Chapter 333 Protecting Su Yushan

Su Mingfeng is now just a junior official in the Ministry of Rites. He knows very well that he was able to get to where he is today not only because he studied hard since childhood and passed the imperial examination, but more importantly because of the support of Prince Bao.

After all, there are plenty of people who have passed the imperial examinations, and some spend their entire lives in the Hanlin Academy but still struggle to get into one of the Six Ministries. If it weren't for his sister's connections, he, a Han official, wouldn't have been able to be transferred to the Ministry of Rites so quickly.

Su Mingfeng was insightful, so he never accepted gifts or made any promises to anyone. He worried that his younger brother, Su Jiafeng, was soft-hearted and might easily lose his senses after being plied with alcohol. Therefore, he specifically reminded Su Jiafeng to be very careful of flatterers, not to accept gifts, not to be greedy, and not to fall into their traps, lest he cause trouble for Prince Bao.

"It's not easy for us commoners to enter officialdom. So many eyes are watching us, just waiting to find fault with us. We must cherish our position and avoid causing trouble."

Su Jiafeng agreed readily, "Don't worry! The Prince has given me some pointers. I know what I'm doing and won't act recklessly."

Excellent! The two brothers were highly regarded by Prince Bao and were promoted repeatedly. Hongli was waiting for the right opportunity to promote Su Mingfeng to the position of Vice Minister, which had already affected the interests of other officials.

Some people genuinely wanted to curry favor with him, while others used the guise of currying favor to take the opportunity to frame them. Therefore, Su Mingfeng was extra careful and did not want to implicate Prince Bao because of her own mistakes.

As long as the two of them are upright and honest, it will be difficult for others to harm them.

With both her elder and younger brothers being reasonable, Su Yushan felt relieved.

Yonghuang entered the palace to study in September. Now it is mid-winter and a snow has already fallen. It has been almost two months since he entered the palace, and he has not returned to his residence yet.

Tangdou'er missed her brother terribly because she couldn't see him. She kept talking about it to her mother, saying that she wanted to go to the palace to visit him.

Su Yushan also missed her son, but she had no chance to enter the palace. Hongli would visit his son in the Imperial Study every four or five days. Yonghuang was just starting school and didn't know many characters, so he couldn't write letters yet. He would give his father the paper he used to practice writing and ask his father to pass it on to his mother.

Every time Su Yushan saw her son's handwriting, her heart warmed, and she finally felt some comfort.

But she knew that Hongli was in a difficult position, so she didn't mention going to the palace to see her son.

When Hongli returned to the mansion that day, he had only walked to the eaves and had not yet entered the door when he heard his daughter pleading with Yushan, saying that she wanted to see her brother.

Yu Shan repeatedly reassured her, saying that her brother was very busy with his studies and would not be able to come back until the New Year.

Tangdou refused, her big eyes instantly filling with tears, and she sniffled pitifully as she cried:

"Mother is lying. I miss my brother and want to see him."

Su Yushan was worrying about how to comfort her daughter when she suddenly heard footsteps at the door. At the same time, Hongli's clear voice reached her ears.

"Father will take you to the palace, okay?"
