Chapter 81: A New Village Approaches After a Dark Day

Upon hearing that there was a way to solve the problem, Jin Minjing's eyes lit up, and she hurriedly asked what the good idea was. But then she heard Lizhi whisper, "We can't see Xin'er right now, but there's someone who can!"

"Oh? Who is it?"

"Yao Kun".

Li Zhi smiled meaningfully, but Jin Minjing didn't understand. She remembered that this man was Xin'er's biological father, but she didn't understand what use he was. "What can he do?"

Lizhi whispered something in Jin Minjing's ear, and after listening silently, she suddenly understood and praised Lizhi for her quick wit. With no other options at the moment, to protect herself, she had no choice but to take the risk and asked Lizhi to make the arrangements.

The following morning, Li Yu came to ask for instructions, saying that Xin'er's father, Yao Kun, was making a scene at the door, demanding to see his daughter.

Hongli raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise flashing in his dark pupils. "How did he know Xin'er was here?"

"This servant originally wanted to make up an excuse to send him away, but he insisted that he saw Xin'er being taken back to the manor yesterday, so he insisted on coming here to demand her return."

After a moment's thought, Hongli noticed something amiss: "Why didn't you make a fuss when you saw it yesterday, but only started making a scene today?"

Li Yu put his hands in a troubled position and said, "This... this servant doesn't know."

If they stopped him, Yao Kun wouldn't be able to get in, and the show would be ruined. Hongli was just worried about having no leads when, coincidentally, someone came to cause trouble. So, Hongli decided to play along.

"Then let him in. After all, she's his daughter, and it's only right that he sees her."

Upon receiving the order, Li Yu immediately went to deliver the message. After making a scene for quite some time, Yao Kun finally managed to enter the Fourth Master's residence to see his daughter.

Upon seeing his daughter unconscious in the tent, Yao Kun immediately wailed, "My daughter! How could you be so unlucky! Who hurt you like this? The incident happened at Fourth Master's residence, you have to take responsibility for my daughter!"

The maid Sui'er comforted him, "Uncle, don't panic. Fourth Master has already called a doctor and is doing his best to save her! The doctor said that Miss Xin'er is still alive and there is still a glimmer of hope. Please wait a moment, I need to give Xin'er her medicine."

Yao Kun then helped lift the unconscious Xin'er up, while Sui'er sat beside her and fed her medicine.

At this moment, Xin'er was pale and unconscious, unable to open her mouth. Yao Kun had no choice but to pinch her mouth shut and let Sui'er feed her with the spoon.

Despite their combined efforts, she couldn't swallow. A spoonful was fed to her, but most of it dribbled from the corner of her lips. Seeing this, Yao Kun clicked his tongue in disapproval.

"That won't do! You need to find a towel to put on it."

Sui'er did have her own handkerchief, but it was newly embroidered by her, and she was reluctant to give it to Xin'er. So she put down the soup bowl and said she would go find a handkerchief.

After searching around, she finally found a handkerchief, placed it under Xin'er's chin, and then prepared to continue feeding her medicine.

Just as the ceramic spoon touched her lips, a loud shout suddenly rang out from outside, "Wait—"

The sudden sound startled Sui'er, causing her hand to tremble and spill the spoonful of medicine!

Sui'er looked back and saw that the person who entered was Demin. He strode in aggressively, his sharp eyes staring directly at Yao Kun.

Yao Kun felt very uncomfortable being stared at and asked him what he meant. De Min didn't say anything, but only told Sui'er to stop feeding him the medicine and wait a moment.

The doctor instructed that the medicine should be taken on time, so why was Demin stopping him? Sui'er didn't understand, but she knew that the Fourth Master valued this person highly, so she didn't dare to argue with him and could only follow his instructions.

Yao Kun laid Xin'er down and stood silently to the side, waiting anxiously.

Upon hearing this news, Hongli was not surprised; it was all within his expectations. He then got up and went to the room where Xin'er was recuperating.

Yao Kun, a commoner, was naturally excited upon seeing the Fourth Prince. He immediately knelt down and said, "This humble subject greets Your Highness, Fourth Prince."

Hongli glanced at him but ignored him, asking Demin in a deep voice, "What's the strange thing?"

Demin only thought there was something wrong with the medicine.

Sui'er looked bewildered. "What's wrong? This medicine was brought by your servant. It's Xin'er's life-saving medicine!"

Hongli, standing with his hands behind his back, glanced at Sui'er, his gaze sweeping over her face before settling on Yao Kun. He casually instructed:

"You—drink that bowl of medicine."

Yao Kun frowned, at a loss for what to do. "This is the medicine the doctor prescribed for Xin'er. How can I drink it?"

Too lazy to argue with him, Hongli ordered again, "Drink it if I tell you to, you won't die!"

"This...I..." Yao Kun stammered, refusing to move, his expression clearly filled with fear. Hongli glanced at him, his gaze suggestive.

"What are you afraid of? Did you poison this medicine?"

When questioned, Yao Kun's heart raced, and he trembled all over, filled with anxiety. "Fourth Master, please understand, the medicine was brought by this maid. I didn't touch it. How could I possibly have poisoned it?"

“Since it’s not poisonous, then drink it.” Hongli said casually, and Yao Kun continued speaking, but Yao Kun remained motionless.

Having exhausted his patience, Hongli was unwilling to wait any longer. He gave Demin a wink, and Demin, understanding the signal, stepped forward, held Yao Kun down, and forcibly poured the medicine down his throat from the bowl of soup.

With no other options, Yao Kun had no choice but to admit that the medicine was indeed poisonous.

Demin then released him. Hongli walked to the table and sat down, staring intently at Yao Kun kneeling on the ground. "Xin'er is your own daughter. Why did you drug her?"

After catching his breath, Yao Kun said indignantly, "She says we're biological daughter, but we haven't seen each other for many years and have no feelings for each other. She's also not filial to me. She keeps her own money and won't let me use it. She's very distant."

"This is not a reason for you to kill her. She was already seriously injured. You didn't need to do anything more unless you were acting under someone's orders!"

"No one instructed me; it was all my own idea." Yao Kun insisted that he wanted to kill Xin'er, but he had no motive whatsoever. Hongli then ordered his men to take him away and interrogate him thoroughly, determined to get him to talk!
