Chapter 14

Chapter 14

When Zhou Yao returned home, he found Wen Yue had moved a stool and was sitting under the eaves, reading a book.

She leaned back in the chair, lowered her head slightly, and let the hair on both sides of her cheeks fall in the air. This angle could better highlight her tall and straight nose, making her look quiet and beautiful.

Zhou Yao looked at it several times.

Noticing the gaze, Wen Yue came back to her senses from the ocean of knowledge and looked at the tall figure standing at the gate of the yard. She said cheerfully, "You're back! How are they? Do they like the food?"

"Yeah." Zhou Yao responded and glanced at the book in his hand, "Did you borrow the book?"

Wen Yue nodded vigorously and smiled: "Yes, Nian Qiu is really great. She even lent me all her notes."

Zhou Yao: “?”

He stared at Wen Yue's smiling face and asked, "Are there any bad people in your eyes?"

Wen Yue looked at him strangely: "Of course."

My uncle and aunt are not good people!

"Has the meat arrived? What did your friend say?" she asked.

Zhou Yao thought about his boast and touched the tip of his nose: "They said it was very delicious."

Wen Yue's eyes narrowed again after receiving the affirmation, and she said in a sweet voice with a smile: "Then let's invite them to our house for dinner next time when we are free."

"We'll talk about it later." Zhou Yao replied, and then said, "You continue to watch. I'm going to chop wood. There's no firewood at home."

Wen Yue agreed: "Okay."

Zhou Yao went into the kitchen and went out with an axe in hand.

Ten minutes later, Zhou Yao came back with a large bundle of firewood and threw it in the yard. He moved a small stool from the kitchen and sat down, then put the messy firewood into bundles.

It was too hot, so he took off his dark blue long-sleeved jacket and casually threw it aside. Sweat flowed down his cheeks, passed by his protruding Adam's apple, and continued down, finally being absorbed by the white sweatshirt.

The wet sweatshirt clung to his body, outlining the outline of his chest muscles. He grasped a branch that was thicker than Wen Yue's arm with both hands, and with a little force, veins popped on his arm, he broke the branch in his hand.

The crackling sound kept ringing around her ears. Wen Yue couldn't help but look over there, and her attention was immediately attracted by Zhou Yao's figure.

This man has such a great body!

Wen Yue looked at him several times in a row, and before Zhou Yao noticed, she looked away with a red face and sparkling eyes.

She didn't know if she would have the chance to touch them. After living for more than 20 years, she still didn't know what it felt like to touch abdominal muscles.

Zhou Yao quickly sorted out the dry firewood in front of him and carried it back to the kitchen in bundles. Then he carried a basket with two buckets hung on it and went out to fetch water.

After three or four trips back and forth, the water tank was filled to the brim.

The white sweatshirt he was wearing had never been dry. After fetching water, he swept the yard in front of their room, and swept all the poultry excrement on the ground to the doors of the other two families.

"Did I put the sheets away?" Zhou Yao said as he looked at the sheets fluttering in the yard.

"Ah? I'll collect it later."

Wen Yue finally heard it after he said it twice.

"Okay." Zhou Yao responded.

Seeing that it was almost time, Wen Yue put away the book, stood up, took the bed sheet into the house and put it on, then walked towards the kitchen.

The chicken soup is stewed at this time and can be drunk at mealtime.

Zhou Yao: "By the way, I have to go to the market tomorrow. Is there anything I need to bring or any vegetables I want to buy?"

"Let me think about it. I'll tell you when I'm ready." Wen Yue blinked.

Zhou Yao nodded.

Wen Yue is already very adept at handling ingredients.

Cut the chicken in half, use one half for stewing, and the other half for stewing with potatoes.

She was busy, her petite figure moving back and forth in the kitchen.

Zhou Yao finished what he was supposed to do and sat in front of the stove watching.

He has been alone at home since his grandmother passed away.

One person lights the fire and cooks, while the other person eats.

It was too lonely to be alone, so he would often bring some food to Fang Shitao's house for dinner. After dinner, he would come back to face the dark house, alone again.

It was not until this moment that Zhou Yao realized the benefits of getting married.

At last he was not alone anymore.

"Zhou Yao?" Wen Yue raised her voice and scolded the man who turned his head and looked at her with a slightly confused look: "What are you thinking about? I'll make you burn the fire. I've told you several times!"

The bewilderment in Zhou Yao's eyes faded away, and he picked up the hay beside him and replied lazily, "I understand."

Wen Yue: "The soup should be simmered in the back pot over high heat."

Zhou Yao smiled with his upturned eyes, and said in a long tone: "Okay, good, big fire."

The dry grass was lit, and he stuffed two bundles of dry firewood into the back of the pot.

The fire was burning fiercely.

Wen Yue washed, peeled and cut the potatoes into pieces: "By the way, if possible, you can bring me some needles, thread, fabric or wool tomorrow."

"For vegetables, can you bring beef? Or pork is fine too. I'm craving dumplings."

It's so boring now without a mobile phone, computer or any entertainment facilities.

Wen Yue was not very willing to read books every day.

After buying fabrics and yarn, she can also make some handicrafts to pass the time.

"Sure, what color do you want?" Zhou Yao nodded.

Wen Yue: "Black or white, yes, be sure to buy cotton!"

I heard that Dacron is very popular nowadays, but this fabric is not breathable and uncomfortable to wear in summer.

Zhou Yao didn't ask why, he just raised his eyebrows and said, "Okay."

Bring the chicken soup to a simmer over low heat and warmly prepare the chicken and potatoes.

It is inconvenient not to have a rice cooker. Two pots are not enough and there is no space to cook rice.

You can only stir-fry the vegetables first and then simmer the rice.

The kitchen was filled with the delicious aroma of chicken soup, and soon the aroma of chicken stewed with potatoes wafted out, the two different aromas intertwined and emanated out.

It was almost time for dinner, and the people who were working in the fields passed by Zhou's house on their way back. They were so frightened by the odor inside that they could hardly walk.

"What smells so good?"

"It must be stewed chicken, right? This smell must be stewed chicken!"

"Is it good to eat this?"

"It must be Zhou Yao. He has a lot of money. He can eat chicken every day. It's only one thousand yuan. He can eat whatever he wants!"

Everyone was talking among themselves, their tone full of envy.

But some people sneered.

"With a rascal like Zhou Yao, running around every day, I think this thousand dollars will be squandered soon!"

"He is lucky to have a good father, otherwise he would have starved to death long ago!"

"That's right. Just wait. With his behavior, he will soon become a pauper..."

“…”

“…”

Wen Yue poured the hot pot water outside and saw a lot of people gathered outside the yard, pointing at their house. He was stunned for a moment: "Zhou Yao, what are these people doing standing outside our yard?"

Zhou Yao raised his eyebrows and hummed in confusion, then stood up, took two steps to the door and took a look.

"Never mind. These people are just idle."

He looked away with a lack of interest, put his hands in his pockets and sat back on the bench with his arms and legs spread out.

"Oh, okay." After hearing him say that, Wen Yue didn't care anymore and continued cooking.

By the time I heard some banging and banging noises from next door, the rice in the pot was ready.

Wen Yue scooped the chicken soup that had been simmering over low heat in the back pot into a bowl and instructed Zhou Yao to bring it out. The two of them quickly put the meal on the table.

After everything was served, Zhou Yao went back to the kitchen to wash his hands without Wen Yue's reminder, wiped the water stains on his hands with a dry towel hanging under the eaves, and went back to the house to sit down.

Wen Yueyan smiled and said, "You know to wash your hands before eating. You really love cleanliness!"

Zhou Yao smiled perfunctorily, "It's all because of your good teaching."

Wen Yue gave him a thumbs up: "Comrade Zhou Yao, keep it up. The organization recognizes and praises you."

Zhou Yao didn't say anything. He picked up the iron spoon and scooped two bowls of soup. He pushed one bowl to Wen Yue and said nonchalantly, "Even eating can't stop you from talking."

The chicken soup is delicious and the chicken and potato stew is very, very tasty.

The potatoes that had absorbed the soup were soft and tasty, and the chicken had a firm texture and was not at all dry. Both dishes went very well with rice, and Zhou Yao ate two full bowls of rice.

Even Wen Yue ate a bowl.

The chicken and potato stew was eaten cleanly, with some chicken soup left.

Wen Yue touched her slightly bulging belly and burped, "You can save this chicken soup for cooking noodles tomorrow morning. If you get up early tomorrow, you can cook noodles for yourself and eat them before leaving."

She can't get up that early.

Zhou Yao said okay and stood up to clean up the dishes.

All the chicken soup in the back pot was scooped up. Zhou Yao cleaned the back pot, lit the fire and added water to prepare bath water.

Now it was Wen Yue's turn to sit in the stove and put firewood into it.

She placed one hand on her thigh, supporting her chin, staring at the fire in the stove with her remaining eyes, and poked at it with the fire tongs: "Are you coming back so late tomorrow again?"

Zhou Yao hummed, "It will take at least three or four hours to get back from the city. It won't be early."

Wen Yue nodded: "Do you need me to save some food for you tonight?"

Zhou Yao lifted his eyelids and looked over with his dark, bright eyes. "It's up to you. If you want to stay, then stay. If you don't want to stay, then forget it."

Wen Yue: “?”

"Okay." When the water in the pot started to boil, she stood up and went to get the bucket, muttering, "Then I won't leave it for you."

Wen Yue filled the bucket with water, making it full. It looked very heavy.

She turned her head to look at Zhou Yao and said softly, "Zhou Yao, can you help me carry it in? It's too heavy, I can't lift it."

Zhou Yao curled his lips and said, "Carry it yourself. I haven't eaten yet and I don't have the strength."

Wen Yue widened her eyes and asked, "Are you a stingy person?"

"Yeah." Zhou Yao shook off the water on his hands, walked over with a smile, picked up the bucket and put it in the cubicle, "Okay, go take a shower."

Wen Yue glanced at him coquettishly and went into the small compartment with the clothes in her arms.

The eyes are rolling, and the look is bright.

Zhou Yao was stunned for a long time by this look. His heartbeat quickened and his body temperature began to rise abnormally.

He touched his forehead with a puzzled look on his face.

Have a fever?
