Chapter 166 Instantly Becomes a Hot Commodity

The joy of the thawing of the spatial grid cannot alleviate the tension brought about by the crisis at all.

Cheng Shuang couldn't think of a way to drive away the spiders.

Yes, spiders, a group of black insects as big as two hands.

The powder sprinkled in the filing cabinet's empty spaces can only slow them down, not completely stop them from existing.

The little girl could only watch as the spider darted through the cracks in the cabinet and rapidly approached her.

It's like stirring up a spider's nest.

The spiders were densely packed, their ugly bodies covered in dirty fuzz. She couldn't tell what kind of spiders they were, but she knew they were definitely not vegetarians.

Cheng Shuang nimbly flipped to the top of the cabinet. Remembering Cheng Qing's hint about the boundary between black and white, she suppressed the urge to run to other alleys. She kicked away a heavy spider that was about to climb onto her shoe and stabbed it hard in the back with a ballpoint pen.

The spider was dead, its dark, shiny back oozing a greenish liquid. The ballpoint pen made a "plop" sound as it was pulled out, and from the tip upwards, it quickly turned into charred ash, which drifted away.

The smell of corroded plastic mixed with a strange sour smell hit her nose. Cheng Shuang reacted quickly and threw the remaining half of the pen down to avoid hurting herself.

It seems we can't kill them easily.

The little girl bit her lip in distress and could only run away.

She then ran down the top of the cabinet towards the corridor.

The entire area was dimly lit, without any gradual color transitions or the distinct black and white contrasts seen in Cheng Qingshi's work.

If she is in a place where the living live, the gradient color represents daytime, and the complete black represents nighttime. Is this level of darkness close to dawn?

If we just hold on a little longer, dawn will break.

Cheng Shuang encouraged herself.

Standing at the top, she quickly glanced down at the cabinet below. At a height of six meters, it was extremely easy to lose balance; a fall could be fatal. The little girl simply landed on all fours and scrambled to her feet. Soon, a string of spiders followed behind them, and the space above and below the cabinets was now densely packed with spiders, trembling again, yet stubbornly refusing to be destroyed.

Due to the excessive impact of her strength, the bear cub did not grow larger. She stood on the back of the zombie monster and Roan, attacking the insects that approached.

Many spiders were knocked down, but even more swarmed up.

Perhaps because the three dolls lacked souls and weren't human, they were ignored, while the little girl instantly became a hot commodity, attracting the dolls to fight each other and chase after her fervently. Fortunately, they weren't a disciplined group; the consequence of the insects squeezing each other was that while hunting Cheng Shuang, they first had to eliminate some of their competitors.

Many insects fell with a thud, like a black downpour.

Fortunately, these spiders are not capable of spinning webs, but it is possible that their excessive toxicity (corrosiveness) compensates for this.

When she reached the corridor, the ground was covered with spiders. They had clearly anticipated Cheng Shuang's path and were just waiting for her to walk into their trap.

The corridor is wide; jumping across is out of the question.

Pursuers were behind them, and a precipice lay ahead.

The little girl whispered, "Luo An!"

Luo An's porcelain-white face furrowed, and it suddenly grabbed Cheng Shuang's arm. Suddenly, the three dolls and one person appeared on the filing cabinet at the other end.

Cheng Shuang felt a sudden darkness before her eyes, then she shook off the spider behind her, crossed the corridor, and squatted on top of the cabinet opposite.

Luo An's skills are indeed quite useful, but it's unclear what the maximum distance of his short-range teleportation is limited to.

Its introduction doesn't show much, and many of its practical functions still need to be developed by oneself. Currently, it can be seen that fixed-point teleportation within the line of sight is entirely possible.

Come to think of it, if it were random, the skill would be far too dangerous. If you were to move into an enemy encirclement, wouldn't that be suicide?

The spider relentlessly pursued them, its countless legs scraping across the wooden boards and paper, making strange rustling sounds.

Because of their sheer number, they were surprisingly noticeable, giving one the creeps and an urge to escape at all costs.

Just as the spider was about to catch up, the little girl, who was about to start crawling away to catch the insect, suddenly stopped.

In the dim light, a book tucked under the corner of the desk in front of him came into view. The book was a little wrinkled, the cover design was somewhat retro, and the colors had faded, but Cheng Shuang was familiar with the title of the book—A Call from Time.

The little girl crawled even faster; she wanted to get the book before the spider surrounded the desk.

The missing pages are still stored in the compartment.

Cheng Shuang believed that it was waiting for her to piece it together.

Spiders are not slow, but they have too many obstacles. The difference between insects means that spiders side by side cannot achieve the same speed. They are crowded together, which actually affects the pursuit.

But some spiders that hadn't managed to squeeze onto the cabinet were lurking on the ground, ready to catch her. By the time the little girl reached the top of the desk, several large spiders had already crawled onto the tabletop.

The monster felt a tightness around the back of its neck and was thrown down. Before the spider could take over the book, it grabbed it and slowly flew back up.

The little girl looked up to catch the book, but before she could even open it, she was drawn to a beam of light.

She looked up and spotted the light in the high ceiling. Because of its blinding brightness, she knew the light came from the ceiling, not from the chandelier above her head.

Cheng Shuang narrowed her eyes, used the book in her hand to knock away several spiders that surrounded her from the front, and gave Luo An a command, "See the chandelier up there? Teleport over there."

Almost as soon as she gave the order, her feet slipped off the ground, her gaze suddenly rising to a height where the chandelier's shade was right in front of her.

The little girl held back a scream and grabbed the lampshade before it fell out of control. The dust on it rushed into her nostrils, causing her to cough violently.

This time, however, she could see it more clearly: there was a hole in the roof, and blinding light was streaming in through it, like the midday sun.

Her eyes were sore, so she quickly looked away and used the light to look down.

The position of the chandelier allowed Cheng Shuang to see almost the entire office area, and she then realized that the filing cabinets were not arranged in a crisscross pattern as she had imagined.

By utilizing the varying widths of the corridors to create visual differences, people inside would not even notice that rows of filing cabinets are arranged in a complex pattern.

She wasn't tall enough to see the whole picture, but she vaguely felt that the shape looked a bit like the six-pointed star surrounding the character '祭' in the photo.

Once she realized that this place was an altar, the little girl didn't find it hard to understand.

She took one last look at the extremely spacious warehouse office, and as the sunlight gradually filled the area, she whispered to Luo An, "Teleport off the roof."

This time, Cheng Shuang fully experienced the sensation of teleportation.

The scene before her eyes shifted rapidly, and in an instant, she found herself facing the rising sun. Then she realized she was suspended in mid-air, nearly four stories high. Suddenly, her collar tightened, and she was embraced by a black cloak behind her. As she fell, the cloak fluttered in a graceful arc.

While Zangzang's flying ability isn't great, his glide is absolutely superb.

The little girl's feet touched the ground lightly. In front of her was still the wooden building shrouded in darkness. With a twitch of her eyelids, the darkness receded, leaving only the abandoned school standing quietly in place, lonely and eerie.
