Chapter 577 Elevator

An elderly woman with gray hair stood in the elevator, her hairstyle exactly like the curly hair of every other grandmother in the neighborhood. She wore a floral shirt and white trousers, with a pair of reading glasses clipped to one of her breast pockets, giving her a somewhat retired cadre-like air.

The old lady had a gentle expression and seemed very relaxed and content. When she saw someone, she naturally moved further inside, making room for the doorway.

Cheng Shuang secretly rubbed her fingertips together behind her back, choosing not to go in, but instead taking a step back.

The old lady waved to her, "Little girl, which floor are you going to?"

Cheng Shuang didn't speak easily. She retreated again with a blank expression, trying to get away from the elevator, but the old lady had already seen through her thoughts.

Just as the doors were closing automatically, an old hand gripped her wrist tightly with astonishing strength, pulling her directly into the elevator.

The door closed, and the old lady acted as if nothing had happened, pressing herself against the back wall of the elevator. The slightly reflective material distorted Cheng Shuang's shadow, making it look like a funhouse mirror.

The little girl licked her lips; she had glanced at the wall earlier but hadn't seen the old woman's shadow on it.

What does this prove?!

Was the old woman a hallucination?

Is the old lady not human?

Cheng Shuang leaned against the doorway and glanced at her wrist, which already bore two purplish-blue handprints. This didn't seem like the kind of damage an illusion could cause.

Even without meeting the old lady face-to-face, she still had a feeling that the old lady's expression was different from before. It was as gloomy as a dead person, coldly staring at the elevator door, exuding an icy aura.

At this time, only the 10th floor button on the elevator was lit up, while the buttons for the other floors were all grayed out.

Cheng Shuang lowered her eyes, watching the old lady's every move warily. After the 10th floor arrived, she made no attempt to leave.

Sure enough, the old lady reached out her hand again, seemingly intending to forcefully push her out of the elevator.

The little girl pouted slightly and let the old lady push her shoulder without resistance. Using the force of her fall out of the door, she pulled back and grabbed the old lady's arm tightly.

An elderly person and a child staggered out of the elevator.

The elevator doors closed slowly and began to descend.

The old lady stared wide-eyed, her double eyelids drooping, seemingly too surprised to comprehend what was happening. Only after Cheng Shuang let go did she yell and try to rush back to the elevator to press the button.

Unfortunately, he couldn't move after taking just one step.

The old lady turned around fiercely, only to see the frail-looking, pale-faced girl grabbing the hem of her floral shirt and smiling at her with her eyes crinkled, "Which floor are you going to, Grandma!"

He returned that sentence to her verbatim.

The old woman let out a piercing scream, and in the blink of an eye, the human head transformed into a hideous, fat fish head.

Its enormous mouth opened wide, revealing jagged, sharp teeth. Between the wide gaps between its teeth, a fishy smell and saliva emanated from it, enough to bite off a human's head in one bite.

Cheng Shuang remained calm and simply stuffed a large watermelon into her mouth.

Then, without blinking, he swiftly swung his knife and chopped down the bighead carp that had a watermelon stuck in its throat.

The fish head fell to the ground, but the human body was a step too late and collapsed to the ground, blood and watermelon fragments scattered everywhere.

It twitched twice instinctively, and then transformed into a black fish body and tail in front of Cheng Shuang.

Suddenly, a whistling wind came, and Cheng Shuang turned around abruptly. She saw that the long corridor had somehow turned into a bridge, which was about two meters wide and its length was just the distance to the two elevators opposite the lobby.

Normally, this stretch of road would only take a minute to walk at a brisk pace, but because the area below the 10th floor is like an empty abyss, the 2-meter-wide bridge gives one the illusion of being on the verge of collapse.

After all, there are no railings or handrails or other protective measures on either side.

Cheng Shuang remained standing. She looked up at the ceiling. Normal floors are between 2.5 and 3 meters high. Even if the government building is an apartment building, it is no more than 5 meters high. But now the ceiling is 10 meters high, with intricate green patterns covering it, making the already dim light even more obstructive and difficult to see clearly.

The little girl held onto the elevator door and kicked the fat fish head down.

After a long while, no sound of anything hitting the ground or falling into the water was heard.

Instead, a few faint whooshing sounds could be heard in the air.

Cheng Shuang carefully discerned the source of the sound, only to hear it getting closer and closer. Immediately, she licked her lips, took out her electric bicycle, quickly dragged the fish to the back, and rode it with the fish towards the elevator on the other side.

Almost the instant the electric bicycle started moving, the elevator doors behind it opened, and green vines sprouted out, two of which were still wrapped around the fat fish head, which was quickly rotting under their entanglement.

The vines chased after Cheng Shuang, moving much faster than the electric bicycle. The little girl looked at the ceiling with concern, and sure enough, the ceiling twisted slightly, and the dark green patterns gradually took on a three-dimensional shape, slowly extending branches that swept towards her from all directions, accompanied by a whooshing sound.

It's clear that if you get hit by them, you'll be half-dead, if not killed. Once you're bound, you'll likely have no power to resist or struggle.

Cheng Shuang gritted his teeth, and when the vines above and below were almost within reach, he suddenly ordered Luo An to cut the ropes binding the fish's body.

The fish rolled twice on the bridge, about to fall into the abyss.

The vines on the ground immediately retracted their branches, wanting to devour the fish tail all by themselves, while the vines in the sky were not willing to be left behind.

The two sides collided, suggesting a struggle for power.

Cheng Shuang focused on driving the car in the middle of the road, while Luo An, who had returned to her shoulder, reported on the situation.
