Chapter 11 Dream

Wang Lingyi was practicing calligraphy at the table. Although she thought that her husband's deep affection and loyalty were probably just illusions and there was no need to expect anything, at this moment, looking at the bowl of black medicine in front of her, she was still afraid. In the end, a longing rose in the girl's heart, hoping that her husband was there.

Even if she could only see a glimpse of his figure through the window, it would be fine. Wang Lingyi had originally wanted to invite her mother and sister-in-law over, but her mother-in-law, Yun, was not happy about it. She was satisfied with this daughter-in-law, but she disliked Shen, saying she was too aggressive. Why did she ask her to come? Whenever Shen sat there, she got a headache and her heart was pounding.

Seeing her mother-in-law's disapproval, Wang Lingyi didn't bring it up again. Her mother-in-law said, "You're the head of the Marquis's mansion now. It's not right to ask your mother-in-law to come in for everything." Wang Lingyi said, "Yes, I understand."

Wang Lingyi practiced calligraphy for a while, then looked up, turned around, and whispered to Huang Xiang. She wasn't allowed to ask for Mother's help, and she couldn't panic and cause chaos, so she had to ask for help at the last minute.

Finally, she calmed down and decided that no matter how difficult it was, she would go to the Marquis' Mansion.

Then he smiled and said to the judge, "Judge Zhang, thank you for your hard work. I was a little overthinking and worried just now, so I'm sorry to have made you laugh."

The judge saw a faint smile on her lips, like the spring breeze in April spreading across the sky and earth, and couldn't help but smile as well: "Madam Hou, this bowl of medicine is for strengthening the essence and invigorating the qi."

Less than half a minute after Wang Lingyi finished the first bowl of medicine, the second bowl arrived. This was the medicine for miscarriage. This time, Wang Lingyi drank it without hesitation. The judge took her pulse again and then left her outside, leaving her to the female doctor.

Huang Xiang summoned Xuan Mo and Xuan Qing, asking them to return to the Wang residence to report to Madam Wang. She had overheard the judge telling the Yun family that they should prepare some hundred-year-old ginseng, suggesting this was a dangerous matter.

Bicui, Chizhu and the female doctor were busy preparing hot water, clean cotton cloth, medicine and food.

Qingdai called a servant from the middle gate. Seeing it was the eldest maid Qingdai, the servant hurried to the front yard and came back with the reply: "Master hasn't come back yet. But the master has already returned home."

Qingdai thought for a moment, then called Xuanfei and asked her to go to the farm. She also called Xuanling and told her to keep an eye on the young lady's room in the inner courtyard.

Young Marquis Jiang Heng slept uneasily. He had a dream. In it, Chun Liu was simply banished to the manor. Six months later, Wang Lingyi discovered that he had been protecting Chun Liu and had been withholding her medicine. Furious, she ordered someone to flog Chun Liu and force-feed her the same poison.

He stopped people from touching Chunliu and asked Lingyi to go back. He promised to treat her well and not have anything to do with Chunliu, but asked her to let Chunliu go and give her a place to settle down. As long as she let Chunliu go, he would agree to everything she said.

Unexpectedly, Wang Lingyi was very tough. She said that she didn't want his kindness, and she didn't want anything from him. She could divorce him, or even get a divorce letter, but she wanted Chunliu to pay back the debt, pay for the murder with her life, drink the same poison, and pay for her child's life.

Then, their marriages were irrelevant, and he could have stayed with his sister Chun. Or she could have gone to the police. He slapped Lingyi and scolded her. He was so angry. She wanted a divorce, a divorce letter, and Chunliu took poison to abort the baby. How had she become so unreasonable and crazy?

Lingyi fell to the ground after being slapped by him, and had a second miscarriage. The imperial physician said that the last miscarriage due to poisoning was a narrow escape, but after this miscarriage, Lingyi would never be able to have children again.

He felt guilty and spent the whole day with Lingyi, but she no longer smiled or spoke. He bought her countless precious jades, clothes, jewelry, and other novel and ingenious gadgets, just to make her smile and talk to him more. But she remained silent.

One night, Lingyi suddenly burst into tears in her dream and hugged him tightly. At that moment, he was so overwhelmed with joy that he couldn't speak. He hurriedly hugged her back, but he heard her crying and murmuring in her dream: "My child, I'm sorry. You came to me twice, but I couldn't protect you. Take me away. I want to be with you." His whole body froze.

He was truly terrified Lingyi would leave, and he was truly heartbroken. He begged her not to leave. Lingyi simply replied that she wouldn't live past thirty anyway, and two miscarriages had left her even more debilitated. If she didn't take the initiative, she'd be gone soon anyway. He hugged her and cried bitterly. She said she didn't understand why he was crying, as if it gave her the illusion that he still loved her.

He wanted to say it wasn't an illusion, but then he heard her say that if it wasn't an illusion, how could someone who loved and cherished her go to great lengths to defend someone who had poisoned her? He was speechless.

Chunliu came to him and cried in front of him, saying that she was afraid and that she didn't want the young marquis to be embarrassed because of her. But he was only thinking about Lingyi.

Lingyi had only cried in front of him once, and that was when she collapsed in a dream. Normally, even after she had lost her children twice, even after she could no longer have children, even after she died, she had never cried in front of him.

He suddenly felt like a jerk. He remembered how lovely Lingyi was as a child, how charming she was with a smile. She was obviously a healthy and bright girl, and he really was a jerk.

Jiang Heng didn't finish his dream because he was woken by Xuan Fei. The moment he woke up, he was a little glad that he didn't continue. He always felt that there was a greater misfortune behind him that he couldn't bear.
