Once Cheng Shuang had arranged the books, 'The Call from Time' was peacefully surrounded by 'Records of National Anecdotes' and 'Children Protected by Nature'. Then, a ding sounded, proving that the arrangement was completely correct.
The little girl finally let out a sigh of relief, and only then did she have the leisure to pull out the book 'Children Protected by Nature'.
While sorting the books, she felt something was off about the book; the pages were old, especially compared to 'The Call from Time,' which seemed to be a frequently borrowed book.
The book is not thick. It tells the story of a woman who disguises herself as a man to study at an academy in ancient times. After several setbacks, she endures the difficult period of living with her fellow students, where "two rabbits run side by side, how can one tell if they are male or female?" She passes the imperial examination at a young age and becomes a scholar. However, on her way to the capital to take the metropolitan examination, she encounters a bandit and falls into the sea while fleeing.
The plot took a dramatic turn, and the style of the story changed drastically.
A young woman, stranded in a foreign land, used her knowledge to cultivate wasteland, improve farming tools, and develop animal husbandry to repay the simple fishermen who saved her. She eventually became wealthy and reached the pinnacle of her life, receiving a title and land, and becoming the richest countess in the history of the foreign land.
The last page of the book was folded into a triangle.
She gently unfolded the page and saw a key lying in the book. The key was bronze in color, with a three-petaled flower-shaped handle. Its color and pattern matched the lock on the cabinet perfectly.
For some reason, I feel like I've been ripped off!
The little girl put the key away and returned the books to their original places, secretly complaining.
This clue is so well hidden that you would never notice it if you weren't paying attention!
When people are in such a rush that they lose their composure and are in a hurry to sort the books, they don't have time to be distracted and get a feel for the books.
If you fail to complete the previous sorting level and cannot open the book, you will be completely trapped in the library.
She'd experienced escape rooms firsthand; they were truly addictive yet deadly games...
The crack in the door has widened again.
From the width between fingers to the size of a palm.
Cheng Shuang could even see a blood-red eye and a strangely large nostril of the 'person' behind the door.
What kind of monster is this? Half of its nose is as wide as a crack in a door.
The little girl couldn't help but tighten her embrace of the teddy bear, her heart pounding like a drum.
The key is clearly for the drawer on the counter. If we try to unlock it rashly and the key is wrong, will the monster outside just barge in?
She walked quickly to the counter, lowered her eyes and carefully examined the keyhole, judging that the carved patterns on them were exactly the same. Even the counter had the same relief decorations, which was completely different from the minimalist style of the library.
Cheng Shuang received a notification from the monster that the door had opened to the width of an A4 sheet of paper. It seemed that no matter what mistakes she made, the monster was going to come in.
But... if the door is open, does that mean we can escape?
She pondered for a moment, then peered over and her eyes widened in surprise.
The first thing that catches the eye is a pig's nose—a pig's nose as big as the crack in the door.
The little girl gasped.
It is rumored that pigs are omnivores and will eat anything when they get fierce!
Without further hesitation, she held her breath and extended the key. After noticing the teeth marks fit, she breathed a sigh of relief, gave it a slight twist, and heard a click.
Cheng Shuang looked up abruptly; the drawer was open, and the door was open too. Without even looking at what was inside, she packed everything up and took it with her, then tiptoed to the nearest bookshelf and hid.
Hmph!
Hmph!
Heavy breathing, carrying the stench of a wild beast, and a huge head covered in bristles frantically tried to squeeze in through the wide-open door. Strangely, this pig-faced creature had a pair of unusually small eyes that were greedily darting left and right, trying to see everything inside.
It was incredibly small; the little girl secretly measured it, and it was the size of a mung bean.
If she hadn't seen those blood-red beast eyes before, she would have thought at first glance that the big head didn't have eyes at all.
The big head was squeezed into the doorway, making it completely crowded. The fleshy part of its face was stuck on both sides of the door, revealing a blood-red mouth and messy fangs as long as an arm. As it squeezed its way into the library, saliva dripped all over the floor.
Although he looks quite fierce, I inexplicably feel that he's a bit stupid.
Cheng Shuang scratched his head in distress, pretending that he was stuck because of the pig's head, and focused his attention on the things in the cabinet.
A thick book catalog, an administrator's ID card, and a record book of student violations.
Having learned from her experience finding the keys, the girl first flipped through both notebooks to make sure nothing was hidden inside, and then checked the ID card, paying particular attention to the numbers on it.
The card was issued in a single line, indicating the period from September 1933 to August 1934.
No new clues have been found yet. Cheng Shuang glanced quickly at the door. The pig-headed monster was still struggling against the door panel, and the panting sound was getting louder and louder. The little girl knew she had to hurry.
The library is a regular cube structure, with desks surrounding the walls and rows of bookshelves clustered in the middle.
The door and the manager's desk are facing each other. If Cheng Shuang returns to the desk to look for clues, she will inevitably be targeted by the pig-headed monster, which may trigger its ferocity and allow it to enter the house.
She calmed her slightly agitated mind and began to flip through the case records page by page. The records started from September 1933, and there were quite a few people who had made mistakes.
Some students secretly brought snacks in, while others were caught copying classmates' homework in the library. Still others liked to lick their fingers when flipping through books and didn't pay attention to the hygiene of public books... Each mistake was graded.
Bringing snacks will only be a warning; if you eat snacks, you will receive a minor demerit at the library.
