Chapter 65
The voice attracted a white-haired man dressed in purple robes, the patterns on which revealed his nobility. His attire was unlike that of the patched, gray-clad monsters of Guancheng, though he wasn't properly dressed either. The robes hung loosely on his body, exposing a large portion of his chest, but it must be said that he was quite fair-skinned.
A beautiful female demon leaned against the man upon seeing him, her voice soft and sweet, "Lord Suifu, what brings you here?"
The man named Sui Fu was no less handsome than the two cultivators not far away, and his aura was even far superior to theirs. It seemed that he was quite popular among the female demons in Guan City, not only because of his good looks and strength, but also because of his good nature. Although he hadn't done anything to any of the female demons, he would protect them if they encountered any trouble.
Some male demons were also furious at the sight of the beautiful female demon. They, too, had desires in this awful place, and this female demon had rejected countless men, all for Sui Fu. They acknowledged her good looks and admitted they were no match for her.
Sui Fu pulled the arm that the female demon had grabbed from his body and looked at the monsters in front of him, asking, "What brings you here?"
They looked at the two fellow disciples fighting against a group of demons not far away, and Sui Fu's gaze also shifted over.
"For them?" His tone suddenly became more serious. "Excuse me, they are mine."
"What does this mean, sir?" a tall, muscular male demon asked.
Sui Fu continued in an unquestionable tone, "I am not willing to share with others, so you may all leave."
The tall, burly male demon naturally disagreed. He pointed a knife at Sui Fu and said, "You call me 'sir'? Do you really think you're someone important? What right does a fox spirit have to speak to me like that?"
As soon as the male demon finished speaking, he brandished the large sword. Sui Fu dodged several times, but the male demon became even more arrogant, saying, "Is this all you've got? If I kill you, your position will be mine."
Seeing the scene before her, the banshee found a place to hide. She was only good-looking; her strength was really nothing. At this point, survival was the most important thing.
Only then did the male demon realize that his attacks were like punching cotton; he had used all his strength but hadn't harmed Sui Fu in the slightest. Every attack was dodged, and his strength was being depleted with each strike.
The male demon stopped attacking; his hand, gripping the heavy sword, was trembling with exhaustion.
Sui Fu looked at the man's trembling arm and mocked, "You, a tiger demon, are not even as good as me, a fox demon?"
The tiger demon, naturally unable to tolerate such humiliation, once again raised his sword to slash at Sui Fu.
Sui Fu watched with a smile as the heavy blade in the tiger demon's hand came crashing down, only to be caught by a folding fan. The tiger demon had put all its strength into this attack, yet it had been caught so easily. Before it could even react, the fan struck it squarely in the chest.
This attack sent the tiger demon flying and crashing to the ground. It took him a long time to get up, leaning on his sword. He didn't retreat as Sui Fu approached, but instead raised his sword to meet him. However, he was knocked away again, and this time the tiger demon didn't get up.
Seeing this, the monsters retreated as they looked at Sui Fu, but since Guan Cheng had finally managed to get two cultivators with low cultivation levels, they were unwilling to give up.
The female demon trembled with fear as she saw Sui Fu turn to look in her direction; she was even less frightened than the tiger demon. Sui Fu, seemingly uninterested in her, seized the opportunity while he wasn't ready to kill her and quickly slipped away.
The demons glanced at the departing female demon, then at the two cultivators still fighting the monsters. Even if they stopped now and joined forces to deal with Sui Fu, they wouldn't be a match for him. They were still alive, and there was still a long way to go; more people would come from Guancheng.
Those monsters who had figured things out naturally left, while those who were unwilling to stay were no match for them and followed the main group away.
"Finally, it's quiet," Sui Fu sighed.
The two men still fighting below were naturally unaware of the fierce battle raging deep in the woods, and they had no time to care about anything else.
The atmosphere in this city was deathly still, devoid of both spiritual and demonic energy. The sudden surge of spiritual energy made it extremely difficult for the demons to endure.
Shi Yunzhou's eyes gleamed as he watched spiritual energy continuously emanating from a bottle in Zhou Xuanzhi's hand. He regretted not cultivating a good relationship with his fellow disciples on Lunzhe Peak; he could have even asked them to help him forge a few more magical treasures like these.
This magical artifact, named the "Breathing Bottle," was crafted with the help of a senior brother from Lunzhe Peak. During its creation, an array was set up inside. One bottle was placed on the back mountain of Lingqiu Peak, while the other was carried with the user. Activating the array allows the bottle on the back mountain to absorb spiritual energy, while the bottle in the user's hand can release it.
These were all crafted after encountering the Illusion Demon, yet they were used in Guancheng.
The demons in the city didn't share this thought; they suspected that the two people before them might be powerful figures in disguise. Otherwise, given their cultivation level and the amount of spiritual energy they released, they would have already died from exhaustion.
Demons with wounds were at their most vulnerable. Spiritual energy entered their bodies through the wounds, purifying the demonic energy within. The stronger the demonic energy, the stronger the purification effect. Finally, some could no longer bear it.
The pain radiating from their bodies caused the monsters to squat on the ground, sweat beading on their foreheads, too weak to utter a sound.
"Who exactly are you people?" the monster, still standing there, asked.
“Tianyu Mountain, Zhou Xuanzhi.”
"Illusory Sea, Master Yunzhou."
They had heard of these two names before; they were Shi Wanqing's apprentices.
"You've come to Guancheng to find your master? You're so old, yet you can't be separated from your master for even a moment? Are you here to ask your master for candy?" a demon mocked the two.
Upon hearing this, Shi Yunzhou perked up. Wasn't he here precisely to find out about Gu Qingci? It seemed they had mistaken Gu Qingci for their master when she came in.
Zhou Xuanzhi, however, was thinking that although the appearance might be different after reincarnation, the aura surrounding the person remained unchanged. These demons recognized Gu Qingci as their master because of this aura. But Gu Qingci wasn't originally their master's reincarnation; the so-called aura was merely from the bracelet. Could it be that the bracelet had already begun protecting her back then?
However, the sword in his hand could sense every movement of the bracelet. He first sensed it when Gu Qingci came out of Guancheng.
"It seems you already know." Shi Yunzhou's pretentious demeanor made the demon opposite him feel that this person was harboring malicious intentions.
What do you want to do?
Shi Yunzhou pointed his sword at the demon, his spiritual energy surging. "Then I can't let you live."
But that's all – no real action. The demon was already prepared to fight again, yet the other side didn't make a move. That was strange. Something was definitely amiss. When he turned around, he saw Zhou Xuanzhi standing behind him. How come he hadn't noticed this person before?
But it was too late now. Zhou Xuanzhi's spiritual energy was no less than Shi Yunzhou's, and the two spiritual energies had already surrounded them.
The demons weren't stupid, of course. If they were just trying to silence someone, they wouldn't have gone to so much trouble. So, they mustered their courage and asked, "What do you want to do?"
“Tell me everything that happened on the day my master arrived here.”
Yao was momentarily stunned. He had only heard about Shi Wanqing's arrival; he hadn't seen her in person.
Seeing the monster hesitate for a long time, Zhou Xuanzhi released spiritual energy from the bottle again. The circle of spiritual energy grew smaller and smaller, and the monster was helpless. He believed that if he told the truth, he would definitely be killed by Shi Yunzhou.
"Are you so sure he's your master?" the female demon, who was kneeling on the ground, suddenly asked.
Shi Yunzhou shifted his gaze to her. "So you were there that night?"
The succubus struggled to stand up, but to no avail. Seeing that neither of the two cultivators intended to withdraw their spiritual energy, she shut her mouth.
Seeing the female demon begin to threaten him, Shi Yunzhou laughed and said, "There were plenty of demons that night, one more won't make a difference." As soon as he finished speaking, spiritual energy surrounded her.
The sensation of spiritual purification made the succubus tremble uncontrollably, until she finally collapsed to the ground, her entire body aching. The demons couldn't bear to watch her helpless struggle.
Someone weakly said, "It was your master who said that he wasn't Shi Wanqing."
“We’ve been locked up here for hundreds of years and don’t know what’s going on outside, but that aura is your master’s, though she won’t admit it herself.” This little demon looked like an eleven or twelve-year-old girl. During the fight, she was protected by the demons and didn’t suffer any harm, but the spiritual energy was still very uncomfortable for her.
"You saw it?" Zhou Xuanzhi withdrew some of his spiritual energy, giving the demons a moment to breathe.
The little monster nodded. "I saw it. We didn't hurt her. She ran away on her own."
This was similar to what Gu Qingci had said. Zhou Xuanzhi then asked, "Besides my master, who else came in that day?"
The little demon glanced at the surrounding demons, and after receiving their hint, shook its head at Zhou Xuanzhi.
The demon who had been talking the whole time immediately chimed in, "Guancheng is very large. If someone with a cultivation level of over a thousand years intentionally hides themselves, we wouldn't know. We didn't sense you when you came in; we all came by the smell of blood." The demon's voice gradually faded.
"Who is the strongest among you?" Shi Yunzhou asked, withdrawing all his spiritual energy and placing his sword against the monster's neck.
"Lord Sui... Lord Suifu." Seeing the sword brimming with spiritual energy, the demon was truly afraid that if this person's hand trembled, he would turn into the person on the ground.
"Yearly fluctuations?"
The monster pointed to the sword at his neck, and Shi Yunzhou sheathed it.
The monster swallowed hard and said, "Lord Suifu came two hundred years ago. He is very powerful and is not afraid of any spiritual energy."
These threatening words prompted Shi Yunzhou to place his sword against the demon's neck again, preventing the demon from continuing. He said, "Lord Suifu is a fox spirit with over a thousand years of cultivation. He is not close to anyone and will not easily provoke your people."
"Go, all of you!" Zhou Xuanzhi, having gotten the answer he wanted, naturally let them go.
Seeing that Shi Yunzhou had already sheathed his sword, the demon asked somewhat uneasily, "Are you really letting us leave?"
"Otherwise, will you take us to find Sui Fu?" Shi Yunzhou looked at the monster with eyes that seemed to want to freeze him to death.
The monster quickly waved goodbye, and they helped each other leave this place of trouble.
Standing not far away, Sui Fu shook his head. "So you're betraying me like that?"
As he spoke, the strange, upside-down man reappeared behind him. "Does Your Excellency require me to kill them?"
"Why bother arguing with them? We still have a mission here."
"Where are the two cultivators?" the unidentified creature asked, looking at the two cultivators who had already begun to move.
"Aren't they looking for me? Go and bring them here now." Sui Fu left these words behind and disappeared from the spot.
"My two masters would like to invite you to have a cup of tea."
As Zhou Xuanzhi and Shi Yunzhou walked forward, they heard a voice behind them. When they turned around, they saw a person hanging upside down, speaking to them in an extremely distorted manner.
Who is the owner of your house?
"Lord Sui Fu".
