Chapter 6 [Revision]
Wen Yue was woken up by the crowing of roosters.
The sky outside the window was grayish white, and the roosters outside the house kept clucking. I slept too late yesterday, and now I was woken up by the noise. My temples were throbbing, and my head was buzzing. I felt very uncomfortable.
The light in the room was still dim. She turned over and slowed down her breathing, and she felt better. When the rooster stopped crowing, Wen Yue planned to continue sleeping for a while, but there were other ping-pong sounds outside.
Lin Fang's loud voice was so penetrating that it went straight into the ears.
Wen Yue: “…”
So annoying!
She sat up and scratched her hair irritably.
Forget it, I won’t sleep anymore.
After calming down, I got up from the bed, picked up the chipped wooden comb on the desk, combed my hair, opened the door and walked out. Looking at the sky, it was estimated to be around six o'clock, the temperature was relatively cool, and the air was very fresh.
"Hey, you're awake." Lin Fang's sharp voice sounded beside him.
Wen Yue turned her head and saw Lin Fang holding a steaming wooden barrel filled with dark brown sticky stuff. When she saw her, Lin Fang smiled and looked her up and down.
Wen Yue felt uncomfortable being stared at, so she smiled, turned around and fished out the key left by Zhou Yao from the window.
Seeing this, Lin Fang paused, her eyes flickering, "Is Zhou Yao out?"
Wen Yue smiled: "Yeah."
Lin Fang recalled what Zhou Qingshan said yesterday, and thought that this opportunity came too quickly. She couldn't contain her joy, and smiled happily and instructed Wen Yue: "Xiao Yue, my aunt is going to feed the pigs now, go and help her wash the clothes."
"?"
Wen Yue thought she was hallucinating: "What?"
Lin Fang smiled and said, "Your uncle said you are very hardworking and can do any job. Why don't you help your aunt wash the clothes and cut some pig grass. I have other work to do."
Wen Yue suddenly understood why Zhou Yao hated these two families so much.
She pursed her lips, her smile and the curls on both sides of her mouth disappeared at the same time, and she refused bluntly: "I won't do it."
"Hey! What's wrong with you, girl? I'm your elder, so what if I ask you to do some work?" Lin Fang didn't expect Wen Yue to refuse so decisively. She was stunned for two seconds, then she jumped up and down in anger and cursed, "How can there be a junior like you!"
Wen Yue stared at her with her beautiful eyes, her voice soft but firm: "You are Zhou Yao's elder, wait for him to come back, and let him help you with the work."
“…”
If Lin Fang had the guts, he wouldn't have ordered his wife to do this when Zhou Yao was not at home. His face was long and his voice was shrill:
"Women should be more diligent so that men will like them and treat them well. If you are a disobedient wife, you will be beaten so hard that you won't be able to get out of bed for three days and three nights!"
Wen Yue was amused by this and nodded perfunctorily: "Yeah, you are right, then you should do more work and be a hardworking and lovable daughter-in-law."
Seeing that she was not interested and having failed to get what she wanted, Lin Fang turned around and left with the wooden barrel. Her back was filled with anger and her eyes were almost rolling up to the sky.
Wen Yue snorted twice at the other person's back and decided that he would complain to Zhou Yao when he came back.
Want to bully her when she's not at home? Don't even think about it!
As soon as Lin Fang left, Liu Cuicui came out of the house and said softly to Wen Yue, "Don't bother with your second aunt. She has always been like this and has a bad temper. Have you had breakfast? I just cooked two eggs. Would you like to have one?"
"Thank you, but it's okay." Wen Yue smiled softly and took the key to open the kitchen door.
She treats others the way they treat her.
Lin Fangchong was fierce to her, but she was not used to it. When Third Aunt-in-law smiled at her, she would smile back at her. The main point was that she had a clear distinction between love and hate.
After being rejected, Liu Cuicui didn't say anything and went back to the kitchen.
Wen Yue first sat in front of the stove and lit a fire, recalling Zhou Yao's actions last night. She awkwardly and unfamiliarly lit the dry grass and stuffed it into the stove. She used the flint to poke it twice, and the dry grass really started to burn.
Wait until the fire is lit before brushing your teeth and washing your face.
After washing up, Wen Yue opened Zhou Yao's room.
The furnishings in this room are similar to those in the next room, except that there are more miscellaneous items and an extra cabinet in front of the wall by the window.
Wen Yue opened the cabinet and saw that there were a lot of food in it.
Rice cakes, walnut crisps, malted milk, White Rabbit candy, a basket of eggs, dried noodles, and a bowl of lard and half a piece of bacon in yellow enamel. The candy and malted milk were still unpacked, so they must have been bought recently.
Wen Yue took a quick look, picked up an egg, and walked out with the lard and noodles.
Cook a bowl of egg noodles.
The pot was already heated, and she used a spatula to scoop a small amount of lard into the pot, then cracked the eggshell. The eggs fried in lard were more fragrant, and as the eggs became crispy, Wen Yue used the spatula to scoop the eggs into a bowl, and then poured water directly into the pot.
When the water boils, cook the noodles until soft and put them into a bowl. Ladle some of the cooking water and add some lard and stir. Add some salt and it will taste delicious.
The aroma wafted out in waves. Lin Fang, who had just finished feeding the pigs, smelled the smell. She twitched her nose twice and immediately identified what it was. She said angrily, "Wow, eating with oil so early in the morning, life is really good."
She screamed twice, her tone full of jealousy: "The wife Zhou Yao married really doesn't know how to live. Who eats lard so early in the morning?"
What's wrong with eating lard?
Wen Yue felt it was too noisy, so she strolled to the kitchen door and happened to meet the eyes of Lin Fang who was standing in the yard.
She smiled and pretended to be surprised: "Oh my God, Second Uncle's wife, you work so hard every day, and Second Uncle still doesn't allow you to eat some lard in the morning? Second Uncle is too much. I will let Zhou Yao have a good talk with Second Uncle later."
The voice was soft and non-aggressive, but the words that came out were sharp.
After saying that, Wen Yue quickly closed the door before Lin Fang could react and get angry.
There was a loud bang, not loud, but quite insulting.
Lin Fang was so angry that she fell backwards, what a stupid girl!!!
Wen Yue hummed a little tune, turned her head and sat in front of the stove to eat noodles. As she felt the noodles go down her throat, her beautiful almond eyes curved. She ate the whole bowl of noodles and felt her stomach was a little full. She sat for a while and then got up to wash the dishes and the pot.
The water tank in the kitchen was full. Wen Yue dragged out the large wooden basin and put it in the yard. She took out the soap from the small compartment and washed the clothes she had taken off yesterday.
Villagers usually go to the river at the entrance of the village to wash clothes, but when I thought of the women Wen Yue saw when I entered the village yesterday, I felt a little scared.
These are just a few pieces of clothes. You can wash them at home.
It was still early after finishing the laundry, and Wen Yue was bored, so she simply tidied up Zhou Yao's room.
She ate noodles as usual for lunch and prepared hand-rolled noodles for dinner. Just after she finished cleaning the kitchen, Wen Yue suddenly heard someone calling her name outside the yard.
"Wen Yue, Wen Yue, are you here?"
She walked out of the kitchen and looked outside. Standing outside the yard was a girl with pigtails. She was wearing old clothes, with delicate features, clear eyes, and a strong aura between her eyebrows.
After just one encounter, Wen Yue was sure that this person was the heroine.
The original owner and the heroine had the same experience. They had a good relationship before, but their contact gradually decreased. Because the heroine always advised the original owner to resist, the original owner did not dare to do so, and only complained about everything. She was also very jealous and resentful of the heroine in her heart, and in turn advised the heroine not to go against her relatives, and then the two of them became estranged.
"I'm here." Wen Yue walked to the gate, disguising his curiosity as he sized up the girl in front of him: "Come in and sit down?"
"No, I just want to tell you a few words." Li Nianqiu also carefully looked at his friend and saw that there were no scars on her exposed skin and she was in good condition. He breathed a sigh of relief: "I just got home yesterday and heard from the villagers that Zhou Yao beat you into the hospital. Is this true?"
Wen Yue didn't expect the heroine to ask this, and was stunned for a moment: "It has nothing to do with Zhou Yao. I was malnourished and my emotions fluctuated so much that I fainted and went to the hospital."
Li Nianqiu pursed her lips and said, "You shouldn't have agreed to marry in place of Wen Xiaoyu. They are just your uncles, not your biological parents. As long as you insist, they can't interfere in your marriage." Although her tone was flat, it was not difficult to hear the disappointment in her voice.
Wen Yue was embarrassed.
What’s going on? She doesn’t know what the original owner is thinking!
But her silence had another meaning to Li Nianqiu.
Li Nianqiu sighed helplessly.
She understood Wen Yue's personality, so she didn't say anything. She asked her again, "How is he treating you?" Then she looked into the yard a few times and asked, "He's not at home?"
"He went out to the city this morning. He was very nice to me." Wen Yue answered quickly this time. Seeing Li Nianqiu's suspicious look, he confirmed again: "Really, he is much better than my uncle and his friends. At least he won't let me work on an empty stomach."
Hearing this, Li Nianqiu's frown relaxed: "Then it would be nice for you to marry me."
"Why don't you consider going back to school? Everything else is fake, but the knowledge you learn is real. I believe knowledge can change your destiny."
"You..." Li Nianqiu paused, remembering that Wen Yue didn't like to be preached by her, and swallowed the words that were about to come out of her throat. She only advised earnestly: "Just listen to me once and go back to study."
Wen Yue was somewhat touched.
The heroine really regards the original owner as a good friend and cares about him. This suggestion comes at a good time. She was just worrying about what to do in the future!
"I..." Wen Yue was about to agree, but suddenly thought of something very important and said in embarrassment, "But I don't have any money."
Wuwuwu, there is not a penny in her pocket, she is very poor!!
Lin Nianqiu frowned again, thought carefully for a few seconds, and gave a suggestion: "Is your land still in the hands of your uncle? If you take it back and sell it, you should be able to sell it for three or four hundred."
"Don't be afraid. If they don't return the land to you, go to the village chief to seek justice."
Li Nianqiu obviously understood the original owner's personality very well and even thought of a solution.
As expected of the heroine, so reliable!
Wen Yue curled her beautiful eyes, smiled brightly, and responded crisply: "Okay, I will go, thank you."
“…You’re welcome.” Seeing the smile on Wen Yue’s face, Li Nianqiu was stunned for two seconds, feeling that the good friend in front of him seemed a little different.
But she was very happy that he had changed. Her frown relaxed and a smile flashed in her eyes. "Then I'll go back to work. If you have any problems, come to me and I'll help you."
Wen Yue nodded in response: "Yeah!"
Watching Li Nianqiu leave, Wen Yue stood at the gate of the courtyard, frowning and thinking seriously.
Before the original owner's grandmother passed away, she gave all the land she was allocated to the original owner, and asked the village chief to witness it. However, the original owner did not know how to farm, so the two plots of land were later taken over by my uncle and his family.
So, she can get these fields back!
Wen Yue had just taken half a step outside when she suddenly recalled the impression of her uncle's family in the original owner's memory... In her impression, her aunt was very fierce and scary. Not only would she scold people, but sometimes she would also use violence. She was very scary!
With a whoosh, Wen Yue took back the small step she had taken and went back to the house.
It would be better to wait for Zhou Yao to come back and discuss with him about going to claim the land together.
Zhou Yao was tall and strong, so he felt safer by her side. At least if his aunt-in-law really attacked him, he should be able to act as a human shield.
Wen Yue praised her own wit.
