The Metropolitan Police Department's matter was resolved simply. Because it involved three children, the police did not make things too difficult for them. After all, there was no trace of the three leaving through the door on the surveillance footage, which alone was enough to determine that it was an unsolved case.
The police have encountered far too many unsolvable mysteries, such as causing trouble in a morgue, which is hardly a big deal.
Of course, the two families paid a fine as punishment for their negligence in supervision.
As the group left the police station, Cheng Shuang suddenly felt a tightness behind her. She lowered her eyes slightly and then naturally moved closer to Yumi, who was admiring herself. Using the small mirror Yumi was fiddling with, she adjusted her angle and saw a uniformed man standing at the entrance of the Metropolitan Police Department, staring at them expressionlessly.
This man was the police officer who was injured on the day Tanaka escaped from prison.
Cheng Shuangxin understood, smiled silently at Youmei, and let go of her hand.
It seems that no matter what they do or say, the other party will keep an eye on them because of even the smallest doubt.
It wasn't surprising. If it were her, she would also be extremely cautious, preferring to kill the innocent rather than let the guilty go free when facing an enemy.
Since it was the weekend, the Akasaka family decided to take the children camping in the forest to relax.
Yumi had to go to art class, so she said goodbye to the two of them with great reluctance, and asked Cheng Shuang to take more pictures of the forest scenery for her to use as material.
Throughout the day, the Akasaka couple never let their child go out alone. Akasaka's mother took Cheng Shuang and her father took Qian Li. Although they had less freedom, Qian Li had a lot of fun. His father was always at work, so it was rare for him to have a chance to spend time alone with his father.
From that day on, the Akasaka couple started taking their child to and from school. Perhaps it was because of the adults' concern, but a week later, no ghosts or monsters came near.
However, Cheng Shuang discovered a small patch-type listening device on the sole of Qianli's worn-out sneakers after a physical education class one day.
She remembered that these were the shoes she wore on her way to the Metropolitan Police Department.
So the other group of maintainers suspects the Akasaka family?
The little girl pretended to accidentally kick over Yumi's shoe, and sure enough, there was a sticker stuck to the sole.
She recalled that they hadn't talked about ghosts or monsters in the past few days. Children are forgetful; they forget the past as soon as they encounter something new. Of course, if anyone had been seriously injured or died in the morgue incident, these things would probably have become nightmares, unforgettable for life.
She didn't remove the listening device; there was no need to alert them. It seemed they hadn't obtained any useful information, since sneakers were usually left at school and only taken home to be washed on weekends.
However, Cheng Shuang still told Du Jun in advance to avoid him being targeted by the other party and being caught off guard.
Back home, she checked all her belongings and, after confirming that only the soles of her sneakers were faulty, sent text messages to Du Jun and Liu Juan.
Sihai has run into some trouble. All his electronic devices have been locked, and he can only contact Liu Juan one-way via a public phone.
The next day, Cheng Shuang received a reply from Liu Juan with a headshot attached. She had arrived in R country and was staying at a hotel near Cheng Shuang's school, next to the bus station.
After school, the girl deliberately entered the hotel under the pretext of using the restroom, and briefly exchanged glances with Liu Juan in the hotel's coffee shop.
For the past two weeks, Liu Juan's life has been much calmer than Cheng Shuang's and the other two's, and she has a very good complexion, with a rosy and radiant glow.
To Cheng Shuang's surprise, her sister Juan's husband was incredibly handsome, with phoenix eyes that seemed to have natural eyeliner. He was cold to women who asked for his contact information, but when he looked at Juan, the deep affection in his eyes was irresistible.
The young girl gasped, not because of the man's striking good looks, but because she saw the same affection in her sister Juan's eyes.
Cheng Shuang's gaze then slid over Liu Juan's slightly protruding waist, and as she stood up, Cheng Shuang's pupils suddenly contracted.
Wasn't she newly married and pregnant? Could it be a shotgun wedding? Otherwise, how could her belly have grown so large in such a short time?
She remembered a classmate's parent who, when pregnant with their second child, had a flat belly even at three months of pregnancy.
I need to talk to Sister Juan as soon as possible.
Seeing Cheng Shuang walk towards the restroom, Liu Juan refused Qing Lang's offer to accompany her and slowly followed her.
Upon entering the restroom, she immediately spotted the little girl waiting by the sink. After not seeing her for half a month, she instantly broke into an excited smile.
Cheng Shuang opened all the stall doors, but there was no one inside. She forced a smile, then gestured for Liu Juan to be quiet. She listened closely to the bathroom door to make sure no one was eavesdropping before pulling Liu Juan into the stall.
Even so, the little girl remained cautious and silent. She took out her smartphone and quickly typed out the question she wanted to ask in her notebook.
Upon seeing the words typed out, Liu Juan's cheerful expression immediately vanished. She ruffled the little girl's hair, took out her phone, and replied.
Cheng Shuang: "Why is your belly so big? Is the pregnancy real?"
Liu Juan: "The issue of the child's father's race."
Cheng Shuang: "Demon?"
Liu Juan: "The wolf demon can basically be ruled out as another group of maintainers."
Cheng Shuang hesitated for a moment. Even if he wasn't a protector, he could very well be a homeless person. She steeled herself and continued to ask, "Sister Juan, are you tempted?"
A flash of grief crossed Liu Juan's eyes, but she quickly shook her head firmly: "It's fake, it's not me!"
Cheng Shuang understood what she meant; she was merely occupying the wolf demon's wife's body, not the real woman. However, Sister Juan didn't directly answer her question.
Liu Juan was tempted!
