain, but just looked at the sky and advised him, "Old man, it's getting late, you should hurry down the mountain."

She could see from the way the old man rolled down just now that although he was in good health and his movements were quite agile, he really had no kung fu.

It’s definitely not safe in the mountains now.

"I haven't found many medicinal herbs yet, so I won't go down the mountain."

The old man glared and asked speculatively, "Are you afraid that I will steal your herbs? No, whoever finds them will own them. They can't be said to be yours!"

"That's not what I meant." Fu Zhaoning spread his hands helplessly, "The mountains are not safe."

"How many times have you come to Luoyue Mountain?" the old man asked again.

"The first time." Fu Zhaoning was very frank.

"I've been here dozens of times. I have much more experience than you. Who are you to tell me it's unsafe? You, a little girl, should get down the mountain as soon as possible."

"Okay, okay, you have experience, so you should know that it is even more unsafe in the mountains at night. If you don't want to go down the mountain, quickly find a place to hide for the night."

Fu Zhaoning may not have much patience with others, but because she used to depend on her grandfather, she is quite patient with the old man.

"You little girl, we don't even know each other, but you worry so much." The old man was quite disgusted.

Fu Zhaoning didn't say anything else. She picked up her backpack and was about to continue checking the tree when she heard a gurgling sound.

She turned around and saw the old man holding his stomach.

"It's not me! My stomach isn't growling! How could an old hand like me who often goes into the mountains to collect herbs be hungry in the mountains?" The old man shouted out immediately.

Fu Zhaoning held back his laughter, took out the remaining steamed bun from the backpack and handed it over.

"I only have one steamed bun left. It's cold but it should taste good. Please have it."

She originally thought that the old man would be polite, but she didn't expect that the old man who had just said that he was not hungry at all would immediately reach out and take the steamed bun, stuff it into his mouth, and take a big bite.

"In consideration of your kindness, I'd like to join you in digging herbs." The old man said vaguely while eating a steamed bun.
