Chapter 145 Drug Testing

No one knows the inner turmoil Cheng Shuang is going through.

No one would be so saintly as to give away a life-saving pill in a land of death to a stranger who is of no use to them and whom they may never see again.

Zhang Bao also understood this principle.

He groaned in pain, unwilling to give up on getting help, yet he also felt a hidden resentment.

They clearly had a chance to start their lives anew, and they could have become stronger and stronger.

If you can live, who would want to die!

He would contemplate suicide by drowning simply because he was terminally ill and had nowhere else to turn. In order to treat his illness, he sold his house and land, became homeless, and his illness was not cured. His relatives also avoided him like locusts and rats.

Living has become a burden.

They drag down their families and society.

Now, he is healthy and can run and jump. Even if he is a ghost, as long as he has talismans, he can try his family's Taoist arts and still have a chance to survive in this strange world.

Even though the burning pain was excruciating, Zhang Bao was still tormented by this unwillingness, forgetting the pain, and a flame was burning in his heart.

He wanted to live, he really wanted to live...

The group surrounding Zhang Bao dispersed, and Liao Yuewei also pulled the little girl back to their original spot.

She whispered a warning to Cheng Shuang, "Don't look anymore, he won't make it." She paused, seemingly advising the young girl as well as herself, "Dying like this is better than being tormented to death by ghosts. At least we're here with him now..."

Would this be better?

Cheng Shuang couldn't understand the meaning of Liao Yuewei's so-called companionship, but the little girl suddenly remembered the last place of death, the lonely and afraid newlyweds who stayed alone in the hotel when facing the jellyfish monster.

After putting herself in the girl's shoes, she shuddered.

She hugged Liao Yuewei's arm, her voice neither too loud nor too soft, as if on a sudden whim, "Sister, I want to... go and keep him company."

The expressions of the different defenders were all different: Tian Dashuo smiled coldly, Su Ming curled his lips in mockery, Wenwen lowered her head to hide her expression, and Fangfang and her brother looked around curiously.

Liao Yuewei's eyes showed a conflicted expression.

Soon, the doors of the orphanages on both sides clicked open, letting in a soft, dim light.

Tian Dashuo chuckled, raised his arms, and slowly walked towards Zone 1 with his head in his hands. Su Ming gave Wenwen a wink, subtly indicating Zone 2.

Wenwen nodded quietly, but who would have thought that at that moment, Tian Dashuo scooped her up with one arm, hoisted her onto his shoulder, and ran into Zone 2.

Su Ming shouted, "Wenwen!"

Wenwen's terrified cries and screams echoed throughout the hall, "Su Ming, Su Ming! Put me down, Tian Dashuo, you bastard!"

Hearing his girlfriend's desperate cries, Su Ming gritted his teeth, his face turning red, and looked to Liu Jueshan and Liao Yuewei for help.

The man and woman both wore speechless expressions.

Is something wrong with you?!

If you don't go after your own girlfriend, do you expect someone else to do it for you?

Tian Dashuo also guessed that Su Ming was too cowardly. He might indeed have bad intentions towards Wenwen, but Su Ming's repeated concessions were the biggest reason why he dared to take action in the land of death.

Seeing that Liu Jueshan and Liao Yuewei turned their heads away from him, Su Ming clenched his fists in resentment, and finally mustered up his courage to chase after them.

"Go keep Zhang Bao company!" Liao Yuewei patted Cheng Shuang's head, not caring about the farce.

If Wenwen doesn't become strong on her own, she will still encounter similar situations. She can't expect someone to help her every time.

Fangfang frowned. "Brother Liu, I want to go and see. It's outrageous to bully a woman like that!"

Liu Jueshan pursed his lips. "Have you thought it through?"

Fangfang nodded.

“If you’re going to Zone 2, I’ll go to Zone 1. It’s not a good thing to stick together.” Liu Jueshan didn’t stop them, just gave them a few words of advice. The two of them greeted Liao Yuewei and Cheng Shuang respectively, then turned around and went their separate ways.

Cheng Shuang only came to her senses then. She hadn't noticed the farce that had happened because the little girl was trying hard to form a powder pill.

She had personally experienced the effectiveness and power of the pills. To be honest, she would definitely regret using such a powerful ability, which could almost bring the body to its peak, for simple treatment.

So the little girl became more cautious.

Previously, in order to save trouble, she condensed her skills into a single pill, which actually led her into a rigid mindset, commonly known as being stubborn.

She should have complete control over the repairman's skill output and the extent of the repairs, since each repair has a 24-hour cooldown. Repair attempts can be accumulated, given away, and there's no fear of theft. She could easily divide the condensed powder into several equal portions to avoid waste and accumulate it for future use.

Cheng Shuang estimated that one pink pill could replace at least ten white, green, red, and blue pills.

This time, she condensed ten pink pills, about the size of red beans, and their color was lighter.

Since there were no outsiders around, the little girl walked over and sat cross-legged next to Zhang Bao, whose injuries had clearly worsened but who was trying to keep his eyes wide open.

This man was unremarkable in appearance, usually hunched over, looking cowardly and wretched. But when faced with death, his eyes shone with a dazzling light—the desperate hope for survival.

Half of his face had been corroded, and the corrosion had spread to his neck, so he couldn't move his neck and could only stare blankly at Cheng Shuang out of the corner of his eye.

His voice was hoarse, with a hint of tears in it, "Thank you, little friend! Thank you for choosing to stay with me in the last moment!"

Cheng Shuang rubbed her nose, feeling awkward, and said, "Actually, I wanted to use you as a test subject for the medicine. Uncle, I'm not sure how effective this medicine is, or if it can save your life! But I'm out of white pills, do you mind? Maybe it won't heal your injury at all, or maybe it can only barely alleviate your pain..."
