Chapter 10: Kneeling

After he finished speaking, a hint of pride flashed in the eyes of Zhang and the others, but they also looked worried, and shouted that they would go and serve people some summer-cooling soup.

Xia Tong looked at the group of people steadily, and pursed her lips, "If that's the case, then my granddaughter will go and kneel with mother."

After saying that, he walked out of the inner room.

"Hey, why is this fourth young lady so stubborn?" Zhang shook her head slightly, "I don't know how the fourth sister-in-law taught her daughter. She is so stubborn that she doesn't even listen to you. How can she have any regard for our Xiahou Mansion?"

Everyone was talking at once, but the old lady didn't say anything. She glanced at her and Aunt Liu beside her immediately followed her out.

The scorching sun at noon could make people faint from the sun. Qing'er, who was outside, saw her master coming out with a bad look on her face, and she knew that things were not going well. But before she could say anything, she saw her master actually kneeling down.

"Tong'er, what are you doing? Get up quickly." Liu's expression changed and she pulled her hand with a look of disapproval.

"Mother!" Xia Tong still knelt there motionless, her back straight, "You are being punished, how can your daughter stay out of it!"

"Girl, you are weak. You will be burned by the sun in such a strong sun." Qing'er knelt down anxiously.

Xia Tong glanced at her mother with a serious expression, "Since grandma wants to punish us, then let's punish them together. You don't need to say anything more. You should understand my daughter's temper."

Punish her. The more cruel the old lady is, the more likely she will instigate her father to divide the family as soon as possible!

Liu's face was also full of anxiety, but no matter what she said, her daughter refused to get up.

It was not until then that Nanny Liu came out and saw Xia Tong really kneeling in the courtyard. How could such a delicate body withstand such scorching sun?

"Fourth Miss, you'd better get up quickly. It will be terrible if you get sunburned." Madam Liu leaned over and advised earnestly.

Everyone was trying to persuade her, but Xia Tong still stood straight, looking straight ahead, "If grandma doesn't forgive mother, I will have to accompany her to be punished."

Under the scorching sun, the girl's fair face was already covered with sweat, but she was so stubborn. Aunt Liu tried to persuade her, but seeing that her persuasion was futile, she could only sigh and go into the house.

As a member who had once undergone military training, this little bit of sun was nothing to Xia Tong. She was just worried about her mother. For the sake of her own prestige, the old lady would definitely not let her mother leave easily. She would probably have to kneel for an hour.

The sun was scorching, cicadas were chirping, but the quiet Xiahou Mansion was gradually becoming lively. Everyone would pass by the old lady's yard and take a few glances before they would stop. But they would not have expected that the Fourth Madam and the Fourth Girl would actually kneel there. In such a strong sun, who knew if the Fourth Girl's delicate skin could bear it.

And Xia Tong seemed to have overestimated her ability to endure. Although she had undergone military training, her body was very weak now. She was frail and delicate. She had not been kneeling for a quarter of an hour before she began to feel dizzy and was about to fall.

How could Xia Min not come to watch the fun after hearing the news? Soon she rushed over excitedly. When she saw the scene in the courtyard, the corners of her mouth were almost stretched to her ears.

"Tsk tsk tsk, fourth sister is so filial. Look how sunburned you are. Your aunt must be so heartbroken, right?" Xia Min waved a round fan, looked down at the two of them and smiled.

Seeing the smug look on the other person's face, Xia Tong just closed her eyes and didn't want to argue with her. However, her mother was still persuading her to get up, but it was obvious that she couldn't stand the sun any more.

Xia Tong was also feeling dizzy and felt that she couldn't go on like this. While Xia Min was still mocking her, she suddenly fell to the side.

“Tong’er!” Liu’s lips turned pale as she supported her daughter. She immediately looked at the people beside her anxiously, “Call a doctor quickly!”

"I'll go right away!" Qing'er also knelt for a long time. When she stood up, she was still a little shaky. After she came to her senses, she immediately ran out of the yard.

Unexpectedly, the person fainted. Xia Min just snorted and watched the show from the side.

There was a commotion outside the courtyard, and the people inside were also confused, but a maid ran in hurriedly and said respectfully, "Madam, the fourth young lady has fainted."

After the words fell, everyone had different expressions. The old lady narrowed her eyes, and finally waved her hand, "Forget it, let them all go back, and find a doctor to take a good look at the fourth young lady, so that she won't have any root cause of illness."

"Yes." The maid ran out immediately after hearing that.

"This fourth brother's wife is really something. She is so cruel that she can let her daughter kneel with us. Won't she get burned in such a hot sun?" Zhang sighed.

The others didn't say much, just shouted that they wanted to go see the fourth girl.

——

After being moved to the room, Xia Tong could hear her mother's self-blaming voice all the time, but she couldn't wake up until the doctor came and said something that she couldn't understand. In short, she just had a heat stroke and would be fine if she rested more.

But later, her aunts also "kindly" came to visit her. Xia Tong was too lazy to deal with them, so she just fell asleep.

When Xia Zhian came back and heard about this, he immediately ran to his daughter's room to check. He saw that she was still in a coma, but her little face was very pale. He couldn't help but run to his mother.

Just as the old lady heard the news that her granddaughter was fine, she saw her son walking in with a serious face. She knew why he came without thinking.

"Mother, Tong'er is so weak, how could you let him kneel under the scorching sun for so long?" Xia Zhian asked impatiently as soon as he came in.

For the first time, his tone was a little aggressive, and the other maids in the room immediately retreated. The old lady's expression became stern, and she snorted coldly, "She wanted to kneel down on her own initiative. I would like to ask, how did you and that Liu teach your daughter to be so stubborn? Is it possible that she only has that Liu in her eyes?"

The atmosphere in the room froze instantly. Thinking that the other party was his mother, Xia Zhian softened his tone, but still asked seriously: "Tong'er is filial. In terms of rules, she has never been inferior to anyone. Today, she only did this because she was worried about her mother. But how could you really bear to let her kneel in the scorching sun for so long?"

He couldn't bear to say a single harsh word to his own daughter, and now that she had just returned to Beijing and was being hurt one after another, Xia Zhian had to reconsider the idea in his mind.

"She is just threatening me. It must be that Liu who ordered her to do this. You can only blame Liu. She was so cruel that she let her daughter kneel with her. If this goes on, Tong'er will be led astray by her sooner or later!" The old lady narrowed her eyes, and her wrinkled face was full of displeasure.

"Son, I know that you have never liked Zhilan, but don't you think it's too much to punish her like this for giving alms to a beggar?" Xia Zhian frowned.

Hearing this, the old lady didn't know what nerve was touched, and suddenly said angrily: "Okay, in your eyes, there is only that Liu family, and you have never had our Xiahou Mansion. If it weren't for the transfer order from the court, you would never return to Beijing in your life!"

Their eyes met. Looking at the aggressive mother in front of him, Xia Zhian shook his head slightly, and finally left with a frown without saying a word.

Seeing him leave, Nanny Liu outside walked in hesitantly, but she only saw broken teacups on the ground and a rare look of anger appeared on the old lady's face.

After coughing a few times, the old lady took another sip of hot tea, but her eyes could not hide the brilliance, "As long as this Liu is here, Zhian and his daughter will never stay in Xiahou Mansion."
