Chapter 43 Murder

"My face! How come I have red rashes on my face?" When she turned around, Chang Yue was also surprised, because her mistress's fair face had several small red rashes!

Seeing her mistress in a panic, Changyue advised her not to be nervous, "Perhaps it's an allergic reaction, I'll go and fetch a doctor right away."

Given the current situation, Su Yushan dared not apply any ointments indiscriminately and could only wait for the doctor to come and diagnose her.

Just then, Hongli arrived at Tingfeng Pavilion. Su Yushan, thinking of her own face, dared not see him and immediately hid in the tent, pulling the curtains shut tightly.

Some interesting things happened in the court today, and he was just about to come back and tell her about them when he entered the inner room. But as soon as he entered, he was stopped by a shout, "Don't come in! Don't come any closer!"

Hongli, not understanding his meaning, chuckled and said, "What? Not wearing your undergarments? It's not like I haven't seen you before, why hide?"

He was about to continue walking forward when the person in the tent stopped him again, "I have a rash on my face, it looks ugly, I don't want you to see it, you should go out first!"

"Red rash? What happened?" Hongli asked about the cause, but Su Yushan couldn't explain it either. At this moment, she only had one attitude: she didn't want to see him.

After instructing the servant, Changyue turned back. Seeing that the Fourth Master had arrived, she briefly summarized the matter: "This servant has already sent someone to fetch a doctor. Only after the doctor arrived did we learn why the Princess had developed a rash."

Hongli was worried about her condition and quickly pulled open the tent curtain despite her objections. Unexpectedly, Su Yushan was hiding under the covers and insisted that he not see her.

She had a rash on her face and must be uncomfortable. If she kept covering it up like that, she would only feel worse. Helpless, Hongli had no choice but to lower the curtain.

"That's enough! I won't look. Lift the quilt and let some fresh air in. Don't cover yourself up anymore. Don't be afraid, I'll stay here with you while we wait for the doctor."

After finishing his speech, Hongli sat down at the table. Su Yushan, not hearing any movement, carefully lifted the brocade quilt and sat down in the tent.

It took almost half an hour for the doctor to arrive. He needed to examine Su Gege's symptoms to diagnose her condition, so the curtain had to be lifted.

Su Yushan didn't want Hongli to see her, so she asked him to go outside to hide for a while, but Hongli refused to go out and insisted on staying there.

To avoid making her uneasy, Hongli came up with a compromise: he suggested that she stand behind the screen.

The previous silk gauze screen has been removed, and in its place since autumn, a mahogany carved landscape screen has been installed. The bottom is openwork, and the top is all wood, so it is not translucent.

"Don't worry, I won't peek. You can let the doctor examine you."

Even though Hongli said that, Su Yushan was still worried and ordered Changyue to stand in front of her to block her.

The doctor then began to observe her rash and inquire about her diet that day. Chang Yue recounted in detail what her mistress had eaten for breakfast and lunch.

Upon learning that she had eaten crayfish for lunch, the doctor asked, "Does the princess have any allergies to fish or shrimp?"

Shaking her head, Su Yushan simply said no, "I've eaten crayfish before and had no reaction."

"Where are the bedding? Has it been checked?"

Chang Yue only knew that the bedding was sunned every three days and changed every seven days, and that there was an incense burner for repelling mosquitoes in the room. She also cleaned the room every day, so there was no way there could be mosquitoes.

Su Yushan also felt it was impossible. "If there was a problem with the quilt, then I should also have rashes on my body, but I don't have any on my body, the rashes are only on my face."

Only on the face? Stroking his beard, the doctor grew suspicious. "Did the princess apply rouge and powder this morning?"

Nodding, Su Yushan simply said that she had wiped it off.

The doctor then examined all the cosmetics on Su Gege's dressing table and unexpectedly discovered that there was a problem with one of the boxes of rouge; when a silver needle was inserted, it was found to be black!

Where did you buy this box of rouge?

There were too many cosmetics for Su Yushan to remember, but Chang Yue remembered them clearly: "This box was a gift from Princess Lan to my princess."

A gift from Xilan? Could it be that Xilan tampered with the rouge? Hongli's expression turned solemn, filled with doubt. He immediately ordered Li Yu to bring Xilan to him for questioning!

Li Yu's sudden visit surprised Xi Lan, who thought the Fourth Master had finally remembered her. However, she learned that he wasn't coming that evening, but rather wanted her to go to Tingfeng Pavilion.

"Fourth Master has some questions for you, Consort Lan. Please come with me."

It was unusual for the Fourth Master to seek her out, especially since it was at Tingfeng Pavilion. Xi Lan found it strange and tentatively asked what the Fourth Master wanted to see her about.

Li Yu did not say it explicitly, only that he would know once he went there.

After all, she was going to see the Fourth Master, so Xi Lan dared not be careless. She was currently dressed in casual clothes, which was fine staying in her room, but going out would be somewhat inappropriate. She wanted to change into more formal attire, so she said to Li Yu:

"Please wait a moment, Eunuch Li, while I dress and tidy myself up."

Li Yu said there was no need, "Appearance is not important. Fourth Master is waiting to ask questions. Princess, please set off as soon as possible!"

What could be so urgent? Seeing Li Yu's solemn expression, Xi Lan had a bad feeling, but since Li Yu wouldn't say it outright, she could only take it one step at a time.

Rushing to Tingfeng Pavilion, Xilan glanced around and saw Hongli sitting at a table covered with red silk tassels, his face somber and his thin lips tightly pressed together. This scene made her feel very uneasy, and according to etiquette, she curtsied to the Fourth Prince.

Hongli glanced at her indifferently, ignoring her. Xilan grew increasingly uneasy. Noticing the doctor was also there, she couldn't help but ask,

"What's wrong, little sister? Are you feeling unwell?"

Unable to bear her pretentious manner, Hongli slammed his fist on the table and scoffed, "You should know best what's wrong with Yushan!"

The Fourth Prince's stern rebuke made Xi Lan's heart leap into her throat. She asked anxiously in a low voice, "This concubine does not understand what the Fourth Prince means by these words. Please enlighten me."

Even now, she still dares to play dumb, barely suppressing her anger. Hongli's voice was loud and solemn, "The rouge that Yushan used has been drugged. Right now, she has a rash on her face. And that box of rouge was given to her by you. What else do you have to say?"
