Chapter 678 Nine-Story Building 25

Cheng Shuang stood guard at the door. Seeing that the two of them hadn't noticed anything through the window, they silently turned around and greeted her before heading off to the backyard in different directions.

The abandoned house doesn't occupy a large area, so it's highly unlikely that ten opponents would all gather in the backyard, given their limited hiding places.

Her gaze lingered on the two tightly closed doors inside the room. She took a half step back, concealing herself in the shadows. Then, with one hand on the door frame, a black cloak that almost blended into the darkness flowed out from between her fingers. The cloak moved along the shadows inside the room and quickly and cautiously slipped through the bottom crack of the inner door of the side room.

The side room was about 20 square meters, and the furniture was immediately apparent: a dressing table with crooked drawers, a dirty little tea table, and a red sandalwood canopy bed that exuded a luxurious yet overly old feel. In a dusty room, the bed was almost too clean.

The black and red gauze curtains hung low, vaguely revealing the image of the bed—and indeed, no one was there.

But that's precisely why it's even more surprising.

The whole house was filthy, except for the canopy bed, which looked like it had been carefully cleaned and maintained every day, making it stand out too much.

The zombie slowly floated up along the edge of the bed, its body blending into the black gauze curtain, completely disappearing from sight, until it passed through the curtain and approached the inside of the bed at close range...

Through her senses, Cheng Shuang saw a dense swarm of insects nestled on the bed. She frowned slightly and decisively went inside to investigate further.

The gauze curtain was lifted, revealing a bunch of insects about the size of a fingernail, resembling spiders but with much longer segments of limbs than ordinary spiders, nestled on the bed, intertwined and overlapping.

If someone suffers from trypophobia, they would definitely feel their scalp tingle and goosebumps all over at this moment.

Although Cheng Shuang had been trained to be indifferent to insects, their existence in this situation was definitely contrary to common sense.

So she took out the insecticide and was about to spray it when she heard a sharp scream coming from the backyard.

She abruptly turned her head to look out the window, and in the blink of an eye, a chilly wind suddenly crept up her back, and a fine layer of sweat seeped through her skin even faster than her clamoring instinctive alarm.

Cheng Shuang instinctively bent her knees and jumped, and in just two seconds, she leaped out of the room like an arrow, putting distance between herself and the canopy bed.

Once they confirmed that the location was relatively safe, the little girl hiding behind the door peeked out and was dumbfounded.

The room looked brand new, with a new dressing table, festive paper-cut window decorations, and red candles standing on a low table, bringing a touch of warmth to the room.

The entire bedroom was furnished like a young lady's boudoir.

Most importantly, two beautiful brides dressed in red wedding gowns were sitting side by side on the canopy bed. They were both beautiful and looked alike. They were shyly looking at the door, as if they could see through the door and into the little groom hiding there.

Cheng Shuang swallowed hard and turned to leave. But before she could react, the door was abruptly closed by two girls dressed as maids. They greeted her with smiles, their powdered faces displaying endearing smiles.

"Young master, don't be shy, come in quickly! Don't keep the eldest and second young ladies waiting!"

Cheng Shuang: ...Thanks for the invitation!

The scene in the living room had changed. A sumptuous feast was laid out on the round table, and bright red lanterns hung in the air, illuminating the dishes and making them look even more appetizing. Two enormous red candles, carved with golden "double happiness" characters, flickered incessantly, casting long shadows of two maids.

Cheng Shuang silently retreated towards another tightly closed door, while the maids seemed completely oblivious to her wariness, still smiling and patiently approaching, "Young master, you've already married into the Zhu family, why be so shy? The young ladies still need offspring to inherit the Zhu family! Hurry back to your room! A moment of bliss on the night of love is worth a thousand pieces of gold!"

"If you're so reserved, don't blame us for personally escorting you to your bed!"

What indecent words! I really want to call the police!

The little girl's strong heart, weathered by time, trembled slightly. Let the child go! She's still a baby!

With a thud, she bumped into another tightly closed door. At that moment, the door slowly opened, and she turned around abruptly. The scene inside the room was exactly the same as the room where the two brides were, except that there were no brides in front of the canopy bed, but two grooms who looked exactly alike.

Cheng Shuang turned her head with difficulty. The maids approaching her had now become two young boys, their words slightly altered to be perfunctory.

"My dear wife, don't be shy, come in quickly! Don't keep the eldest and second young masters waiting!"

"My dear wife, you have already married into the Zhu family, why be so shy? The young masters still need offspring to inherit the Zhu family! Hurry up and go back to your room! A moment of bliss on the night of passion is worth a thousand pieces of gold!"

"If you're so reserved, don't blame us for personally escorting you to your bed!"

Cheng Shuang: ...Am I destined to marry into another family? Ugh!

The little girl looked at the newlyweds with disdain, who had simply changed their bride's dress into a groom's dress. They didn't even change their expressions; they had no sincerity at all!

So she deftly closed the door and launched a verbal attack on the servants nearby, "You all get along so well, why don't the four of you live together!"

Why harm innocent people!

"Don't talk nonsense about marrying into my family. Ask the police first. I'm just giving you a friendly reminder: anyone who tries to take advantage of me could face a minimum of three years and a maximum of the death penalty!"

The two boys' faces immediately changed, and they reached out menacingly, trying to grab Cheng Shuang. However, what awaited them was an overwhelming, pungent smell.

Their eyes were stung by the fine mist of liquid, and their throats were choked by the foul smell, making it hard to breathe. Their screams were stuck in their throats, and then a flash of fire rushed towards them.

Just as the piercing screams from the backyard echoed through the living room, Cheng Shuang put away the insecticide and lighter, coldly watching the two humanoid monsters who had been sprayed in the eyes by the insecticide and then attacked by flames.

In the firelight, their skin burst open inch by inch, the whole scene resembling a person being chapped by intense heat, or as if aliens were bursting out of their bodies, crawling out of the shattered skin like tiny spiders the size of fingernails. Before the insects could scatter, the flames burned them to ashes.

It turns out that the servants were actually a combination of spider monsters disguised as humans.

She immediately retreated warily to the living room door, but the door she had pushed shut opened even faster.

The two grooms, their faces covered in makeup, looked at her with resentful expressions.

Their faces flickered in the candlelight, sometimes bright, sometimes dark, their smiles and resentful expressions flashing across them like a film reel stuck in time, repeating the two expressions over and over.

How could you be so heartless and ungrateful!

How could you be so ungrateful!

Two humanoid monsters sang out, their resentful voices echoing in the room, creating a unique melody that mingled with the spiders' screams as they burned.

They stretched out their hands, painted with red nail polish, as if making a final plea, but the arms peeking out from beneath their sleeves were as black as charcoal. Cheng Shuang, stunned by the mournful singing echoing from all directions, stood rooted to the spot, her heart pounding wildly. At that moment, she seemed to understand the sorrow of two sisters (or brothers) forced to marry the same man. Her steps grew heavy, and a feeling of sympathy and grief made her no longer reject their approach…
