Chapter 285: Adding Drugs

Upon his return and hearing about this, Hongli frowned but did not respond. He did not mention the cause of Jin Minjing's death. Su Yushan wanted to ask, but after thinking it over, she ultimately did not ask.

How a person dies, whether by suicide or homicide, who cares?

Consort Xi, who once defended Kim Min-jung, wouldn't care, nor would her family. They would only think that their daughter had lost face. No one would think about what kind of life Kim Min-jung was living.

She lived in a dream, those years of madness were so empty and lonely. Now that she's awake, she has to bear the blow of Chen Feng's death because of her, and also the guidance of betraying Fourth Master. Her days are too hard to bear. Death is not a fear for her, but a kind of relief.

Since that was the case, Su Yushan didn't delve any further. She only hoped that if there were an afterlife, Jin Minjing would have a shred of kindness, and Chen Feng would be able to get what he wanted.

Emperor Hongli kept this matter under wraps, and few people knew the inside story. To the outside world, he only said that Princess Jin was seriously insane and accidentally fell into the water and drowned.

Yu Ying thought that since Princess Jin had left and the grudges had been settled, it would be pitiful to leave the child alone in the other courtyard. She suggested that they take the child back to the mansion.

Hongli, however, forbade it. Although Su Yushan would be heartbroken and cry when she saw the entanglement between Chen Feng and Jin Minjing, it did not mean that Yushan could completely let go of the past grievances.

If Kim Min-jung's child were brought into the mansion, every time Yu-shan saw the child, she would be reminded of Kim Min-jung, which would be torture for both Yu-shan and Hong-li. He did not want Yu-shan to recall those unpleasant past events, so he resolutely refused to let the child return to the mansion.

When Yu Ying brought it up again, Hongli brought up his father, saying that the emperor forbade the child to be included in the imperial genealogy.

Hongli was adamant, and Yuying could not persuade him, so she had to give up the idea.

Although Hongli did not allow the child to return to the mansion, he still invited an imperial physician to inoculate the child with smallpox.

The matter, which should have been done before the new year, had been neglected by Hongli, who kept putting it off until the child was almost three years old. Only then did he finalize the date for smallpox vaccination with the imperial physician.

As for whether it will succeed, we'll see in ten days; that depends on the child's fate.

After her daughter turned one month old, Su Yushan stayed at home to take care of her two children.

Yonghuang didn't like his younger sister very much at first, but after his mother taught him a lesson, he found her very cute and looked forward to her growing up quickly so that she could play with him.

That afternoon, while her daughter was asleep, Su Yushan was in the courtyard with Yonghuang, painting kites, when a servant came to report that her sister had arrived.

Su Yushan hurriedly got up to greet her. After Yu Chan entered the courtyard, she hugged her little nephew for a while and even helped him draw goldfish. She seemed very calm, but Su Yushan could tell that her complexion was not good and her eyes were obviously red and swollen, as if she had cried a lot.

So Su Yushan called Yun Song over and asked him to help Yonghuang make a kite, while she took Yu Chan into the house to talk.

In front of outsiders, Yu Chan acted very naturally, but once inside the house, when her sister asked her if she had something on her mind or had suffered some grievance, she could no longer hold back, and large tears streamed down her face.

She didn't want to bother her sister, but this time, she couldn't bear it any longer and didn't know who to talk to, so she could only come to the Fourth Master's mansion to find her sister.

Seeing this, Yu Shan quickly handed her the handkerchief and gently coaxed, "What's wrong? What happened? Who bullied you?"

Yu Chan cried for a long time before she calmed down a little and choked out the secret she had kept hidden for several years.

She and Zheng Lin had been married for two and a half years, but Zheng Lin had never touched her. Yu Chan was afraid that her mother-in-law would scold him, so she didn't dare to tell him that the two had never consummated their marriage.

The daughter-in-law had not conceived in the two years since she married into the family, so the mother-in-law assumed that there was something wrong with Yu Chan's health. She hired a doctor to treat her and made her drink medicine every day. Zheng Lin forbade her to drink it, saying that drinking medicine when you are not sick would harm your health.

He planned to talk to his mother and make things clear, but Yu Chan wouldn't allow it, lest his mother-in-law nag him again.

After discussing it, she secretly poured out the medicine behind the maid's back. Everything was fine at first, but later the maid noticed something was wrong and reported it to the old lady.

When Madam Zheng asked her why she refused to drink the medicine, Zheng Lin finally revealed the truth.

Enraged, Madam Zheng gave her son a severe scolding, but Zheng Lin ignored her advice and never intended to consummate his marriage with Yu Chan.

In her desperation to have a grandson as soon as possible, Madam Zheng resorted to all sorts of unorthodox methods, even obtaining some aphrodisiac drugs from a doctor and ordering them to be lit in the incense burner in her son's room.

Zheng Lin would unconsciously have a slight hallucination when he smelled that fragrance, and so the couple consummated their marriage.

When Zheng Lin woke up, he saw Yu Chan beside him with her clothes disheveled, and then looked at himself, looking shocked!

Thinking back to the ginseng soup Yu Chan had served him last night, he became suspicious. "Did you tamper with the soup? Did you poison me?"

Yu Chan, who had just woken up, was somewhat dazed and subconsciously shook her head in denial, "What medicine? What are you talking about?"

Before she could understand what was happening, Zheng Lin erupted in fury at her.

“When you married me, I told you I had no feelings for you. You knew that, yet you still insisted on getting married. If you had just stayed true to yourself, we could have managed to live together. But you used such despicable means to force me to consummate our marriage. Yu Chan, how could you, a young woman, be so vile?”

Zheng Lin spoke harshly and sternly, each word piercing her heart and wounding her deeply, showing no regard for her feelings. Yu Chan, unaware of the reason, only felt that his words were extremely hurtful.

"Ever since we got married, I've lied to my mother-in-law to protect you. Every time my family asks me how I'm doing, I force a smile and say you treat me very well. I'm always thinking of you, but what about you? It's one thing that you refuse to consummate the marriage, but you even falsely accuse me of drugging you. In your eyes, am I the kind of shameless woman?"
