Chapter 439 Violating Palace Rules

Rong Yu was so surprised because the person who came was none other than Lejur!

Lejur had just received the Emperor's order and knew that Yonghuang would come, but he did not expect that there would be another person besides Yonghuang.

He had a slight recollection of this girl; she seemed to be the princess who had helped him out of a predicament last time.

Why was the princess in his carriage? Lejur was suspicious, but he didn't ask any questions. He silently returned to his carriage and nodded to Yonghuang.

"May the eldest prince be blessed."

Yonghuang nodded in response, "I apologize for the intrusion, little prince."

"You're too kind, Your Highness." After saying this, Lejur sat there quietly and said nothing more.

Rong Yu felt something was off. Was this person ignoring her? "Hey? Why aren't you paying your respects to this princess?"

Lejur glanced at her, then lowered her eyes expressionlessly. "Greetings, Princess."

He spoke slowly and deliberately, each word emphasized, and his Mandarin was not fluent. Rong Yu crossed her arms in displeasure and huffed, "You only greet me after I tell you; that's insincere!"

"..." Paying respects was inappropriate, and not paying respects was also inappropriate. Lejur was speechless and simply stopped responding.

Seeing this, Yonghuang tried to smooth things over for his sister, saying, "Rongyu is just like that. She's very straightforward and says what she thinks without any malice. Please don't take offense, little prince."

Lejur replied calmly, "It's alright."

Rong Yu thought to herself: I am a princess! As the son of a prince, isn't it only natural for him to pay his respects to me? She has the right to question this, so why does her elder brother need to explain?

Remembering that King Darhan intended to match her with Lejur, Rong Yu felt uneasy. However, she had just had a fight with Yongzhang and it was she who said she wouldn't ride in that carriage. If she turned back now, wouldn't Yongzhang laugh at her?

She didn't want to ride in the carriages of the Empress Dowager, the Empress, or Consort Rong. The procession had already begun its journey, and if she asked to change carriages again, her father, the Emperor, would probably scold her.

With no other choice at the moment, Rong Yu had no choice but to make do and sit in the carriage.

She thought that being away from her brother would bring her some peace and quiet, but it turns out she was too naive.

Neither her elder brother nor Lejur spoke. One was reading a book, and the other was sitting quietly with his eyes closed. They were both immersed in their own worlds. Rong Yu felt rather bored by herself. She wanted to eat something, but this was Lejur's carriage, not her own, so she felt somewhat constrained.

Then, on a whim, she turned to Yonghuang and asked, "Brother, are you thirsty? Hungry? Would you like some pastries or a cup of tea?"

Yonghuang initially said he wasn't hungry, but then he realized his sister's true intention and changed his mind:

"If you're hungry, eat something first, don't worry about me."

Only then did Lejur, who had been resting with her eyes closed, belatedly realize the princess's meaning, and opened her eyes to speak:

"Please proceed, Your Highness."

That's exactly what she was waiting for! "Then I won't be polite!"

Rong Yu glanced at the pastries on the table and saw a plate of long, spiraling, golden-brown fried food. She took a bite; it was crispy and delicious. Curious, she asked...

"What's this?"

Lejur replied, "Sheep fat fried dough."

This name is weird! But the taste is pretty good.

The table was set with mostly Mongolian specialty snacks, which Rong Yu tasted one by one. When she tasted a strip of dried meat, she found it difficult to chew, but after chewing it slowly, she found it very enjoyable.

She looked at it carefully, but couldn't guess what it was, so she asked again, "What kind of dried meat is this?"

Lejur glanced at Rong Yu, a fleeting look of surprise crossing his face. He wondered how the princess could not recognize her. But he didn't ask any further questions, quickly regaining his composure and returning to his usual calm.

"Air-dried beef".

Upon hearing this, Rong Yu, who was tasting the food, froze. "Uh... this is actually beef!"

For a moment, she didn't know whether she should swallow it or not.

Seeing her strange expression, Lejur didn't understand what she meant. "It doesn't taste good?"

Actually, it was delicious, but she didn't dare say so! Rong Yu looked at her older brother with difficulty, and Yonghuang then explained for her:

"There are rules in the palace that we cannot eat beef."

Lejur then realized why she, a princess, couldn't taste the beef; it turned out there was such a rule in the palace!

Rong Yu muttered under her breath, "Well, I don't know!"

In reality, Yonghuang did not mean to blame her. "Ignorance is no excuse, but now that you know, you shouldn't try it again."

Rong Yu couldn't help but say, "But this dried beef is really delicious! It's just a bit tough on the teeth."

"Whether it tastes good or not, you can't eat any more. Just leave it there!"

Since her elder brother had spoken, Rong Yu dared not argue further. She mumbled a "hmm" and then threw the remaining half of the beef into the silver slag bin.

Having finally found something delicious, but unable to eat it, Rong Yu felt frustrated but dared not complain. She sat there listlessly, feeling rather bored.

At that moment, she suddenly missed her younger brother. If he were here, the atmosphere probably wouldn't be so awkward.

But she came out just now to avoid her younger brother! Why is she thinking about him now?

Rong Yu warned herself not to overthink things. To keep herself occupied, she grabbed a book from her older brother to pass the time.

They traveled in silence until they arrived at the Mulan Hunting Grounds. After disembarking from the carriage and seeing the vast grasslands, Rong Yu finally felt relaxed.

The imperial palace is magnificent, the summer resort is graceful and elegant, and the Mulan Hunting Ground is vast and magnificent. Each has its own beauty, but Rong Yu's favorite is the Mulan Hunting Ground.

She fell in love with this place after visiting it once last year, and has been longing to go ever since!
