Cheng Shuang was right. Du Jun looked up and saw two familiar faces, then watched helplessly as they brushed past each other and continued running in the opposite direction at lightning speed.
Should we call them back?
Du Jun shook his head; now was not the time.
Suddenly, he covered the little girl's mouth, lowered his body, and swiftly stretched out his long, powerful legs, pinning the rotting monster who was trying to stand up to chase after him.
Seeing the rotting monster struggling desperately and trying to overturn Du Jun several times, the little girl closed her eyes in a dilemma, made up her mind and put her arm in front of the rotting monster's nose, just like a donkey running forward with a carrot dangling from it. It actually quieted down and stared blankly at the white and tender but too slender arm in front of it, lost in thought.
Cheng Shuang breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, the rotten monster didn't have the habit of eating people.
But... ugh, it's too dirty and smelly!
She simply held her breath, untied the red ribbon from the teddy bear's fur, and casually tied her hair into a bun to distract herself.
Unfortunately, it had no effect. And before long, not only her, but also Du Jun's face began to turn pale.
The rotting monster standing right next to them exuded a disturbing odor, making the two people, who were breathing the same air in the same area, feel like they were about to collapse and couldn't hold on any longer.
The little girl smoothed out the goosebumps on her arms, pouted in disgust, and took out a tissue from her pocket to wipe away the rotting monster's drool that smelled of decay.
Just as Cheng Shuang couldn't take it anymore, a faint, delicate fragrance, accompanied by a barely perceptible tobacco scent, wafted from not far away. Someone casually mocked, "What a bunch of idiots. They've been running around in circles for nothing but a small room. What are they running for?"
A white-haired man, smoking a cigarette, strolled leisurely as if he were in his own backyard, with Jie Suzi beside him and two more men behind them.
These two must also be protectors, as they are scanning their surroundings with sharp eyes.
They remained calm and unhurried, clearly having already noticed the unusual activity in the grove. They took a few steps and exchanged a few words, obviously waiting for two panicked individuals to walk right into their trap.
"Take a good sniff, there aren't many cigarettes left!" Qing Nai took a deep drag of his cigarette, the smoke carrying a lemon-like aroma. His narrow eyes narrowed, flashing with ruthless coldness. "Once we're clear-headed, we'll try to ambush you again."
Cheng Shuang secretly took a deep breath of the lemon-scented air. Her father didn't smoke, and the little girl was rarely bothered by secondhand smoke. She had no idea that the fragrance was unusual; she just thought to herself that it smelled quite nice.
Du Jun raised an eyebrow but did not stop her from being curious.
This is the second time Aona has smoked in public. The first time was in the maze of the banquet hall, which was a non-smoking area. The line waiters never gave him any trouble for it, which shows that this is not ordinary tobacco that is harmful to humans, but some kind of prop evolved from a skill card.
Behind Qingnai, a burly, crew-cut, dark-faced man pounded his chest loudly, replying in a deep, booming voice, "Don't worry, Brother Qing, my skill cooldown time has been accelerated, reduced from five hours to five minutes. I'll definitely catch that thief who stole your skill card and kill him!"
Qingnai's lips twitched. He was afraid of this kind of straightforward guy who had no scheming and couldn't keep a secret.
With just a simple sentence, the special nature of cigarettes was revealed.
"Stop talking, be careful there might be people lying in ambush around." Since the dark-faced man still had some use and had been fooled into obeying his orders, he could tolerate the man's stupidity to a small extent.
Qingnai stubbed out his cigarette and put it back in his pocket. Cheng Shuang observed him closely; his pants were flat, not like he had other cigarettes in them. Only the outline of a cigarette butt was sometimes clear and sometimes blurry as he moved.
Du Jun remained vigilant against the sudden emergence of the rotting monster and the resulting complications, and his mind was filled with doubts. According to the rules of the previous room, a room should only accommodate one team, but now the information they had previously deduced was completely shattered.
Could he boldly guess that there are two teams in this room, meaning there are two missions?
The little girl squeezed Du Jun's hand, raised her head in Qing Nai's direction without saying a word, and silently made a smoking motion.
Du Jun followed her gaze to Qing Nai's pocket, where the short cigarette butt seemed to grow longer with each step he took...
Repeatable skill cards?
For example, the red ribbon that Cheng Shuang possesses is reusable. Even though it is of a low grade, it is still very rare because it has no backlash side effects and can be disguised as an ordinary item so that it will not be noticed by others. It can catch people off guard and prevent them from being greedy.
The little girl quietly wrote four words on the ground: 'Mission, Obstacle!'
Du Jun nodded slightly. Cheng Shuang's intuition was always very sharp, and nine times out of ten, what she guessed was true.
The four of them were tasked with the rescue mission, while Aona and her group of four were probably tasked with the opposite.
The little girl wrote two more words on the ground: 'Protect?' The question mark was very large.
Du Jun looked at her in confusion, only to see Cheng Shuang point at the rotting monster.
The boy instantly understood the girl's thinking.
Aona and her group must have entered earlier than them, which would have allowed them to hide in advance and accurately detect their movements upon entering, thus enabling them to launch a sneak attack. Does this mean they had already discovered the Rotting Monster's existence? On the contrary, they not only did not attack the Rotting Monster to obtain the Green Box in advance, but they also avoided them, as if they knew that other teams would appear and compete with them.
Why didn't Aona kill the Rotting Monster?
