A young couple couldn't contain their emotions and embraced and kissed. This happy and sweet atmosphere greatly infected everyone. As long as they survived, they would be able to see their relatives and friends. After experiencing all kinds of life and death hardships, there was no more exciting news than this.
But just as this expectation arose, a cold, mechanical voice immediately echoed from the void.
Congratulations to all participants for successfully reaching the finish line of the beginner track and receiving a Nintendo Switch Online pass. Please form teams of four to five people to complete the following mini-games together. Team time: twenty minutes.
Twenty minutes is too short a time and must not be wasted. The others obviously thought of this as well, and their relaxed expressions all turned serious.
Cheng Shuang was acutely aware of her situation; no one would want to team up with a child—the risk was too high. So she didn't waste time asking around, but obediently sat down, studying the silver-white card that had suddenly appeared on her chest.
The teddy bear in her arms had vanished without a trace, and a shadow fell over the little girl's delicate face.
She tugged at her fingers, muttering angrily, "Being naughty again!"
Everyone wore this so-called pass around their necks without fail, and in return, their gifts were 'taken back'.
This inexplicably appearing card had no attached buttons; it simply stuck to the clothing. The top of the card read "Nintendo Switch Online," followed by smaller print containing the user's name, age, and other basic information, along with three strangely placed squares at the bottom.
While chatting with someone, Wu Qian glanced at Cheng Shuang with some hesitation after being prompted by her boyfriend.
The little girl keenly sensed it, looked up and smiled at her without any hesitation, her delicate face showing no trace of tension or fear.
I don't know whether to praise this child for being innocent or scold her for being ignorant!
Wu Qian avoided eye contact by tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. She had barely escaped death and reunited with her boyfriend; she didn't want to burden her good-natured boyfriend further because of her.
Cheng Shuang lowered her eyes, seemingly oblivious as she continued to knead her slender fingers.
Perhaps the last shred of conscience in her heart had not been completely extinguished. After whispering with her boyfriend for a while, Wu Qian hesitantly walked over, squatted down and gently reminded Cheng Shuang, "Shuangshuang, I've already formed a team, and it's full. You should hurry up and find other uncles and aunts to help you. Don't just sit here."
Cheng Shuang looked up at her, then smiled again, revealing her teeth, "Sister Wu Qian, it's so good to see you here. Are you dead too?"
Wu Qian's face immediately darkened.
How come this child has become so bad at speaking!
People caught up in horror games are most afraid of hearing the word "death".
Wu Qian wasn't hardworking or attentive at work, but because she was good at maintaining appearances, and Cheng's parents were worried that their youngest daughter would always bother the staff, they often turned a blind eye to her laziness or sneaking food. Cheng Shuang, on the other hand, was usually well-behaved and sensible, with a sweet tongue, so this was the first time she had ever been so disrespectful.
Wu Qian let out a sneer, stood up, and looked down at her with a condescending gaze. Her eyes could no longer feign friendliness; instead, they were cruel and vicious as she said, "Do you think I need to care that you're the boss's daughter here? Pshaw, with your health, you'd better not cause trouble for others! No one will want to team up with a little girl with a heart condition. Without a team, you can just wait to die!"
She left angrily after speaking, and no one knows how she explained it to her boyfriend. The man also looked at Cheng Shuang with great dissatisfaction.
Cheng Shuang didn't care at all. On the contrary, she could understand Wu Qian's choice. She only had one boyfriend, and the more burden she had, the less hope she had of surviving. People are selfish. Wu Qian had never been very kind to her, the boss's daughter. At most, she would praise the child in front of her parents to make her look good.
The little girl had seen Wu Qian steal or eat from the store under the pretext of her more than once, but she never exposed her. It wasn't because she was kind or weak, but because she didn't want her parents to worry about her. They had already put in too much effort to find her sister...
The air fell silent for a moment. Some people might have felt a pang of pity for Cheng Shuang because she was a child, and they might have struggled with their thoughts. However, thanks to Wu Qian's malicious propaganda, those who didn't want to bring their children to play in a world where people could die at any moment immediately looked away, fearing that they would be bothered by the child if they looked at her for even a second.
Compared to conscience, life is naturally more important, especially since she is a sick and weak child with no relation to them. Even without their help, she probably wouldn't have lived much longer.
Similar thoughts lingered in the minds of the participants and eventually solidified.
Liu Juan had assumed that Cheng Shuang would find the group because someone she knew was looking after her, so she didn't want to get too close and take advantage of the young girl. The result was truly disappointing. After hesitating for a moment, she sat down next to her without any hesitation and gently asked, "Do you know her?"
"Ha!" The little girl wrinkled her nose childishly and sighed with feigned maturity, "Hypocritical adults! It's clearly an excuse, yet they still insist on being polite. Why bother!"
Liu Juan, both amused and exasperated, gently ruffled the little girl's hair and soothed her, "It's okay, stay with me. You're so smart, we'll definitely pass!"
Cheng Shuang nodded obediently, "Thank you, Sister Liu Juan. Don't worry, I won't hold you back!" Then she leaned close to Liu Juan's ear and whispered as if sharing a secret, "Sister, can you count how many participants there are?"
The little girl exuded warmth, and although her face was somewhat pale, her spirits were high, making it impossible to guess that she had any health problems. However, her excessively thin body hinted at something amiss, especially her limbs exposed outside her pajamas, which were so thin they resembled those of a patient suffering from long-term malnutrition. Liu Juan remembered that it was these skeletal arms that had firmly pulled her back in that critical moment. Even if everyone else considered the child a burden, she shouldn't have thought that way.
