Chapter 40 The Fate of Yunmeng

"Don't you know my personality? I get excited when I see a beautiful woman, I get sleepy when I read, and I get a headache when I hear about politics. Fourth Brother, please don't make things difficult for me."

The two brothers chatted idly about family matters. In Liuxiang Tower, Yunmeng, sitting gracefully on the second floor, was the focus of attention that evening. She didn't usually like scarlet clothes, but Aunt Cai insisted that today was her big day and she should dress more festively, so she chose this scarlet embroidered peony cloak for her. The vibrant color made her makeup even more exquisite and her posture outstanding.

As she surveyed the crowd of onlookers, her anxiety grew.

She had mentioned this to the Fifth Prince that day, but he hadn't made any promises. She still held onto a sliver of hope, eagerly awaiting his arrival. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned; she waited a long time but Hongzhou never appeared.

Indeed, he is a prince of noble birth, while she is merely a prostitute who has fallen into prostitution! His feelings for her may only be a passing fancy; if he were to actually spend money to buy her, he might not come.

Having figured this out, Yunmeng lowered her eyes in disappointment, no longer looking at the chaotic scene downstairs. All she could hear were cheers and shouts of bidding. Her life was being measured in money. Yunmeng felt extremely ashamed, yet there was nothing she could do about it.

It seems no longer important who bought her tonight; her plans have all fallen through, and her wish will likely never come true.

The dejected Yunmeng remained silent, seemingly oblivious to the surrounding noise. All she knew was that the highest bidder was a young master surnamed Xu.

She vaguely remembered this young man; she seemed to have only met him once, and he appeared to be the son of a wealthy merchant. As for his name, she had no recollection of it.

After the auction ended, Yunmeng was helped into her boudoir by her maid, awaiting her unknown fate.

The steady footsteps outside grew closer, landing on her heart like the sound of drums, making her heart tremble. Knowing she couldn't escape it, she still hoped her first night would be meaningful, but now it seemed utterly meaningless.

Just as she was lost in thought, the man entered the room. To her surprise, his first words were…

"Come with me."
