Chapter 342 Bai Xiuzhi's Identity

On the balcony of Building 123, freshly washed clothes were clearly hanging, and the sunlight shining on them created a warm and cozy atmosphere.

The four prepared to climb over the wall.

Du Jun took the lead, but he had barely peeked out when he quickly jumped off the wall again.

Sun Han stopped lifting Cheng Shuang, and the three of them turned to look at him.

"Surveillance!" he said silently.

Cheng Shuang's eyes widened slightly. "There are security cameras in the yard?"

Du Jun nodded firmly.

When the strange creatures came to scout ahead, they didn't find any trace of surveillance cameras on the path outside the courtyard. Little did they know that they had almost unwittingly walked into a trap.

Sun Han took out the guard's uniform and put it on, and Du Jun and Han Meimei followed suit.

Cheng Shuang wanted to learn too, but her height and clothes didn't match, so she simply put the clothes on outside of the monster's cloak, while she hid inside the cloak, barely helping the monster to hold the clothes up.

At least their heights are about the same.

The teddy bear crushed the key to the gate, and the four of them swaggered inside. The yard was unusually tidy and clean, unlike what one would expect from a normal residence. Because they had so few belongings, they went straight to the basement stairs.

After descending the stairs, the light was unexpectedly bright. The white ceiling above was made of a diffused material, making the entire space as bright as day.

The words "Academy of Sciences Sanatorium" were hung above a double glass door in front. The door was a sensor door that opened silently, and a person in a white coat walked out. The hem of the coat was covered with stains of an unknown color.

The man in the white coat was Bai Xiuzhi. His gaze was cold, his brows were furrowed, and he stopped outside the door, looking around repeatedly as if struck by a thought.

Cheng Shuang's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that he knew they had gotten here?

Immediately, Bai Xiuzhi took out a walkie-talkie from his white coat, and soon a hissing sound came from the walkie-talkie.

He asked a few simple questions, and the guards on the other end, who were supposed to be responsible for guarding the residential area, relayed that they hadn't seen anything unusual. Bai Xiuzhi didn't say anything more, only ordering the guards to be more vigilant.

After the walkie-talkie quieted down, Bai Xiuzhi did not return to the sanatorium, but instead walked towards the entrance of the corridor.

The four people hiding on the stairs had solemn expressions and silently retreated in unison, following his steps up one by one.

If Bai Xiuzhi has access to the surveillance cameras inside Building 123, then their retreat would still expose their whereabouts. It would be better for them to simply barge in, tear off the last unnecessary fig leaf, and expose the Academy of Sciences' conspiracy.

Han Meimei gritted her teeth. She had to rescue Li Lei today. If she missed this opportunity, she would alert him, and her boyfriend's life would be in danger.

She made up her mind, turned around and gestured to the three of them, then straightened up, ready to step out, when Cheng Shuang grabbed her hand and the little girl shook her head slightly.

Just then, Bai Xiuzhi stopped in his tracks. Someone hurriedly walked out of the sensor door and called out, "Xiuzhi, where are you going?"

Bai Xiuzhi's handsome eyes were filled with impatience. He turned around and said in a low, hoarse voice, "Bai Sha, as the vice dean, aren't you busy enough with work?" Perhaps because there were no outsiders present, Bai Xiuzhi's attitude was extremely bad.

A hint of sadness immediately appeared on Bai Sha's ordinary face. How could this elegant woman bear the repeated coldness and rejection from someone she cared about? "Xiu Zhi, I'm not..." Her explanation meant nothing to him. When Bai Sha realized this, she immediately adjusted her posture. She closed her eyes, and when she opened them, she had regained her composure. "Researcher Bai, there's a problem with Spectrum 3426."

Bai Xiuzhi's expression froze for a moment, then he frowned angrily and scolded, "Why didn't you say so earlier!" He couldn't care less about anything else and quickly turned around and walked back.

After he disappeared through the sensor door, Bai Sha slowly raised her lowered head and looked towards the stairwell.

Those dark eyes were obscure and crazed, sending chills down the spines of the four people secretly watching the scene.

The sound of her heels hitting the ground was crisp and clear, tap, tap, tap... getting closer and closer until they were just a wall away. As soon as she turned the corner, she could catch the four people lingering on the stairs.

Seemingly just to scare the little bugs hiding in the shadows watching the commotion, she suddenly stopped, staring motionlessly at the snow-white wall that blocked the stairs.

In the quiet space, a strange, soft laugh suddenly rang out. It was so faint that even the three guardians present almost thought they had misheard.

She walked slowly back in her heels until the automatic door opened and closed again.

"Has she spotted us?" Cheng Shuang rubbed her arm, which was covered in goosebumps from nervousness. The young girl was perceptive; she had formed a very strong impression of Bai Sha the moment she saw her. It wasn't a good or bad impression, but something was definitely off.

Cheng Shuang then answered her own question, confirming, "She's found us!" But she didn't go forward to confront them.

“Bai Xiuzhi’s identity is unusual,” Sun Han said softly.

“I think what we’re looking for is behind this door,” Du Jun said coldly.

Han Meimei fell silent.

Having known each other for so many days, she occasionally learned many truths from Li Lei: these companions would leave sooner or later and return to their real world.

And Li Lei...

She didn't want to think about it anymore, her voice hoarse, "Then let's go in!"

After saying that, he walked directly into the automatic door.

This time, no one stopped her.

When the sensor door opened, a flash of white light appeared, and countless enormous cylindrical glass jars stood upright throughout the space.

The tank is labeled "Nutrition Tank," with small text information below it.

The four of them looked inside and saw that the jar contained mostly people, with a very small number of plants and animals.

They are like extinct specimens, leaving behind traces of their existence in this way.

The space was incredibly large, yet there were only two people inside.

Bai Xiuzhi and Bai Sha.

When they looked up and saw them, their expressions were different. Bai Xiuzhi was surprised, while Bai Sha's expression was more complicated.

"I thought you wouldn't dare come in!" Bai Sha said calmly.

It was this nonchalance that prompted Bai Xiuzhi to look at him and ask, "Did you bring them here?"

Bai Sha gave a bitter smile, "If I said no, would you believe me?"

Bai Xiuzhi stopped talking and instead turned to look at the four people standing at the door.

"Quite interesting." He inexplicably commented with four words, took a half step back, and smiled slightly, as casually as a proper host welcoming a guest into the house. "Welcome, feel free to come in and take a look."

Cheng Shuang's heart skipped a beat. Perhaps she needed to reassess Bai Xiuzhi. His status was clearly higher than Bai Sha's, and he exuded a proactive and composed demeanor.

He didn't care that they found this place.

He might care, but when someone actually walks in, he has no qualms about it.

Could it be because of the people in the nutrient tank?

"Brother Li!" Han Meimei suddenly called out. Cheng Shuang followed her gaze and saw Li Lei's body floating in a nutrient tank not far away.

Only then did they notice that everyone in the nutrient tank was dressed casually. Although it was obvious that some people were wearing very luxurious clothes, they were definitely not ancient Hanfu.

The three exchanged a glance, becoming even more cautious.
