Du Jun wasn't impulsive; he didn't respond at all, playing with his milk tea cup as if nothing was wrong.
Little wolf cub, ha, once we rescue Brother Sun, he'll teach him a lesson about what it means to have a wolf without a stroke.
Du Lanshan stood up abruptly, growling menacingly, "Are you even human? The Death Domain is already dangerous enough, yet you insist on creating internal conflict. Is that really necessary?"
"Yes, there is!" the tall, thin woman laughed maliciously. "Especially when bullying the weak, it gives them a greater sense of accomplishment!"
Standing beside her, a boy about the same age as Du Jun stood with his hands on his hips, smiling amiably, but his words were incredibly irritating: "Sister Susu may be a bit blunt, but she's just straightforward, so I'm sure you don't mind!"
"Bullying the weak! That's all you've got!" Liu Juan sneered in disgust. She had been lying on another table, taking up two chairs, which kept her distance from Cheng Shuang and the others.
"Your attitude is wrong!" The leader's face turned cold. He looked around at the four people but couldn't notice who had spoken. After all, in the eyes of the protectors, Liu Juan was already a piece of plastic. He threatened in a vicious tone, "You should know that your companion is in our hands. We can decide whether he lives or dies!"
Cheng Shuang breathed a slight sigh of relief. The other party obviously had some chance of survival after learning about the mosaic through some channels. Combined with everything she saw in the block area, the probability of Uncle Sun being alive was more than fifty percent.
The two men and one woman who spoke looked aggressive, but the two men hiding behind them seemed much more apprehensive. Their eyes darted around, and their honest and kind faces flushed red. Clearly, they had little say in the group.
Du Lushui chuckled, leaned back in her chair, and said slowly, "Brother, is it necessary to play tricks? Tell us what you want from us. If we can help, we will. Of course, you have to make sure our companion is still alive."
"This guy's got a good eye," the boy chuckled, his tone provocative. "We're helping each other out, right?"
"Not bad!" Du Lushu tapped her fingers rhythmically as she held her milk tea cup. "There's a condition: we need to assess just how dangerous the thing you're asking us to help is. One companion isn't worth all of us risking our lives for!"
“Our demands aren’t high.” The tall, thin woman’s gaze was fixed on Cheng Shuang with malice. “We need that child!”
"It's rare to find young children among the maintainers, like in the children's play area and the childcare center. I have a natural affinity for her." The boy clicked his tongue twice, looking at Cheng Shuang without any hesitation, full of curiosity.
Liu Juan almost jumped up from her chair in excitement, but luckily no one noticed her.
Du Lanshan kept his brows furrowed, looking bitter and resentful, Du Lushui's smile remained unchanged, while Du Jun kept his eyelids down, remaining indifferent and aloof.
They didn't want to reveal Cheng Shuang's importance. The other party's purpose was still unclear. If they were coming directly for the stationmaster, then they absolutely could not have any emotional reaction.
At times like these, no one dares to challenge human nature.
There are already quite a few people in the real world who dislike strangers and harm others without benefiting themselves, not to mention those who maintain the skills.
Having repeatedly experienced extreme life-or-death crises, those with sound values may not change much, while those with warped values will likely only head down the wrong path.
"What do you want?" Cheng Shuang asked calmly. "I want to see if you have all the mosaics on our companions."
Seeing that Cheng Shuang remained unfazed, the leading man praised her with a hint of admiration, "The little guy is quite brave!"
"Those who weren't brave would have been scared to death long ago!"
Cheng Shuang was straightforward.
Unlike the other four, she wasn't as cautious. Her intuition told her that the other party's purpose was likely related to those building blocks and dolls that were alive but living a life worse than death.
The childcare center might be a smokescreen to deceive them; the real focus is the children's play area.
“Our request is simple: go to the children’s play area and the nursery and bring us something out.” The leader stroked his stubble chin, unhurriedly. “If you successfully bring it out, I will return your companion to you.”
"How should I know that my companions took a huge risk to bring out what you want, and that you won't break your promise!" Du Jun threw his milk tea cup on the table. If it weren't for Cheng Shuang, he could have kept his composure, but now they had repeatedly crossed his bottom line.
"That depends on whether you're willing to take the gamble!" The tall, thin woman affectionately linked her arm with her brother's, winking flirtatiously at Du Jun. "He's just a kid! I think your companion is quite capable and intelligent. You should be able to weigh the pros and cons of trading his life for a little kid's adventure, right?"
The provocative intent in those words was so obvious that it left one speechless.
Perhaps only a child like Cheng Shuang, with her high EQ and IQ, wouldn't be provoked into losing her temper by a few words from her.
Cheng Shuang slightly raised her eyes, not even glancing at the tall, thin woman, but only looking at the man in the lead, "You've been watching us for a while, haven't you?"
“Yes, we saw you go into the gym, but we didn’t expect it to be such a coincidence to run into you at the movie theater.” Because of Cheng Shuang’s composure, the leading man stopped bluffing and shrugged. “If you’re willing to help, I’m willing to apologize after it’s done.”
"Brother!" the tall, thin woman exclaimed indignantly, "Why should we apologize to them? It's their own fault for being incompetent!"
"Susu, stop talking!" The leading man's face darkened, frightening the woman into shutting her mouth, but he glared fiercely at the little girl.
Cheng Shuang laughed, "I don't think that auntie really wants me to go to the children's play area to rescue your companion?"
