Chapter Sixty-Five: Catching Su Yushan's Secret

Realizing he had softened his heart again, Hongli secretly warned himself that he had already apologized many times and shouldn't indulge her like this anymore. This time, he had to make Su Yushan admit her mistake first, no matter what.

Thinking of this, he simply replied with a faint "I know," and then said nothing more.

This isn't what Li Yu expected! Shouldn't his master be very worried and rush to Huatang Pavilion? Why is he so indifferent? Could it be that he's really tired of Su Gege?

Li Yu couldn't fathom his master's thoughts, so he gave up and hoped that Su Gege would show some courage and take the initiative to please the Fourth Master, so that she might have a chance to turn things around.

Chang Yue was unaware of the inside story and confidently assured that Fourth Master would come to visit Su Gege soon.

Su Yushan now understood the whole story, but she saw through it all and didn't hold out much hope. "If he really cared, he would have come directly. Why would he need to call a doctor? Li Yu is kind, but Fourth Master's heart has already flown away!"

"Then just bring him back! If it doesn't work the first time, we'll go again. As long as Fourth Master sees your sincerity, he'll definitely soften his heart."

She said it so easily, but Su Yushan chuckled and said, "You're wrong. Men and women are different. Women are more easily moved to pity, but men are not. Once he changes his mind, no matter how you try to win him back, he will never change his mind. I'm not willing to shamelessly beg him. It's pointless."

She had already tried once, but Hongli didn't appreciate it, which was enough to prove that he had chosen to give up. So she didn't want to waste her energy on him anymore and would just live her own little life.

She thought there was no such thing as true affection in this world, little did she know that her family was thinking of her.

Today is Su Jiafeng's birthday, but in fact, he himself had been so busy that he forgot. If Miss He hadn't reminded him, he wouldn't have remembered it at all.

It was cloudy and rainy today, and there weren't many customers in the restaurant. Around 9 PM, the customers all left.

He Yunning specially reserved a few dishes for Su Jiafeng. After everything was arranged, everyone sat together to celebrate his birthday.

This atmosphere made him feel warm, and Su Jiafeng finally realized that even when she was alone, she could still feel the feeling of home.

In high spirits, he drank a few more glasses and became somewhat drunk. He Yun Ning was worried that something might happen to him, so she asked someone to take him home, but Su Jia Feng said it wasn't necessary.

"I'm going the same way as Lan Xin, so let's go together."

Lanxin is the new name Xin'er gave herself. The two did go the same way, so they would walk home together every night.

Everyone was making a fuss and teasing the two of them, but He Yunning remained silent, her face still pale.

As a woman herself, how could Xin'er not see through He Yuning's thoughts? It's just a pity that she is the daughter of a wealthy family in a restaurant, and she always speaks loudly. She has never been gentle with Su Jiafeng, nor has she ever taken the initiative to express anything. Su Jiafeng is straightforward and doesn't understand these things at all. Therefore, he has always kept a certain distance from He Yuning, but he is very close to Xin'er.

After all, the two are from similar backgrounds and have both experienced hardship, making it easier for them to empathize with each other.

Xin'er saw through it but didn't say anything. After the banquet, she followed Su Jiafeng home as usual.

On the way back, Su Jiafeng staggered a little. Xin'er repeatedly reminded him to be careful, but Su Jiafeng just smiled indifferently and said, "I'm not drunk, so don't worry."

Recalling the events at the banquet, Xin'er asked, "What wish did you make before eating the longevity noodles?"

The rain had stopped, the sky was overcast and dark, with no stars in sight. Only the faint light from a few lanterns along the roadside illuminated their path. A gust of autumn wind blew by, and Su Jiafeng felt dizzy and lightheaded, each step feeling as unsteady as if she were walking on cotton.

"My wish is to have the opportunity to see my sister. I haven't seen her for several months."

If Xin'er were still in the Fourth Master's mansion, she might be able to help him achieve this wish. But now that she has been expelled from the mansion and has no chance to go back in, she can't help Su Jiafeng anymore; she can only offer him suggestions.

“If you miss her, you can try going to the Fourth Prince’s mansion. Just say you need to see Princess Su. Princess Su is currently favored by the Fourth Prince, and they should let you in.”

He had actually thought about it, but after much deliberation, he was too embarrassed to go. "I heard that the other maids all come from noble families with powerful and influential relatives. I am poor and penniless, and I would only embarrass my sister. It would be better not to go."

"You're overthinking it. You and your brother have such a good relationship, Su Gege definitely won't look down on you."

“My sister certainly won’t look down on me, but I don’t want to make her a laughingstock. Besides, I don’t have anything serious to do, so I won’t make a fuss. As long as she’s doing well, that’s enough.”

Xin'er admired his maturity and comforted him, saying, "Don't be so self-deprecating. You're actually a good person. You're helpful, smart, and kind. You just need a good opportunity. When you meet a benefactor in the future, you'll definitely rise to great heights."

Su Jiafeng, who was rarely praised, was a little embarrassed when she heard this. She laughed self-deprecatingly and said, "I have neither knowledge nor any special skills. It is difficult for me to have any future."

During the time they spent together, Xin'er observed him carefully and found that he had a real talent for business. "I think you're very good at accounting! You're cut out to be a businessman."

“Doing business requires a lot of capital, and I don’t have much of a chance anymore. I’m just hoping my brother can pass the imperial examination. He was supposed to take the provincial examination this year, but unfortunately, he was delayed because of my sister and the Zheng family.” Speaking of this, Su Jiafeng felt quite sorry and shook her head repeatedly.

Upon hearing this, Xin'er suddenly sensed that there might be something fishy going on, so she continued to ask, "What is your sister's relationship with the Zheng family?"

In the past, Su Jiafeng might have hesitated to bring it up, but tonight he was drunk, and subconsciously trusted her completely, so she didn't hide it and blurted it out.
