Chapter 394 Concubine

Yu Shan knew that Yu Chan had given birth to three daughters, but she heard that Zheng Lin had never taken a concubine, so she thought that Zheng Lin truly loved Yu Chan and didn't mind these things.

Madam Zheng's eagerness for a grandchild is understandable, but she really shouldn't have acted on her own. "What's the situation now? Has that concubine already entered your household?"

Yu Chan was heartbroken. "That's not my home, it's the Zheng family's."

At first, she thought her mother-in-law treated her very well, just like her own daughter. But after she gave birth to several daughters in a row, her mother-in-law's attitude towards her became worse and worse. She would always subtly urge her to have more children, but childbirth is harmful to a woman's body and she needs to rest.

Besides, she's already had three children; there's nothing she can do if they're not boys!

"The person came in two months ago."

"What? He's been here for two months?" Su Yushan thought he had just arrived! "What about Zheng Lin? What's his attitude?"

"He has not consummated his marriage with his concubine to this day, and he says he has no intention of taking a concubine."

Thankfully, they didn't consummate the marriage, but Su Yushan still couldn't understand. "If you had no intention of doing this, then send him away! What's the point of keeping him at home?"

This is the problem that Yu Chan is most troubled by. "He mentioned it to his family, but his mother-in-law disagreed, and his cousin, Miss Xu, was unwilling to leave. She said that since she had entered the Zheng family, she was a member of the Zheng family, and she would not leave unless she died."

Hearing her sister's tone, Su Yushan had already guessed what happened next. "Miss Xu was threatening to kill herself, so Zheng Lin gave up the idea and let her stay at home?"

Yu Chan nodded, her fingers clenched tightly, her eyes red-rimmed.

Yu Shan felt great sympathy for her sister's plight, but as a concubine herself, she really didn't know how to comfort her sister, as if anything she said would be wrong.

Moreover, her younger sister was not a modern person, but a native of ancient times. Ancient people had different views on concubines. Su Yushan tentatively asked, "So what do you think?"

Yu Chan's thoughts were too contradictory, and even she herself was not sure. "What else can I do? I have been married into the Zheng family for ten years and have not given Zheng Lin a son. What right do I have to stop him from taking a concubine?"

I used to think that it was normal for men to take concubines. If he had taken concubines years ago, I might have been able to accept it calmly. But over the years, Zheng Lin has never taken a concubine and has always stayed by my side. Over time, I got used to it and thought that he would never take a concubine in his life.

Unexpectedly, this awkward situation has arisen again. I have no right to complain, yet I find it hard to accept.

Conflicting emotions tormented her. She knew Zheng Lin hadn't done anything to wrong her, and she knew this wasn't Zheng Lin's intention, but Miss Xu was still living in the Zheng family's house, and every time she saw her, Yu Chan felt uneasy.

"Sister, what should I do?"

After confiding, Yu Chan suddenly remembered that her sister was a concubine, and she felt embarrassed. "I'm not saying that concubines are bad. Sister, you were originally a secondary consort, and now you are an imperial concubine. Your status is noble, unlike ordinary concubines. They cannot be compared to you."

No matter how noble she was, she was still not the principal wife. Su Yushan could not be proud of herself just because she was a concubine. She never thought of herself as superior to others.

However, she lived in the Qing Dynasty, and Hongli's status was what it was; he had many things he couldn't control, and he had already done his best to give her the best. Therefore, Su Yushan would no longer care about these social statuses.

“I understand what you mean and I won’t overthink it. There are too many helpless situations in this world, and many people cannot control their own destiny. When I entered the manor, Hongli was not yet married, but as a prince, he had to have a principal wife. Neither he nor I had a choice. But Zheng Lin is different. He has already married you, so concubines are dispensable.”

If he were determined to take a concubine, then the concubine would be innocent. But since he doesn't want to take a concubine, your mother-in-law is making this decision on her own, disrupting your relationship as husband and wife. Zheng Lin has already stated that his cousin clearly has other options, but she insists on staying here, which is wrong of her.

If you don't love him, then whether he takes a concubine or not is irrelevant to you. Once you fall in love with someone, it's hard to accept a third person; that's human nature. You're not wrong, so don't blame yourself. You should clearly tell Zheng Lin your thoughts.

Yu Chan had also said something, but unfortunately it had little effect. "What's the use of saying it? Miss Xu was so dramatic, and her mother-in-law scolded him. After all, they were relatives, so it wasn't good to make things too awkward. He didn't send her away anymore."

"So what if she's a relative? Does that mean you should be put in a difficult position by her? Just because she wants to commit suicide doesn't mean you can just leave her here. If this goes on for too long, who knows what might happen?"

Zheng Lin didn't insist any further, and Yu Chan was also disappointed. She had rarely spoken to Zheng Lin lately. If it weren't for wanting to visit her sister at the summer resort, she would never have come out with Zheng Lin at all; the current situation at home was suffocating her.

“I can’t just kick her out, can I? What if something happens to her? Zheng Lin won’t be able to explain it to his uncle, and my mother-in-law will definitely blame me.”

The younger sister hesitated and didn't dare to say anything harsh.

Yu Shan was both angry and heartbroken at her sister's ordeal. "The Zheng family bullies you like this, taking a concubine without your permission and showing you no respect. Why should you care about them? This matter must be resolved quickly, or there will be endless trouble!"

Yu Chan was gentle and didn't like to argue with others. Su Yu Shan couldn't bear to see her sister suffer such injustice. If she didn't know, she wouldn't care, but now that she did, she was determined to stand up for her sister.

But we can't act rashly; we need to think carefully before making a decision.

Her older sister always stood by her side, and her resolute attitude guided Yu Chan's confused heart. Yu Chan felt a warm glow in her heart and felt that she finally had someone to rely on again.
