Chapter 527 A Narrow Escape

More than hatred, what was hardest for Hongli to bear was the consequence of the opal shattering.

With a heart ashen with despair, Hongli slowly dropped his sword and slumped to the ground, holding the shattered opal in his hands, which trembled uncontrollably.

At this moment, his heart was shattered into pieces, and hot tears welled up in his eyes. The Empress Dowager had never seen her son in such a state. A great emperor should be full of vigor and spirit, but he shed tears because of a gemstone. If word got out, wouldn't the world laugh at him?

She was about to reprimand him when she saw Hongli's hot tears fall onto the opal, and then an astonishing scene unfolded! The shattered opal began to emit a faint beam of light!

At the same time, a beam of light pierced through the roof beams and scattered across the roof, merging with the brilliance of the opal.

With teary eyes, Hongli witnessed this strange scene and was speechless. The scene reminded him of the day Yushan had her accident. This beam of light might be the secret of "time travel" that Yushan had mentioned.

He instinctively slipped the opal ring back onto his middle finger. Instantly, a sharp pain shot through his body. He felt himself growing lighter and lighter, beginning to float slowly upwards, yet his body remained rooted to the spot. He clearly saw the Empress Dowager in a panic, bending down and calling out to him on the ground, weeping uncontrollably.

"Hongli! My son! What's wrong with you? Someone! Someone! Quickly, fetch the imperial physician!"

In that instant, Hongli felt a great sense of relief. He could not kill the Empress Dowager, but he had killed her son!

Compared to her own death, the pain of losing her son must have been more heart-wrenching for her.

But who can be blamed for this? If she hadn't insisted on taking his ring and throwing it into the fire, how could Hongli have accidentally escaped this body?

He floated higher and higher, feeling a sense of joy he had never experienced before!

However, the next moment, he became confused again. He didn't know where he would drift to. Was he dying and his soul returning to heaven, or was he like Yu Shan, drifting to another world?

He had no time to think about any of this, because he was quickly swept into the boundless void, began to spin endlessly, lost his bearings, and fell into a coma...

After an unknown amount of time, Hongli gradually regained consciousness. What came into his view was not the usual antique ornaments, but a clean and tidy room. The furnishings in the room looked somewhat familiar, very much like the environment of the world where Yushan lived.

Immediately afterwards, someone came in, opened his eyelids, examined him carefully, and then placed something cold on his chest.

These people were all dressed in white. He had seen similar attire during the time he followed Yu Shan. He vaguely remembered that these people seemed to be called doctors, similar to imperial physicians in the palace.

His mind began to race, recalling the past. It seemed that the Empress Dowager had destroyed his opal, yet the opal emitted a strange glow, and then he floated into the void.

So what's going on now? Before, only his consciousness could follow Yu Shan, and he could never touch this world. But now, the doctors can touch him, and he can truly sense them!

Could it be that he... has already come into this world?

Does this mean that he can finally see Yu Shan?

Thinking of this possibility, he was extremely excited. He tried to get up, but found that his body was very stiff and he couldn't move at all. What was going on?

He's in the hospital right now, could he be sick? The more Hongli thought about it, the more puzzled he became. His original body was still in the Qing Dynasty, and it should be his soul that came to this world. So whose body is he in now?

After three days and three nights, Hongli finally understood that the body he now possessed was indeed that of a modern person named Jin Lin.

Jin Lin is a member of a boy band who came from a talent show. In the Qing Dynasty, talent shows were all for women, but in this era, there are men. However, the purpose of talent shows now is not to fill harems, but to become artists and please the public.

Jin Lin, originally a singer, wanted to become an actor, so his company arranged for him to play the younger version of the male lead in a serious drama.

Unexpectedly, Jin Lin had just joined the crew when he had an accident while learning to ride a horse. He fell and lost consciousness and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

This delay lasted for a month, and Jin Lin's brain was severely damaged. The doctors thought that there was little hope for him to wake up, and even if he did wake up, he might become a vegetable. However, Jin Lin suddenly woke up, and not only did he not become a vegetable, he also recovered quickly within three days and was no different from a normal person!

Even the doctors were astonished. "What's going on lately? Medical miracles keep happening!"

After three days of observation, the doctor determined that he was out of danger and discharged him from the hospital.

The first thing Hongli did after being discharged from the hospital was to go find Yushan. Having followed her for so long, he clearly remembered the roads she had walked and knew roughly where she lived.

But when he arrived downstairs and saw her figure in the distance, Hongli felt a strange sense of panic. The person he had been longing for was right in front of him, yet he dared not approach her to acknowledge her, simply because he did not know how to face her.

If he directly said that he was Hongli, would she believe him? And if she did, would she hate him even more, or even drive him away?

Hongli's identity brought her too many painful memories, so he dared not use that identity to acknowledge her. After careful consideration, he decided to try a different approach...

Back in modern times, Yu Shan found a new job as an illustrator at a publishing house, creating cover illustrations for upcoming novels, turning her hobby into a job.

Actually, her job doesn't require her to go to the office every day; she can do it from home. But she always feels that she has been out of touch with society for too long and should interact with more people, so she insists on going to work every day.
