Chapter 456 Abandoned City

It didn't take long for the researchers to receive their orders and reopen the gates of Hell (the Hive), releasing the man-eating monsters.

Zombies swarmed out, attacking the streets and alleys, and humans fled in panic.

Unfortunately, they escaped the zombies' encirclement, but not the Lickers' hunt.

When Cheng Shuang woke up from her nap, the research institute was empty; death had already taken hold of her.

The only thing the little girl could be thankful for was that, because of her special circumstances, she was fortunate enough to live next to Alice and be imprisoned in the Raccoon City Research Institute together.

Unfortunately, she still didn't know where to begin in her search for Du Lanshan...

The research institute went through a fierce battle, and after most of the day, with some staff packing up their equipment and materials and safely evacuating, everything quietly came to an end.

Once Cheng Shuang, who was hiding in the ventilation duct, was sure that no one was in the corridor, she tidied up her backpack, which she was using as a disguise, and then lightly jumped down from the ceiling.

While climbing the pipes, she had already figured out where Alice was in her room, so she headed straight for her target.

As they reached the laboratory entrance, Alice's painful screams rang out.

The little girl thought something had happened and ran to the door, where she saw Alice wearing a thin white cloth and struggling to pull out the tiny connecting tubes inserted into various parts of her body.

Alice, her legs tucked in, let out a barely perceptible sigh of relief when she saw Cheng Shuang at the door. Then, sensing something was amiss, she asked cautiously, "What are you doing here?"

Cheng Shuang revealed the deliberately untreated needle marks on her limbs. "Just like you, but I escaped halfway and hid in the ventilation duct until the T-virus spread and the people in the research institute were relocated. Only then did I dare to come find you."

Alice staggered to her feet, her expression growing increasingly grave. "The virus has spread?"

"Yes, if there are no surprises, a zombie crisis has broken out outside." The girl knew that people who had just come from the laboratory bed were more vulnerable and suspicious, so she did not approach her rashly. Instead, she obediently took out a white coat from her disguised bag. "Put this on! It's clean."

"Thank you!" Alice breathed a sigh of relief, her hand trembling as she took the clothes, asking as she put them on, "How long did I sleep?"

"Not long," Cheng Shuang estimated, "48 hours."

"So you mean the virus broke out completely in 48 hours? Is that what you mean?" Alice offered her arm, "Hey, lend a hand."

The young girl half-embraced her waist, neither admitting nor denying, "At least in our city, it's unavoidable."

“The evidence is useless!” Alice said almost to herself, while Cheng Shuang shut her mouth.

Because she didn't know the answer, nor did she know the direction of the Resident Evil crisis.

"Oh, right, what about that little kid? The one with the strange pale skin?" Alice asked with concern, remembering something.

The two walked out of the corridor and quietly made their way to the entrance of the research institute, keeping their voices low. Now they were not on guard against people, but against another kind of man-eating creature.

“It will be wherever I am.” As if knowing what she was going to ask next, Cheng Shuang said directly, “Rayne and the other two were not with you and me. At least I haven’t seen them in any room that the ventilation ducts can reach.”

Alice remained silent for a moment, until she stepped out the door and was met with the devastation and chaos of the streets. She was slightly stunned. "This... is this the apocalypse?"

“Yes, the apocalypse!” Cheng Shuang nodded affirmatively.

The two split up. Alice found a rifle in an abandoned police car on the street, while Cheng Shuang found a small gun and the car keys that had not been taken in the handcuffs of a luxury car.

She swung her keys, looking somewhat smug.

Alice raised an eyebrow. "Muscle relaxants... I don't have the strength to drive right now!"

"Perfect!" the little girl said with a smile, "I have some!"

Perhaps it was the child's positive attitude that made the weak and powerless Alice feel a surge of hope to live on. She smiled, her smile not as clear as before, but still beautiful. "Alright, let's find a shop and get some new equipment."

Cheng Shuang immediately remembered that foreign countries do not have regulations prohibiting certain weapons. Her peach blossom eyes lit up, and she turned around and sat in the driver's seat, waving excitedly to Alice, "Come on, come on, let's go on an adventure together, Miss!"

The foolish child, unaware of the plot's direction, became increasingly reckless.

Alice took a long stride, sat in the passenger seat, and waved her arm, "Let's go."

As dusk fell, the two drove to a weapons store with its doors wide open.

Cheng Shuang is quite experienced in collecting supplies.

That little gun for ladies was indeed light and pretty, but it didn't have many magazines. Alice commented that it was more for show than practical use, so the little girl went straight for the weapons on the shelf and took quite a few, including the magazines.

Alice watched as she waved her hand, and many things disappeared. She turned around and went to the coat rack, first changing out of her thin white coat and putting on work pants, Doc Martens, and a tight vest.

"I need to buy a few more outfits. Alice, is there anything else you like? I'll get you a spare set." Cheng Shuang took half of the weapons from the shop; she wanted to leave some for later customers. Seeing that the clothing in the weapon shop was all durable and resistant to dirt, she quickly packed the unopened bags into her spatial storage.

Of course, she wasn't greedy; she only picked out one set of men's and women's clothing, and collected two boxes, each containing different sizes.

The shoes were packed into two boxes.

Alice watched her work quietly and asked, "Do you have other family members?" Otherwise, there would be enough women's clothes for a girl to use from childhood to adulthood, so why would she need to collect men's clothes?
