If it weren't for the timely arrival of the strange ice water, Sun Han might have made a choice he would have regretted for the rest of his life.
It's alright, it's alright.
He excitedly reached out to hug Cheng Shuang, but the little girl wriggled away from him like a caterpillar.
Cheng Shuang said in a low voice, "Uncle Sun, the rules."
The rule is that being hugged by a ghost means you lose, but when people are emotionally agitated, especially after escaping death, they are very likely to hug familiar people next to them.
Cheng Shuang is preventing this kind of conditioned reflex.
Sun Han nodded understandingly, and while drying his hair, he recounted what he had 'seen'.
Although the young girl thought her Uncle Sun was too impulsive, she was deeply moved because he was trying to save her and was in a state of confusion after being attacked. She said, "Uncle Sun, do you think what you encountered counts as what Uncle Du said about being wary of women?"
The scene fell silent for a moment.
Sun Han clearly did not think that was the meaning.
"Children, in certain situations, do not distinguish between genders!"
Cheng Shuang: I feel offended...
The little girl puffed out her cheeks. "Okay, okay, it's a bit of a stretch, but it's always good to be cautious!"
"No problem!" Sun Han praised earnestly, "Our baby is so smart!"
Cheng Shuang: ...Why am I still a little unhappy?
The two didn't linger, after all, there was a strange man ahead of them with outstretched arms waiting for a hug.
"I'll go check on him." Sun Han told Cheng Shuang, got up, took out a sandbag tumbler and held it in his arms. He had just left when Cheng Shuang decisively stopped him.
The little girl disagreed, saying, "Uncle Sun, don't you watch idol dramas? That's how domineering CEOs hug you!"
Sun Han looked completely bewildered.
Cheng Shuang grabbed her Uncle Sun's arm and personally demonstrated. She pulled hard, using a clever trick to turn him half a circle so that his back was facing her, and hugged him.
"Look, this is the domineering CEO hug!" the little girl said with a smile. "Whether you like it or not, I'm going to hug you!"
Sun Han felt like he was suffocating. He struggled to twist his waist and tilt his head, trying to shake off the little tyrant. But the little tyrant, though not tall enough, made up for it with his imposing manner, and started chattering, "Man, you've caught the attention of me, Boss Cheng!"
"Man, you shouldn't have refused my invitation, CEO Cheng."
"Man, there's no use resisting. Sooner or later you'll end up in my arms, CEO Cheng!"
Sun Han... felt even more suffocated!
"Honey, do you know a little too much? Is it because you don't have enough homework? Or are the problems not difficult enough? Tell me, and I can solve it for you!"
Cheng Shuang immediately let go, chuckled like Du Lanshan, and tried to bluff, "Uncle Sun, I'll put something on your back."
The little girl first took out a large towel and handed it to Sun Han.
Sun Han took it, and then saw the little girl bring two large cushions, place them behind him, have Sang Sang hold them down, and then wrap them with a large towel and tie a slipknot around his waist.
Sun Han touched Cheng Shuang's damp hair, "My precious..."
"They're so smart!" they both exclaimed in unison.
"Uncle Sun, you shouldn't praise people properly, or you'll be destined to be single forever!"
"You little monkey!" Sun Han laughed in exasperation, pinched her little nose hard, and carefully walked towards the man in the high position, carrying the heavy 'shell' on his back. He then stopped when he was about two arm's lengths away from the man in the high position.
Upon first glance, Sun Han gasped in shock.
The man in front of me had only whites in his eyes, no pupils. His smile looked stiff, as if drawn by invisible lines, and his teeth were full of blood vessels.
"Hello?" Sun Han gave a polite, fake smile and waved his finger in front of the man's eyes. The man responded promptly, slowly shifting his gaze, opening his mouth, and revealing a bloody oral cavity.
His tongue was half severed, yet a voice still came from him, "Hello!"
His tone and intonation were exactly the same as Sun Han's.
Sun Han instinctively took a few steps back, his expression one of shock. He glanced back at Cheng Shuang, only to see the little girl walking towards him, carrying a teddy bear in front of her and a zombie-like creature on her back. She stopped beside him and asked softly, "Is that ventriloquism?"
"Didn't you hear him say that before? When he grabbed my leg to stop me from going forward?" Sun Han retorted.
Cheng Shuang thought for a moment, then shook her head firmly.
“It could be a skill.” Sun Han’s voice was deep. “Obviously, the others either didn’t encounter this situation, or they forgot some of the truth as soon as they left the haunted house.”
"He's a Protector too!" Cheng Shuang wasn't surprised at all. Using Protectors to fight Protectors—the shopping mall really had a lot of unexpected ideas.
"Is he dead?" she asked again.
"Not sure." Sun Han wanted to feel the other man's pulse, but the man's condition was not right. He was very agile, and several times Sun Han almost had his hand grabbed by him.
After several attempts, Sun Han gave up.
Cheng Shuang was silently communicating with the Lost Monster, unaware of his actions. After a while, she looked up and said, "The Lost Monster said he has no soul, only a slight fluctuation of spiritual power."
"Uncle, come save me! Waaah, it hurts so much!"
The man tilted his head, stretched out his arm to Sun Han, and then turned to look at Cheng Shuang, "Baby, come here, let Uncle Sun check if you're hurt?"
The two took another step back, feeling strange and frightened to hear their own voices coming from a strange man.
“It was at this moment,” Cheng Shuang said in a low voice, her brows furrowed. “The moment he spoke, his mental energy fluctuations were at their strongest.”
As soon as she finished speaking, several buzzing conversations suddenly came from the wall behind the passageway.
"What's so scary about a haunted house? My skills can defeat ghosts!"
"I'm not afraid, I'm worried that the dark environment of the haunted house will make it difficult to observe."
"Alright, we agreed to go through ten projects, and this is only the fourth one. If we back down now, would we be doing justice to Fanfan's sacrifice?"
For a moment, the back wall fell silent again.
Cheng Shuang and the other person exchanged a glance, then slowly backed away, preparing to leave.
Unable to determine whether the visitor was friend or foe, the best course of action was to avoid direct confrontation.
Unfortunately, despite their good intentions, they forgot to watch their step when they retreated. Cheng Shuang, without paying attention, stepped on the monster's cloak. Sun Han instinctively reached out to catch her, but in an instant, their feet slipped and they fell into a hidden doorway below the high place.
The tunnel inside the hidden door is cylindrical and not wide enough for one person to slide down.
Having gotten stuck, Sun Han quickly released his grip on the girl's clothes to prevent further injury from a forced pull. He then swiftly unfastened the clasp at his waist and followed.
The two landed quickly, one after the other.
Fortunately, the slope wasn't too steep, and apart from falling on my backside, I wasn't injured.
They dusted themselves off and got up, their eyes scanning their surroundings intently.
This is a prison cell.
Candle-shaped wall lamps were lit around the perimeter of the cell. The dilapidated walls were damp, and the stacked stones gave the cell a sense of age.
There is only one iron door here. The position of the wall lamp indicates that they are currently in a cell, so to get out, they must first find the key.
The two stood back to back, in a defensive posture, not only against ghosts but also against people.
