Everything remained unchanged, except for the dead trees that suddenly sprang up from the ground. As if a movie had been rewound, the trees seemed to have come back to life, standing upright in rows, perfectly intact.
The fog returned, spreading out from underfoot.
The five people stood back to back, looking in their respective directions, their minds filled with vigilance and tension.
"I suggest we don't act rashly." Da Bai swallowed, unconsciously taking Cheng Shuang's hand with her left hand and Xiao Qi's hand with her right, "so we don't get separated again." She didn't want to give the little rabbit CPR again.
"Why did you let go?" Cheng Shuang and Si Hai asked in unison.
The other three replied in surprise, "Didn't you let go first?"
The group exchanged glances, and Sihai smiled bitterly, "It seems we've all fallen into this trap without even realizing it."
“It’s not as simple as just being tricked.” Cheng Shuang denied this claim, touching her cat ears. “I now have the ability to see through illusions, but I can’t see the way out. If this is an illusion, at least it can’t trap me.”
Upon hearing this, Gong Zhu frowned, took out a card, and threw it out.
The card landed and emitted a faint glow. Soon, the light flickered, like a fluorescent pen that was about to run out of ink, before it fell weakly to the ground and returned to its original card form.
Gong Zhu picked it up and held up the card, saying, "Little Youyou is right. This is a one-time roadblock card. It can be used to set up roadblocks in strange places like mazes and illusions that won't hurt people or monsters, but will create obstacles. The drawback is that it doesn't distinguish between friend and foe; whoever touches it is unlucky." He put the card back into his spatial storage. "That's why I haven't dared to take it out easily. But now it seems this isn't an illusion, otherwise the card would have been activated."
"If it's not an illusion, then what is it?" Xiao Qi rubbed his hands, feeling uneasy. He still had two lines of poetry left in his skill. If he used them rashly, and the skill cooled down at a crucial moment, he would become a burden to others.
No one could answer his question.
Cheng Shuang, however, looked at the nearest big tree and said, "I want to climb up and take a look."
With her companion by her side, the little girl didn't need to climb by herself. Sihai supported her, and she carefully checked the branches she had stepped on.
"There were no new breaks in the branches; the little twigs I broke off were still hanging there." But most importantly, she used abilities beyond her puppetry skills to awaken a massive army of disposable puppets—"It's like a dream!"
Cheng Shuang murmured... Then, her eyes suddenly lit up and then narrowed again. The little girl looked anxiously at the adults who had heard her murmur and were looking at her blankly, feeling lost and helpless. "How do I wake myself up from my sleep?"
If her analysis is accurate, the music does indeed have a hypnotic effect, but the direction it takes is completely different from what they guessed.
Lively and cheerful music can actually help people sleep, no wonder none of them are able to get closer to the truth.
Worse still, this kind of sleep achieved through external means is like taking a powerful sleeping pill; it's not easy to wake up on your own before the time is right.
If the music on the Ferris wheel never ends, they will probably remain trapped in a dream forever until they die.
After a moment of silence, Da Bai broke the stillness with a blank stare, "How about we try having nightmares? Create scary scenes to scare ourselves awake?"
"Pain?" Xiaoqi continued, "No, I said I was bitten all over, but it didn't hurt as much as I imagined! It seems that pain won't work."
Cheng Shuang glanced almost imperceptibly at Xiao Qi's still bleeding wounds, pursed her lips, and didn't say anything to discourage her.
Not feeling pain doesn't mean there's no injury. Being seriously injured and dying in a dream and then affecting reality is perhaps not a new phenomenon in the realm of death.
Gong Zhu's answer was well thought out: "Drink water! Drink enough to wake yourself up!"
The others all looked at him, wondering if such a self-destructive method was feasible.
"How about I give it a try?" Xiao Qi scratched his head. At present, his skills were the weakest. If drinking water could solve the team's problem, why not?
"I'll go with you," Gong Zhu said in a deep voice. He was worried about the injured Xiao Qi, firstly because he couldn't prove whether Xiao Qi's body was truly intact and had the power to awaken his companions, and secondly because he couldn't fully trust Xiao Qi yet.
The five decided to stay put. Cheng Shuang and the other two waited for Gong Zhu and Xiao Qi to finish drinking the water. Seeing their resigned expressions, the young girl kept her mouth shut and, out of kindness, offered no objection. Their first reaction after drinking the water was a desperate search for a restroom. This dream was too self-aware; she felt that neither of them could hold it in. Besides, in a dream, maybe they were just drinking loneliness…
But the young girl knew she was powerless. If she could only offer denials and disappointment without coming up with a second solution, the entire team's atmosphere would become depressed.
She believes that a person's mindset is particularly important in dreams.
Cheng Shuang glanced at Si Hai with worry, just as Si Hai was looking at her from the side. Although she couldn't understand Si Hai's mosaic-like eyes, she knew that Si Hai had probably thought of this as well.
Sure enough, the two boys, who were drinking heavily from large bottles of mineral water, drank until their bellies were bloated and their backs were almost bent backward at a 45-degree angle, but they still didn't feel the urge to relieve themselves.
Sihai rubbed his temples. "It's no use. You just dreamed that you were full from drinking too much water. It doesn't mean your bodies were actually saturated with water."
Almost the instant they understood the true meaning of the Four Seas language, their stomachs visibly flattened.
It was all for nothing!
The five sat in a circle, looking at each other. According to the dream, they could be invincible, so even if the Great Demon King came, they would not be afraid. However, none of them could get out.
"No wonder the game rules are 'Escape from the Ferris Wheel'! Everyone's asleep inside. Escape? Where can we escape to?" Gong Zhu grabbed a pebble from the ground and threw it far away. The others didn't say anything. Complaining was useless; the maintainers had already all gone to heaven.
Without prior arrangement, those who had cards were quietly taking stock of which cards they could use.
Unfortunately, none of the items in the inventory are related to the current predicament.
Gong Zhu was about to say something when he looked up and saw Da Bai and Xiao Qi opposite him. His expression changed slightly, and he quickly looked away, focusing on his own waist and abdomen. It was perfectly normal there, a stark contrast to the scene where Da Bai and Xiao Qi's waists and abdomens were bound by something invisible.
But Gong Zhu couldn't rest easy, because he realized that Da Bai and Xiao Qi were completely unaware of the changes in their bodies. Apart from their faces slowly turning red, everything was quite calm.
Time could not withstand their continued wasting.
When Sihai and Cheng Shuang noticed Gong Zhu's unusual behavior, Da Bai and Xiao Qi had already begun to react. They clutched their throats, their expressions extremely painful, "It's so suffocating, I can't breathe!"
Da Bai subconsciously wove an oxygen supply device for herself, but it was completely useless. Frustrated, she threw the device away, fell to the ground, and breathed heavily.
Then, Gong Zhu suddenly opened his eyes wide. He clenched his fingers around his neck, his eyes bulged out, and his face turned frighteningly red. He couldn't utter a single word for a long time.
Sihai suddenly stood up, "Oh no!"
Cheng Shuang pursed her lips. Her body was being attacked in reality, and if things continued like this, she wouldn't be able to hold out for long.
