Chapter 60 Learning

Although Cheng Shuang had great trust in her doll, she was still worried. The little girl stood on tiptoe, eagerly looking into the door. If Du Jun hadn't been holding her by the collar from behind, she would have been completely inside.

After a moment, the little girl breathed a sigh of relief, "The room was given to the team leader for a rescue mission."

"Rescue?" Ignoring how the zombie had communicated with Cheng Shuang, Hei Zishan was utterly puzzled. "Who do you want us to rescue? Are there any survivors inside?"

Lie Fu decisively said, "Rescue whoever you see."

"The zombie monster wasn't attacked after it entered," Cheng Shuang added, analyzing carefully. "Of course, it's possible that different species react differently, so we still need to be careful when we go in."

"Haha, I know, I know, little adult!" Hei Zishan winked at Cheng Shuang teasingly, then punched with both fists, making muffled thuds. "I'll go first."

This time, no one stopped him. Kuroko's boxing gloves have excellent deceptive abilities, unlike Hunter's fan, which is simply a precise counterattack. Therefore, he is well-suited to be the first to explore the unknown room.

Cheng Shuang remained in the middle, with Du Jun in front of her and Lie Fu behind her. As she followed the boy into the room, it was not as dark and gloomy as she had imagined; instead, her vision suddenly opened up.

The four of them appeared in a lush green grove. The sun was shining brightly, and they could hear birds chirping and the leaves rustling in the wind.

"Where is everyone?" Hei Zishan asked himself, "I'll climb the tree and see." With that, he scrambled up the nearest tree like a little monkey, put his hand to his forehead, looked around, and finally curled his lip and shouted to the three people on the ground, "Nobody here."

"Wait!" Suddenly, Hei Zishan's expression changed drastically. "Behind you!"

A gust of wind swept by, and the little girl, who had developed a habit of rolling on the spot, easily dodged it with a forward roll. Du Jun turned around, drew his bow, and attacked directly, while Lie Fu waved his fan to cover him.

The guy who was initially attacking at close range got his pants caught on a tree branch and was yelling from the tree, "Wait for me! Wait for me! I'm coming right away..."

The little girl looked up and saw a hideous face with rotten and deformed features. One eyeball hung in its socket, and every time it stretched out its hands to sweep towards Du Jun, that eyeball would dart back and forth on its cheek—enough to drive anyone with OCD crazy.

"Holy crap, is it a zombie? Chop off its head, stomp its hands!" Hei Zishan shouted at the top of his lungs, still struggling with the tree branch.

With sharp eyes, Lie Fu spotted another decaying figure, its arm dangling with bits of flesh, staggering towards Cheng Shuang.

He angrily gestured for Hei Zishan to shut up, "What the hell are you talking about? I already said the mission is to rescue him!"

Fortunately, the little girl nimbly got up and dodged behind a tree, avoiding the attack of the rotting monster, which then began to chase her around the tree.

Cheng Shuang paused as she reached for the teddy bear in her backpack, then took off running short distances around the trees, occasionally using low branches as natural obstacles to stop the pursuer.

The little girl was short and had short legs, so she couldn't run as fast as an adult. But fortunately, the rotting monster was clumsy and had an unstable base. Compared to the rotting monster, neither of them could outrun the other, and they maintained the original distance.

Cheng Shuangteng, having used his martial arts skills, could still glance back to avoid being caught off guard. But upon seeing this, he was filled with bewilderment, both amused and exasperated.

The rotting monster reeked of blood and gore, leaving a trail of blood and flesh as it walked. It stumbled and fell, then picked up its severed hand and roughly shoved it back into the water to continue its pursuit. Its unwavering determination was astonishing, as if it had suddenly become a highly sought-after prize.

The little girl, thoroughly tired of running around like this, touched her head in confirmation and exclaimed "Ah!"

She put the red ribbon on the teddy bear's hair.

While dealing with the rotting monster, Du Jun didn't forget to keep an eye on Cheng Shuang. Seeing that the little girl cleverly used the natural environment to hide and could occasionally rest before continuing to run, he wasn't worried. Anyway, the child's physical fitness wasn't good, commonly known as lack of training, so running around more wouldn't hurt.

He and Lie Fu worked together seamlessly, avoiding attacking the rotting monster's most vulnerable spots, thus diverting its attention and preventing it from always darting towards the tree where Hei Zi Shan was.

They figured it out: one of the two rotten monsters had his eye on Cheng Shuang, while the other had his eye on Hei Zishan.

Lie Fu had already spoken up to remind Hei Zi Shan not to come down yet.

Hei Zi Shan had already assessed the situation and realized that the attack power of this room was far lower than that of the first room, so it didn't really matter whether he was there or not. He simply stayed in the tree to watch the show and occasionally helped Cheng Shuang scout out the rotten monsters who were taking shortcuts.

The fan that struck the rotting monster's ankle spun back and was skillfully caught by Lie Fu. Seeing it kneel down with a thud, he quickly leaned closer to Du Jun and whispered, "They retain some intelligence and seem to have some kind of obsession."

"The question is, are they the targets to be rescued in the mission?" Du Jun asked rhetorically.

Lie Fu couldn't confirm it, so he shrugged. "What about Cheng Shuang's gloomy weirdo?"

Du Jun looked around and shook his head. "You take over for now."

"rest assured!"

Upon hearing this, he lowered his bow and arrow, rushed behind Cheng Shuang, kicked the rotting monster that was baring its fangs and claws, sending it sprawling to the ground, then scooped up the little girl with one arm and ran to the tree where Hei Zishan was, urging, "Hurry up and climb!"

Cheng Shuang looked at the tree, which was thicker than her waist, and tilted her head innocently to look at Du Jun, "Little brother, I don't know how to climb trees!"

The straightforward Du Jun boy uttered a single word: "Study".

Okay!

The little girl rubbed her hands together without any emotion, took a step forward, and crashed into a tree with a scream.

She touched her bright red nose, her dark, grape-like eyes glistening with tears, and childishly punched Uncle Tree with her hand.

Cheng Shuang didn't turn around to hug the older brother and feel wronged. She rubbed her hands together again, gritted her teeth, and... hugged him. Her short limbs clung to the tree like a sloth.

Uncle Tree: ...Climb, child, climb!

Du Jun shot off half of the rotting monster's scalp with an arrow. The monster turned around, trying to block the arrow, but failed. Its turbid, bloodshot eyes revealed a hint of reluctance. In the end, Cheng Shuang was more attractive. It unwillingly gave up its scalp and staggered towards the tree.

At this point, Du Jun had already given her some pointers on tree climbing techniques. Hei Zishan, who was on the tree, braced his legs against the trunk and stood upside down, trying to help the little girl.

As Cheng Shuang's health improved, her athletic ability gradually returned. Although she couldn't compare to many athletes of the same age, climbing trees wasn't difficult for her.

The little girl was strong; she didn't care that her palms were worn raw, and finally she successfully reunited with Kuroko.

The two struck each other with their palms. Just as Hei Zishan was about to congratulate her, he saw the little girl's pupils contract and her face filled with fear and anxiety.

He turned around abruptly and saw a flash of light flying toward Lie Fu at an extremely fast speed.

"Hunter, behind you!" His voice became sharp and shrill with fear, startling the birds in the trees to peek out from their branches.

Lie Fu seemed oblivious to the danger and instinctively looked at him, "What?"

The flash was already behind my head.
