Chapter 97: Day One Ends

After three hours of hard work, Yezi had cut down all the palm leaves she could find on the island. When she returned to the well, the dry branches that Reba had collected were piled up to half a person's height.

These were all dried plants that fell down on their own after being found under those trees.

Without wasting any time, Ye Zi quickly built a simple, half-person-high, A-shaped shelter. It was only slightly more comfortable than sleeping on the ground, but the important thing was that it was windproof.

On our first day on the island, conditions were limited, so this was the best we could do.

He lit a fire, handed the fire starter to Reba for safekeeping, cut a steel fishing line about a meter long, tied a small wooden stick to one end, picked up a machete and a speargun, and headed to the sea.

When they arrived at the beach, Yezi took off her short-sleeved shirt and shoes, and walked into the sea wearing only her pants.

As for Ye Zi's figure, it's just so-so. Although he's been filmed by drones all the time, he's gotten used to it.

After taking off his clothes, his muscles weren't very obvious; instead, you could see a layer of fat, but he still gave off a very strong impression.

Ye Zi did not demonstrate her swimming ability. She simply walked into the water step by step until the seawater reached her chest. Then, she took a deep breath and squatted down.

The sun was setting, but the underwater conditions were still clearly visible.

This was the first time Ye Zi had seen the sea, and she had to admit that there wasn't much to see near the shore.

The corals and various animals that live on the reefs are not at this distance.

After preparing the harpoon, Yezi began shooting fish, letting go of the small ones and only targeting those the size of her palm or larger.

Soon, a palm-sized sea bream appeared in front of Ye Zi. She raised the harpoon lightly, aimed at the sea bream, and released it. The harpoon easily pierced through the sea bream's body.

After retrieving the harpoon, Ye Zi threaded the steel wire fishing line she had brought through the fish's gills, with a wooden stick tied to the other end so it wouldn't slip off.

The sea bream's body was pierced, leaving some blood in the seawater, which quickly spread after mixing with the seawater.

The leaf remained still, and soon fish, drawn by the scent of blood, came to its side.

Some small fish even swam around the leaves and towards the sea bream that he had strung up.

Ye Zi didn't mind and aimed her harpoon at another fish, firing again.

Reel in the fish, pierce its gills, charge the harpoon, and fire.

Ye Zi squatted in the water and repeated this action until the air in her lungs was almost expelled, then she got up and came out of the water to breathe.

Looking at the fish string on the leaf, there were already five palm-sized sea fish on it.

Taking advantage of the fact that the blood remaining in the seawater from the five fish she had caught could still attract some sea fish, Ye Zi adjusted her breathing, took a deep breath, and squatted down again.

When Ye Zi emerged from the water, the number of sea fish on the fish string had increased to eleven.

Unsatisfied, Ye Zi adjusted her breathing and squatted down again.

However, the third attempt only yielded three fish, as the air in his lungs had been completely used up.

He turned and walked towards the shore, then stopped where the water was up to his waist, and began to clean the fish.

The way Ye Zi shot fish left the viewers in the live stream speechless.

Holding your breath for seven or eight minutes, squatting in the sea to shoot fish—this is truly the first time I've ever seen such an operation.

After Ye Zi cleaned the fish, she carried the fish skewers ashore and returned to the well. By then, Reba had already boiled the water.

The fish has already been washed in the sea, so it can be grilled directly without needing to be washed again with well water. In addition, the fish meat still has seawater residue after being washed with seawater, which is also a way to obtain salt.

Simply take a few branches, thread them through the fish's mouth, and stick them diagonally above the fire. This method of grilling fish takes a little longer, but it won't burn the fish.

After placing the grilled fish on the stove, Ye Zi took the pot off the fire and set it aside to cool.

The leaf that Reba had drunk from wasn't thrown away. Since only coconut meat was left, the leaf was cut in half with a cleaver, and two bowls were made.

On the first day of survival, since we were eating grilled fish, we didn't need chopsticks, and the coconut shell bowl was only used for drinking water.

After the grilled fish was ready to eat, Ye Zi picked one and handed it to Reba, and took one for herself as well.

The grilled fresh seafood tastes really good. When you bite into it, there's no extra flavor at all, just that fresh, chewy texture with a hint of saltiness.

Reba was so busy eating fish that she didn't even have time to talk.

They ate while blowing on it, giving the impression that it was so delicious and they couldn't wait to eat it.

Ye Zi ate slowly and deliberately, pondering what to do next.

A sudden burp startled Ye Zi from her thoughts.

Ye Zi stared intently at Reba.

As darkness fell, the firelight reflected off Reba's face, making her blush even more when Ye Zi looked at her.

Yezi looked at the fish roasting by the fire. There were four left. Besides the two she had eaten, Reba ate half of the one in her hand.

"It was so delicious, I couldn't resist," Dilraba said shyly, blushing.

"It's okay, there's plenty in the sea, eat your fill."

"I'm already full, there's nowhere to put it," Dilraba said, raising her hand to indicate that she had eaten almost to the point of her throat.

Ye Zi stuck the half-eaten grilled fish back into the fire, then peeled open a coconut, cut off one end with a cleaver, and handed it over, saying:

"Now that we're full, let's fill in the gaps."

"Okay." Reba happily took the coconut and sipped it.

Ye Zi picked up the grilled fish again, and asked while eating:

"Reba, what kind of shelter do you want?"

Dilraba paused for a moment, then asked:

"Can you even choose a shelter?"

Ye Zi was also unsure:

"It should be possible. The most important things for survival are just a few: shelter, water, food, and fire."

We have wells for water, food in the sea, and fire is also available. The only problem left is finding shelter.

"To win the game, shelter is certainly important, but the key is to make sure it's comfortable."

Dilraba thought for a moment and said:

"I don't know either. Whatever kind of shelter you set up, that's the kind of shelter I'll live in."

Ye Zi nodded. He hadn't decided yet, but one room per person was a certainty.

After dinner, it was completely dark. By the light of the fire, Ye Zi made herself a simple, sloping shelter, with palm leaves under her.

Reba slept in the A-frame shelter that was set up during the day, with palm leaves as her bed.

No need to take off your clothes; having a layer of palm fiber is much better than sleeping directly on the ground.

After chatting idly for a while, Ye Zi began weaving a fish basket using the vines used to bind palm leaves.

While cleaning fish in the sea, Yezi realized that it was a waste to just throw away the fish entrails. If they were used to bait the fish, they would probably attract some sea fish to come and feed.

Even if the fish trap doesn't catch them, the main purpose of using the leaves is to create a feeding area, and then squat in the water to shoot the fish.

With food, more fish will gather, and with more fish, there will be more choices of leaves and more opportunities.

Even if he doesn't get anything, all he's wasted is a little leisure time and a few vines, so it doesn't matter.
