Chapter 135 Soft-Hearted

The thunder came out of nowhere, and Liu was terrified. "Thunder is rare in autumn, and a sudden clap of thunder is an ominous sign. Even the heavens are trying to stop you from aborting the child! Yu'er, you should stop!"

Qinghe thought to herself: "Aunt Liu's words are a bit too exaggerated. What's so special about this child that he could alarm the heavens? Could he be some kind of general or dragon prince?"

Ancient people were superstitious and always thought that thunder in autumn was bad luck, but Su Yushan was a modern person and she didn't believe in these things. Although she felt a little uneasy, she still thought she shouldn't delay any longer.

Since she had already made the decision, she could no longer hesitate. The more she thought about it, the more conflicted she became. So she simply stopped thinking about it, closed her eyes, picked up the medicine bowl, and drank it all in one gulp!

She thought that drinking this medicine would bring her relief. From then on, she and Hongli would be completely cut off, even the last thread of connection. But why did she not feel relieved at all? Instead, she felt extremely lost, unable to control her emotions, and burst into tears, as if she had lost something most important.

Clutching her chest, Su Yushan felt a sharp pain that made it hard to breathe.

Seeing her with tears streaming down her face, Liu felt as if she were in her shoes. She gently patted her back and cried along with her, "A child is a piece of a mother's flesh. If it weren't for a last resort, who would want to abort it? Aren't you also reluctant to part with the child and want to keep it?"

What's the point of saying all this now? "It's gone, it's all gone!"

Su Yushan choked up, her eyes blurred with tears, and she cried so hard she could hardly breathe. "I'm sorry to this child. I'm too selfish, too cruel, and I don't deserve to be a mother."

Sensing that she was also somewhat reluctant, Liu tentatively asked, "If you had a choice, would you keep the child?"

Why would Aunt Liu ask this out of the blue? Meeting her rather serious gaze, Su Yushan felt something was amiss. "Auntie, what do you mean by this?"

With a soft sigh, Madam Liu said, "To tell you the truth, I actually had Yunfang brew two doses of medicine, one for abortion and one for preventing miscarriage. You just drank the one for preventing miscarriage because I was afraid you were acting impulsively and might regret it, so I made the decision for you without my consent. If you have no regrets and still insist on having an abortion, the abortion medicine is still available, and you can still make your choice."

So it turned out she hadn't drunk abortion pills after all? Upon learning the truth, Su Yushan was overwhelmed with mixed feelings, unsure whether to be angry or grateful.

As Liu said, there was still one bowl of medicine left, which she could take, but courage often only lasts for a moment, and then it's gone forever.

She had always believed she had no attachment to her and Hongli's child, until after taking the medicine, she was shocked to realize that she actually felt reluctant to part with him. She never wanted to experience that excruciating pain again.

After all this turmoil, Su Yushan was exhausted and didn't mention abortion again. She lay listlessly in bed, sobbing silently, unwilling to utter a sound.

Liu breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that she must have figured it out. Yunfang interrupted, "Sister Yu'er must be tired! You should rest well. We'll go out first. Just call me if you need anything."

After saying this, everyone left the house without disturbing her any further, letting her have some peace and quiet.

A heavy rain was approaching, and Qinghe was preparing to gather the firewood from the yard into the kitchen when she was stopped by Aunt Liu.

"Qinghe! Come here, I have something to tell you."

Aunt Liu's face was serious, as if she had something important to say. Qinghe immediately stopped and turned to the back, saying, "Mother, please speak."

But then she lowered her voice and said, "You need to apologize to Yu'er."

Upon hearing this, Qinghe's handsome face slightly furrowed, his raised eyebrows filled with doubt. "Why should I apologize to her?"

"What you said yesterday was unpleasant to hear. Yu'er is thoughtful and must have some concerns. She thinks you have feelings for her and is afraid to stay here. So you have to apologize to her to prevent her from overthinking."

“I didn’t say anything wrong. I was just worried about your and Yunfang’s safety and concerned that her identity might be questionable.”

Yu'er is so frail, Liu Shi doesn't think she's a bad person at all. "She's just a pitiful concubine who just wants to save her own life! I know you don't mean any harm, but you're too blunt. It's bound to be a bit harsh to her. A real man can bend and stretch. Go apologize and say some nice things to her, and this matter will be over."

Qinghe frowned slightly, his expression clearly not well. "She can stay if she wants, or leave if she wants. I won't interfere. If it's my fault, I should apologize. If not, I will never bow my head."

After saying this, he turned and left. Liu tried to persuade him but to no avail, and sighed helplessly, "Oh, you child, why are you so stubborn?"

He usually obeyed whatever Liu said, but this time, he stubbornly refused to back down. Liu had no choice but to ask her daughter to persuade him.

Yunfang dared not disobey her mother's order. Taking advantage of the moment when she was helping him carry firewood, she casually brought up the matter, "Please pass the test. I don't understand, where does your hostility towards Sister Yu'er come from?"

Hostility? That's a serious matter. "I'm not targeting anyone, but you should know that concubines can't just leave home. If they're caught by their husband's family, you and I will both be accused of human trafficking."

"She had nowhere else to turn, so we should help her and give her a place to stay."

"I didn't say she couldn't stay here, so why are you all telling me this?" After a moment's thought, Qinghe realized, "Did Mother send you?"

Yunfang wanted to say something more, but he interrupted her, "Don't say anything more, I won't go."

Once Qinghe has made up his mind, it's hard for others to change it. Knowing his temperament, Yunfang didn't say anything more.

Su Yushan didn't pay much attention to Qinghe's words; she was only thinking about how to proceed in the future.

Now that she has decided to keep the child, she should take on the responsibility of being a mother. She cannot continue to live here and disturb Aunt Liu's family.
