Chapter 150: Helping him warm his hands

With a soft hiss, Su Yushan instinctively backed away. When she groggily opened her eyes, what came into view was that handsome face covered with frost.

Although the tent was warm and cozy, she inexplicably felt a chill down her spine, sensing that he had come to cause trouble again.

"Fourth Master? It's the middle of the night, what brings you here?"

Her voice, still slightly groggy from just waking up, sounded somewhat coquettish.

Is it the middle of the night? "It's only past 9 PM, are you still half asleep?"

"Hmm? Really?" Su Yushan rubbed her eyes, glanced at the water clock beside her, and realized that it was indeed Hai Shi (9-11 PM). Sleepy, she squinted and muttered, "That's getting late!"

At this moment, Hongli had already withdrawn his hand, sat upright by the tent, and said in a cool voice, "Is it because I'm late, or because I'm not welcome?"

If it's the first scenario, he'd probably scold her for overestimating herself and taking herself too seriously; if it's the second, he'd think she had a problem with him.

It seemed that no matter which option she chose, it was wrong. After pondering for a while, Su Yushan smiled gently at him and said, "It's not too late. No matter when you come, I will welcome you very much."

These words sounded sweet, but he felt that her smile didn't reach her eyes and seemed superficial.

"Really? Since you're so welcoming, then warm my hands for me." As he spoke, Hongli leaned over her side, slipped his hands under the covers, and reached into her bosom.

Su Yushan instinctively clutched the collar of her undergarment, "Hey---don't touch me, your hands are so cold!" To avoid upsetting him, she immediately took the hot water bottle from under the covers and handed it to him.

"Use this to warm it up, it's still warm!"

Hongli glanced at it dismissively, "I don't want a hot water bottle, I want you to warm it yourself."

He insisted, and Su Yushan dared not refuse, so she could only let him put his hand inside her undergarment.

The moment the large hand slammed down, Su Yushan felt her heart tremble with cold, but she dared not complain and could only endure it.

His hands began to wander, and even though he hadn't touched her for months, he could still clearly sense the changes. Perhaps because of the pregnancy, that soft mound had become even rounder and fuller.

The touch was smooth and warm. In contrast, the person in his arms had her eyes tightly closed, curled up as if in great discomfort. Hongli knew she was suffering, but he didn't let go. He asked in a low voice, "..."

Is it cold?

Isn't that obvious? Suppressing the discomfort from the chill, Su Yushan muttered softly, "Why don't you try it on yourself?"

He did this simply to make her truly feel his emotions: "The day you escaped from Lingguang Temple, my heart was colder than my hands are now."

"..." Since she came back, he hadn't mentioned that matter again, and she thought it was over, but she never expected that he would suddenly bring it up tonight.

That incident was her nightmare, and she deliberately buried it deep inside to convince herself to stay here. That's why Su Yushan didn't want to bring it up and changed the subject:

"It won't happen again. I will listen to you obediently."

These words sounded strangely familiar. He vividly remembered the days before she left, when she had been just as compliant with him. This familiar scene only fueled his suspicions once more.

"Are you trying to fool me again? Your brother is safe and sound, and I'm of no use to you now. Are you already thinking about how to escape?"

She only had one chance, and it had been exhausted; she could never have another. "From the moment I came back, I never thought of running away again."

"Really? Weren't you trying every possible way to leave this place? Why did you suddenly change your mind? This isn't normal."

He was so suspicious; if she made up some excuse about still having feelings for him, he definitely wouldn't believe her. Besides, she had already promised him she wouldn't lie to him again. So, Su Yushan, too lazy to lie, simply told him the real reason.

"Because of my child, I don't want him to be born without a father."

Such a reason is obviously flawed. "If I remember correctly, you fainted a few days before you left. The doctor wanted to take your pulse, but you stubbornly refused. In fact, you already knew you were pregnant at that time, but you didn't tell me. You left the capital while pregnant. Didn't you think about the child being born without a father?"

Su Yushan had almost forgotten about that incident, but unexpectedly he was able to connect the two together. "I didn't know I was pregnant at that time."

"Then why won't you allow the doctor to take your pulse?"

Why? It's all because of Kim Min-jung! But Su Yu-shan didn't want to mention her name anymore. Anyway, Hongli would always be lenient towards that woman, so why should she humiliate herself?

Suppressing her grief and indignation, Su Yushan spoke calmly and softly, "At that time, I was emotionally broken down and fell ill just because I thought I was sick. I didn't want to seek treatment and it wasn't that I was deliberately hiding anything."

Staring intently at her features, Hongli tried hard to discern the truth from falsehood. "Can I believe your words?"

"If you employ someone, trust them; if you don't trust someone, don't employ them. Fourth Master, you can put your mind at ease. If you keep being suspicious, wouldn't you just be making yourself miserable?"

Her gaze was completely calm when she looked at him, and Hongli could find no fault with it, yet he still couldn't put his mind at ease. "It's not that I'm suspicious, it's just that you're too cunning."

As he spoke, he gave her a hard squeeze. "Didn't you say you wanted me to repay your kindness? How do you plan to do so?"

The slight pain made Su Yushan frown slightly. She really wanted to repay him, so she steeled herself and, as always, closed her eyes, raised her head, and pressed her lips to his cheek.

This situation inevitably reminded him of the sweet and loving time they once shared.

It's the same person, the same gentle kiss, but both of them feel incredibly bitter, devoid of any tenderness or affection.

Lost in thought, he felt the softness of her lips, but before he could savor it, she had already turned over and lay down.
