Hongli couldn't understand, but Su Yushan understood Yunfang's thoughts very well.
"Master Fu's family background is indeed better than Li Yu's, but he is taciturn and aloof. Moreover, he has to get married, so Yunfang can only be his concubine. Li Yu is different; he is witty and humorous and can make Yunfang laugh. If he really likes Yunfang, he would be devoted to her, right? Comparing the two, it is only natural that Yunfang would fall for Li Yu."
Reflecting on her first two sentences, Hongli said softly, "You seem to know a lot about Fu Qing?"
What did he mean by that? Su Yushan looked up in confusion and found that his eyes showed no anger, but rather a calm, ambiguous smile.
In the past, she would have been angry and questioned why he didn't trust her. But now she understood the ways of relationships and wasn't as willful as before. She didn't want to investigate whether he still had doubts; she assumed he was just jealous and calmly replied:
"Understand? You must have some misunderstanding. I stayed there for more than two months and exchanged no more than ten sentences with him. How could I possibly understand him?"
Her answer was natural, so Hongli didn't think much of it. Recalling his past studies in the Imperial Study, Hongli suddenly smiled.
"Fu Qing is indeed a quiet person, cold on the outside but warm on the inside. Fifth Brother quite likes to be with him."
"Is it because Fifth Master talks a lot that he wants to find a quiet listener?"
The two exchanged a few jokes and easily brushed the matter aside. The next step was to test Li Yu's intentions; how to do so was the question.
After all, Li Yu was his man, and if she directly summoned him for questioning, she feared Hongli would be displeased. So, she first suggested that Hongli probe Li Yu's intentions. Hongli raised an eyebrow, his face clearly showing his refusal.
"I only want to talk about love with you, not about romance with Li Yu. You should talk to him!"
After Hongli gave the order, Su Yushan no longer held back and called Li Yu over whenever she had a spare moment.
Upon hearing the news, Li Yu rushed over immediately, her eyes filled with anticipation. "Princess, is there a result? What did Yunfang say?"
Thinking of what Yunfang had told her, Su Yushan said indirectly, "Yunfang didn't say anything, but I have some doubts and would like to ask you about them."
"Please speak, Your Highness. This servant will tell you everything I know without reservation."
"What do you think of Yunfang?" Su Yushan wanted to gauge his opinion first, and Li Yu, without much thought, answered truthfully:
"Clever, poised, beautiful inside and out, she's a good girl."
"Have you ever thought that if you acknowledge Aunt Liu as your relative and become Yunfang's brother, you won't be able to be with her anymore?"
"Together?" Li Yu was stunned and couldn't react for a moment. "Forgive this servant for being so dense, what does Your Highness mean by this?"
“Just like Fourth Master and I, together.” Su Yushan explained it very clearly, and she figured he should understand.
Upon hearing this, Li Yu's face stiffened. After a moment of stunned silence, he awkwardly laughed and said, "Your Highness is joking. This servant is a eunuch, not a normal man. How could I dare to have any improper thoughts about her?"
"What if Yunfang doesn't mind? Would you be willing to spend your life with her?"
Su Yushan used the hypothetical scenario to test Li Yu, who felt that the princess was teasing him. "How could that be? She knew all along that I was a eunuch. It's impossible."
Just now, when Li Yu came over, Yun Fang happened to see him. Seeing his hurried steps, she became curious and followed him. She stood outside the door and listened for a while, but couldn't wait any longer, so she simply went inside.
“I did know your identity from the beginning. Just as Sister Yu said, I don’t mind. Li Yu, whether you like it or not is just a matter of saying so. Just say it!”
Yunfang's sudden appearance completely baffled Li Yu! It was because her words seemed to come out of nowhere; Su Gege had just said something hypothetical, so why did Yunfang take it seriously?
Li Yu became increasingly confused. "What do you mean? I don't understand."
"Sister Yu explained it so clearly, how could you not understand? I think you're just pretending to be stupid." She finally mustered up the courage to speak frankly to him, but he was still pretending to be stupid. Yunfang's cheeks puffed up with anger, and she simply turned around and walked out.
"Oh---Yunfang!" Li Yu looked anxiously at Su Gege, not knowing what to do for a moment. Su Yushan smiled and reminded her:
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and chase after them!"
Without further hesitation, Li Yu hurriedly chased after her, quickly catching up and blocking her path. "Yunfang! Slow down, listen to me!"
With a soft snort, Yunfang turned around with a stern face, glaring at him angrily, "What do you want to say?"
In truth, he didn't know what he wanted to say either. After hesitating for a moment, Li Yucai said, "I'm not pretending to be stupid. I really don't understand. What Su Gege said, could it be true?"
His face showed only surprise, not joy. Seeing this, Yunfang became even more disappointed. "Do you find it ridiculous? Is it ridiculous that I like you?"
Hearing her say those words with his own ears, Li Yu's mind went blank. He stared at her blankly for a while before saying, "No, that's not what I meant."
At that moment, Li Yu only regretted that he hadn't read enough books, and that he couldn't describe that feeling. After racking his brains for a long time, he finally managed to come up with a sentence.
"I just feel...surprised, unexpected."
"And then what? What's your answer? Do you like me?" Since she had already said it, she decided not to hide it anymore and questioned him directly in front of him, wanting a clear answer. However, Li Yu stammered for a long time and finally couldn't give a definite answer.
She had made herself perfectly clear, yet he still refused to speak plainly. Yunfang was filled with shame and indignation, and unwilling to wait for him any longer. "If you don't want to talk about it, then forget it."
Li Yu wasn't unwilling to talk about it, but she didn't know where to begin. "I... have never considered this issue."
