All the headfish excitedly sped up their pace.
A fierce battle unfolded before Cheng Shuang.
Their sharp teeth and enormous size became weapons to defeat their enemies. Whenever one was injured, the other mermaid heads would swarm over, greedily tearing and swallowing flesh and blood, their throats emitting victorious cries.
The green river water was mixed with red, its color extremely eerie, so thick and turbid that it obscured Cheng Shuang's vision.
The little girl knew she shouldn't continue swimming, otherwise she might get caught up in an unnecessary killing.
As she swam back the way she came, she called out to Luo An in her mind.
She needed to make sure everyone at the convenience store was there. That human leg didn't belong to any of her partners!
Cheng Shuang's feet, which had been treading water, suddenly stopped. She silently repeated, "Is Du Jun not in the city?"
Not only did Du Jun fail to reunite with Liu Juan and the others, but he has also been completely out of contact for the past 48 hours.
Cheng Shuang no longer wanted to leave; she wanted to go back and confirm whether the owner of the human leg was alive or dead.
Without hesitation, the little girl turned around and swam quickly. However, before she could reach the center of the fight between the human-headed fish, a black shadow, as if it had already discovered her whereabouts, blocked her way.
Through the murky water, Cheng Shuang managed to make out the person.
With a dark, thin fish tail and a skinny human upper body, it was Liu Liu, the mermaid boy.
With a flick of her wrist, a weapon card made by Liao Yuewei was revealed between her fingers.
Because the card is small and completely undetectable, it is perfect for surprise attacks.
The little girl floated peacefully and serenely in the green river. Compared to the somewhat thin boy opposite her, she seemed more like a water spirit. Her face was expressionless and calm, as if she was not surprised at all by the sudden obstacle.
The merman boy stared at her with his dead fish eyes, then slowly parted his lips to reveal sharp teeth. His mouth opened and closed, 'Found you!'
It had expected that the human would panic and flee after it spoke, but to its surprise, she simply stared at it quietly, without moving.
The mermaid boy was somewhat bewildered; his small head, now that he had become a mermaid, was not big enough to allow him to think things through.
In order to get what it wants, it has to take the initiative to get closer.
Cheng Shuang saw that the mermaid boy had a pair of dead fish eyes and looked like he was in great distress. He swam a little closer to her more cautiously than she had.
The little girl imitated the demon baby, baring her teeth at it. The mermaid boy leaped backward with his fishtail, jumping a considerable distance away.
Seeing this, she swung her limbs and quickly bypassed the mermaid boy, swimming towards the place where the human-headed fish were fighting.
Although the mermaid boy was startled, it quickly recovered and caught up with Cheng Shuang, grabbing her ankle and making gurgling sounds in its throat, as if warning or trying to confide.
The icy touch stimulated her skin, causing Cheng Shuang to shiver. Without hesitation, she stabbed back, and in the blink of an eye, the weapon card transformed into a dagger, gleaming with a sharp luster in the eerie green, aimed directly at the mermaid boy's wrist.
Before the mermaid boy could react, the dagger got stuck in the bone of his wrist.
Blood gushed from the wound, and it stared at the injury belatedly. Only after Cheng Shuang pulled out the dagger did it let out a loud, long, and piercing cry like that of a dolphin.
Seeing its dark skin turn completely white, Cheng Shuang smiled with satisfaction, her mouth opening and closing silently, "Don't mess with me!"
The mermaid boy flinched, but faster, he pressed his other hand against the wound and swallowed all the spilled red blood.
“I… I meant no harm!” The merman boy slowly opened his mouth, trying to express his friendliness, and repeated, “I am different from them, I have no ill intentions.”
Cheng Shuang didn't want to get entangled with it, so she asked directly, "Whose legs are they eating?"
The mermaid boy's lifeless eyes showed no emotion. "Dead food in a petri dish."
Cheng Shuang narrowed her eyes slightly. Could the petri dish be the water tank from which they escaped? Yes, she killed the giant fish, which is why it was cooked into fish pieces.
"Who ate the body with the most flesh?" Cheng Shuang asked.
This time, the mermaid boy refused to answer, only saying, "Come back with me, and I'll tell you!"
It reached out its other thin hand, attempting to grab her wrist.
Cheng Shuang smiled with her hands behind her back. She was just worried and confused. Du Jun shouldn't be here. Even if he was, he should be whole, not a leg that people were fighting over.
The broken leg was cleanly severed, not bitten off by sharp teeth.
She and the bear cub fell into the water while trying to avoid the impact of the water tank. It's likely that Du Jun wasn't in much better shape either; if he had fallen in, he would have naturally gone downstream.
There are only two possible outcomes if someone is found by a homeless person: either they are seriously injured and imprisoned while unconscious, or they are imprisoned as food.
He is most likely in a coma, otherwise he wouldn't have stopped contacting Sihai.
Having ruled out the identity of the person who owned the thigh, the little girl focused on the person in front of her and examined him closely.
The mermaid boy claimed to be different from other mermaids. From Cheng Shuang's perspective, apart from having a normal human upper body, he was no different.
Therefore, she analyzed that the so-called difference was most likely because it had a rationality and mind that was different from wild beasts, which is why there was one less of it among the figures fighting for human legs.
Cheng Shuang lowered her eyes, realizing that she definitely possessed something that the merman boy craved and needed, a craving that surpassed even her appetite.
Thinking of the Little Mermaid's blessing, and then looking at the Little Mermaid boy's appearance, she twitched her fingers slightly, her expression innocent, "If you take me to another village, I might believe you."
