"If you don't want to smile, then don't," Cheng Shuang whispered gently. "Pelton won't want to see you forcing a smile. But don't be sad for too long either; if you're sad for too long, he'll still worry."
Tears welled in Jill's eyes. Just as she was about to speak, the passenger door was suddenly pulled open, and she nearly shot herself. Fortunately, she recognized the person in timeāit was Terri.
Terri got into the car, glanced at Cheng Shuang in the back seat, and nodded slightly. She didn't miss Jill's tears and said softly, "I'm very sorry about Peyton!"
Jill sighed and changed the subject, "Let's go to the school and pick up that child as soon as possible!"
No one expected that, as soon as the words were spoken, a roaring figure rushed towards Jill. The driver's side door had not yet been closed, so the figure grabbed Jill's neck almost without any hindrance and opened its mouth wide to bite her.
When Jill saw the face of the person lunging at her, she kicked it away.
It was Peyton; the virus caused his death and he became a zombie.
Gunshots rang out, cars drove off, and all emotions ended after the gunshots.
On the way, they met a young Black man named LJ who was hitchhiking. During the ride, he briefly recounted how he encountered a giant monster that could use weapons and single-handedly wiped out an entire special forces team.
Cheng Shuang immediately suspected that this monster was the one who killed Peyton and was lured away by Alice.
But she didn't know how to offer that advice.
It can't be attributed to movie tropes!
Meeting someone in a movie isn't necessarily fate; it could just be a connecting point in certain plot points.
With the school in sight, Jill suggested splitting up the search, and Cheng Shuang immediately raised her hand in agreement.
Terri glanced at the child, who barely reached her chest, and stammered her veto. She was even worse off than this little one; at least the other had the confidence to act separately, while she had never even fired a gun.
Terri looked pleadingly at Jill, who was the most reassuring among them.
Jill, however, clearly had no intention of compromising. She simply summarized the shooting steps in one sentence and, without giving Terri a chance to say anything more, agreed on a meeting point and left immediately.
LJ and Cheng Shuang each chose a direction, leaving Terri with no choice but to turn around and enter the nearest classroom.
Cheng Shuang had already run to the corner of the school corridor. Looking back, she saw Terri's back and her brows furrowed slightly.
The classroom was not a good choice; it was too small and the students were too densely packed. It would be too dangerous to just barge in. The only hope was that the students in the room that Terri had chosen were either participating in extracurricular activities or attending some professional classes, and were not huddled together, waiting for their prey to come to them.
But soon, Cheng Shuang realized that she had misunderstood.
Trillion's correct course of action is to go to the classroom to find Angel.
The little girl felt a slight ripple in her heart. This was their only hope of survival. Although Terri wasn't that strong, she still did her best to complete it.
Even so, Cheng Shuang never considered turning back to help Terri. If Terri didn't learn to deal with zombies on her own, a hopeless future would still await her.
Moreover, she was aware of her own strength. Without using any skills, relying solely on her combat prowess and weapons, she could at most take down three or four low-level zombies at a time. Any more than that and she would be trapped and unable to help herself.
Do things within your capabilities. Since she intends to hone herself, she cannot rely on the bear cubs for early warning and defense.
Only when one is helpless and alone can one further advance and unleash one's potential instincts.
The little girl went to the teacher's office, where there was a student handbook, which would allow her to quickly find Angela's class and schedule.
Angel's school is not large, so the number of students admitted is controlled to a certain extent. At most, there are between twenty and thirty-five students in a class. Some community schools have fewer residents, so the number of students in a class may not exceed twenty.
If Angela's class is lucky enough to have an indoor PE class, that would be even better.
The indoor sports hall has a large space and few students. Even if there is noise during shooting, the high windows can serve as a good escape route.
Cheng Shuang had considered everything she could think of. Along the way, she encountered one or two scattered zombies, which she took out from a distance with her gun. This made her even more certain of her guess.
The school must have changed during class time, as many classroom doors were closed, trapping the zombies inside. Therefore, the corridors were relatively safer.
But only to a very small extent.
Before Cheng Shuang reached the instructor's office, she first encountered a zombie dog.
A zombie dog guarded the office door, its body twisted and blood-red like a licker, resembling a skinned monster. It bared its ugly fangs, drool dripping from its mouth, its murky eyes fixed on its prey not far away, its limbs tense, ready to pounce.
Cheng Shuang slightly adjusted her rapid breathing after running, and switched her weapon to a long sword, the blade of which was modeled after a Tang sword and belonged to Liao Yuewei's collection.
At that time, Liao Yuewei took out several weapons, and the little girl immediately took a liking to this weapon whose blade was almost the same length as her.
It is a ceremonial sword among Tang swords. Because its shape resembles a seedling, it was renamed Miao sword during the Republic of China period. It is about 1.2 to 1.6 meters long. Its features include a ring pommel and double handles. It can be used as a sword or a spear, and can be used for both close and long-range attacks.
Just as Cheng Shuang twirled her sword, the zombie dog moved.
It leaped up and lunged straight at Cheng Shuang's throat.
An indescribable aura of death swept over them, mixed with a foul and chilling stench, and an indescribable ferocity that was enough to intimidate any creature that stood in opposition to the zombie dogs.
Its movements were incredibly fast, many times faster than Cheng Shuang had imagined, but the little girl didn't show any panic or helplessness. When facing a wild beast, one must never look away first. She stared intently into its murky eyes, leaned back, and swung her long sword, slashing it down at the waist.
The moment the zombie dog hit the ground, its body snapped in two, blood and entrails splattering everywhere, filling the room with a stench.
Cheng Shuang, who had fallen backward to the ground, immediately stood up using her long sword as a support. She was not as calm as she appeared on the surface.
This was the first time she had ever killed an enemy at such close range, and she felt a mix of panic and excitement.
Her legs were trembling, but her heart was pounding with joy.
The little girl's pursed lips couldn't help but curl up a little more, and then she happily took out her phone, took a picture of the zombie dog struggling with its upper body, then swung her long sword, chopped off its head, and took another picture.
She wanted to show the bear cubs, and also to Sister Juan and Sister Yuewei, that she was no longer a baby, but had successfully become a champion!
After chuckling for a few seconds, Cheng Shuang quickly composed herself, suppressing her excessive excitement. She went to the office door, but instead of pushing it open, she took out a small mirror, gently opened a crack in the door, and inserted half of the mirror...
Inside the instructor's room, several small zombies were scattered and wandering around. Through the moonlight outside the window, the bloody remains on the ground could be clearly seen.
There aren't many, but once she goes in, she'll be able to attract all the little zombies. The best way is to deal with them one by one.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. While Cheng Shuang was peering through the crack in the door looking for the best way to earn points, a pair of fierce little eyes, squeezed so tightly by teeth and gums that there was barely any space left, were secretly observing her.
