Cheng Shuang silently waved to Liao Yuewei and Siyue, signaling them to retreat quickly, as the monster's skill was about to cool down and they couldn't afford to delay.
If the serpentine monster has high mental strength, it is easy to break free from the zombie monster's suggestions at the last moment.
Liao Yuewei and April exchanged a glance, confirming that the snake-shaped fish wouldn't be able to recover for a while. They put Luo An down and tiptoed out of the huge office.
Time is up!
A mournful sigh came from behind. Cheng Shuang stared intently at the snake-like monster that kept grinning as if it were laughing wildly. She followed it to the window and saw it change from a fish shape back to a human shape. It picked up a chair, smashed the brown French window with its teeth bared, and then searched the floor with a ferocious expression.
Cheng Shuang placed the body of the woman in formal attire in the spatial storage on the ground at the right moment, and the snake-shaped fish immediately pounced over, dragged the body, and threw it downstairs.
After that, it frantically broke open the locked drawers of the filing cabinet and searched for the documents inside.
Soon, it found what it wanted, pulled the documents out of the brown paper bag, and began to laugh arrogantly again. This time, the laughter was audible, a strange and eerie "hehehe".
Cheng Shuang quietly peeked over and saw three thin pages. The first page was full of words she didn't recognize, and the third page, looking at the back, seemed to be... circles?
Cheng Shuang gave Luo An a wink, and the documents in the snake-like monster's hand were replaced by a fleeting figure.
Immediately, Luo An grabbed Cheng Shuang's arm, and the two of them appeared at the entrance of the emergency exit in an instant.
Holding their breath, Liao Yuewei and Siyue immediately opened the emergency exit door, and the three of them filed in. At that moment, the elevator dinged open, and several harpy figures rushed out, drawn by the commotion.
"Why would Secretary Cao jump off a building!"
"Exactly, dressed like that!"
"It was a transformation!"
"Why would you transform in broad daylight?!"
"Where did Old Zheng and Sister Xu go?"
"I saw them this morning... Ah, Guan San, what are you doing?"
Whispers drifted from the group's mouths, but a scream shattered the leisurely atmosphere.
"You killed Secretary Cao? How dare you?"
"Why wouldn't I dare!" the man roared wildly. "Without Zheng and Xu, I'm the boss here! I can grab the promotion spot! I'll leave this boring place and go somewhere bigger and farther..."
"What nonsense are you spouting!"
"What about those outsiders? Sister Xu promised to keep them here to cut meat."
"Outsiders are mine, they're all mine!"
"You idiot! Tell me, where did you hide them?"
"Where? Of course, it's a place you can't find! Ha!"
They confirmed that the snake-like fish was still indulging in its wild fantasies and had successfully led its kind astray. Cheng Shuang and the other two went straight downstairs to the first floor.
The freak guarded the hallway door, and Luo An guarded the stairwell entrance. Before the others gathered, they unfolded the map and began to study it carefully.
“This looks more like a topographical map,” Liao Yuewei said softly.
April nodded in agreement. If it really was a map, how could it lack the scenery of a small town?
Cheng Shuang stood on tiptoe, gazing at the painting, and asked curiously, "Why is there a landscape map hanging here? And it's a silk painting, with a human head and a fish, which doesn't seem like a monster with artistic talent."
Liao Yuewei and Siyue quickly lowered their arms to prevent the little girl from having to stand on her tiptoes to increase her height, but the little girl stopped them as soon as they started to move.
"Don't move, don't move." Cheng Shuang half-squatted down and said with surprise, "There are patterns on the back too." She turned her head and asked Luo An, "Were they copied together when you copied them?"
Luo An nodded immediately.
Only then did the little girl feel at ease and carefully turn the painting over.
"The same?" Liao Yuewei frowned slightly.
“It’s different!” April chuckled, pointing to a spot with her slender white fingertip. “Look, this spot has a halo.”
She was referring to the summit of a mountain range. At first glance, the mountain range, with its varying heights and undulating terrain, lacked any particularly distinctive features. However, under April's guidance, that inconspicuous halo of light instantly transformed the landscape from its apparent height.
Cheng Shuang's eyes lit up. "Could it be..." She drew the shape of a light bulb in the air.
Liao Yuewei: "I think it might be an entrance or exit to the outside world."
Cheng Shuang did not refute, after all, the wanderers could not detect the information of the return ticket, so even if there was a light bulb, they should not be treated specially. Compared with the place of ticket source she mentioned, Sister Yuewei's entrance and exit were more appropriate.
In April, she squatted on the ground, studying the route in the drawing. She used an ordinary pen to draw the course of the river on the paper, and then deduced the location of the lake and the town from the course of the river.
Cheng Shuang's eyes were dazzled as she watched as her sister, April, quickly wrote down the place names and directions in the areas she had circled.
“Assuming the wooden bridge in the town is to the east and the stone bridge is to the west, then… this halo of light is in the northwest of the town. It would take a long detour along the river, and you would have to go through…” She looked at the landscape map, “…through that forest.”
Light footsteps sounded, and April shut her mouth. The three of them stood up and looked towards the stairwell.
Du Jun stepped forward first, followed by Liu Juan and Sun Han. Their expressions were so-so, indicating that they hadn't made any additional discoveries. Si Hai, the Du brothers, and 'Feng Jiakang', on the other hand, looked relaxed.
Seeing everyone squatting in the hallway, Du Lanshan immediately patted Feng Jiakang on the shoulder and exclaimed heartily, "Making amends for his mistakes, this kid has a really good eye!"
"Kang Kang really did a great job this time," Si Hai added, praising him as well.
Feng Jiakang chuckled, took out a new light bulb and handed it to Liao Yuewei in a flattering manner, then scratched his head and smiled brightly, "No problem, no problem, I just happened to go to the bathroom."
