Chapter 13: Exposed

Chunliu had been waiting for the young marquis to come for the past three days, and was feeling anxious when she saw Luoquan, the young marquis's servant, and Qianyun coming with a few people.

Luoquan handed Chunliu a bundle and said, "You're going on a long journey, so change into these clothes." Qianyun also said, "Sister Xia Mo has got my permission and packed a lot of your things in the carriage. Miss Chun, let's leave as soon as possible."

Chunliu asked blankly, "Where are you sending me?" Luoquan said, "To the farm in my hometown." Chunliu gritted his teeth and said, "Jinyang County?" Luoquan nodded.

Chunliu asked again, "How are the rain-inducing and fog-clearing services?" Luoquan remained silent. Qianyun said, "Even after being slapped with a stick in anger, he still couldn't get out of bed."

Chun Liu whispered, "I would rather you beat me with a stick, no matter how many times you beat me, but you won't let me serve you anymore."

Luoquan couldn't help but ask, "Chunliu, how could you do such a thing? How could you do such a treacherous thing as betraying your master?"

Chunliu said nothing. How could they know her sincerity towards me? She was willing to die for me. But I was engaged, and I still talked and laughed at that woman like that. That woman still gave me a cold shoulder, and I still lowered myself to coax her.

Chun Liu hated it to death. She hated it day and night. She made an excuse for herself: the master wanted to do great things, and this sloppy woman must have delayed him. This woman was not worthy of being the mistress. That's right, that's it, she did it for the master.

Seeing that she remained silent, Qian Yun also said, "Even if you admire the master, then you should serve the master well and be devoted to the mistress. The lady saw that you were a good person and suggested that you become the master's concubine. This is your right path. Why did you go astray and do such a thing? How can the master tolerate you?"

Chun Liu said nothing. She had served the master since he was young. He was her master. Why did she need another woman's approval to serve her master? She was obviously the one who was with the master first. Even the old marquis and the old lady were satisfied with her. If only they could stay like this forever, she would stay by her master's side. But the master was engaged.

Seeing that she didn't say anything, Luoquan said, "You are overthinking, but your thoughts are wrong. Go change your clothes quickly."

Chunliu took her clothes to change. Unpacking the bundle, she saw the kind of top and trousers commonly worn by women working on the farm, along with thick-soled cloth shoes. Although new, they were made of coarse cotton. After a moment's pause, she finally changed out of her lilac brocade outfit and the embroidered cloud-soled shoes.

He came out and said to Luoquan Qianyun, "I won't let Liu'er serve me anymore, but I will always be Liu'er's master. Liu'er is leaving, so please kowtow to me from afar. I wish you good health and happiness." After saying that, he knelt down and kowtowed.

Qianyun took Chunliu away. Luoquan watched them go and heard Chunliu ask Qianyun from a distance, "Is Xiamo taking over my job now? Is Xiamo serving me?"

Qianyun said, "Xia Mo is also an old lady in my room. Although you were the head of my room before, Xia Mo is also a first-class maid, so it is natural for her to be promoted."

Chun Liu, however, was filled with resentment and worry. Xia Mo was so careless, how could she possibly serve me well? This girl was a good help, but now she's in a new position. I wonder if I'll be able to use her properly. It's okay. After this, I'll let me come back eventually.

The young marquis returned to Lanting Garden in a depressed mood. Xia Mo said, "Luoquan has returned from an errand and is waiting for a reply outside."

Jiang Heng said, "Let him in."

Luoquan reported the details of how Qingliu had been sent away. Jiang Heng said, "Send a message back to Jinyang, saying Chunliu won't be coming back. Find a good match for her there."

Luoquan had been with his grandfather for a long time and had seen a lot of things. He always felt that their grandfather was not really in the right mood towards Chunliu. He had been suspicious for a long time, so he took the opportunity to ask about it. He replied, "But Chunliu said in front of everyone that she was pregnant. Even if she had an abortion, she would have to find out more about it if she wants to find a better one."

Jiang Heng put down his teacup: "She's pregnant? She had a miscarriage? What happened?"

Luo Quan said, "The rumor I heard in the front yard seemed to be that the old lady from my in-laws came that day. She wanted to beat Chunliu with a stick, but Chunliu was shouting that she was pregnant. It would be better to ask Xia Mo about this." After all, Xia Mo was in the backyard, and she was the eldest maid living in the same room with Chunliu.

When Xia Mo came and told him about it, Jiang Heng was so furious that he wanted to beat Chun Liu to death. How dare he do that? He only just learned something that everyone thought he knew.

After calming down, he instructed Luoquan, "Go find a female doctor and ride on horseback to catch up with Qianyun Chunliu and the others. Have the doctor examine Chunliu. If she is indeed pregnant and miscarried, find out who the man is. If that man is a family member or one of the shopkeepers, send them both to Jinyang. It will also be a match made in heaven."

He then instructed Xia Mo, "Go to Fangfei Garden and tell the lady that if she is available, ask a maid and a female doctor to go with you."

Luoquan was stunned by this order. Did this mean Chunliu had lied? Because the young marquis usually treated Chunliu differently, and even protected her this time after poisoning her, everyone believed it. It was still me, Luoquan, who had to see that this wasn't the case.

Xia Mo was also a sharp-witted person. She'd already sensed something was amiss. Chun Liu's poisoning occurred during her period. Although Chun Liu was imprisoned, she'd visited her when her master ordered food and supplies delivered. Chun Liu had even asked for her menstrual bag, so why did she later reveal she was pregnant? She immediately understood the nature of the errand and hurried to Fangfei Garden.

After hearing what Xia Mo said, Wang Lingyi said, "Qingdai, you and a female doctor should go with them."
