Chapter Twenty-Five: Pleading for Kim Min-jeong

For example, in this matter, even though he went to Princess Gao's place last night, Su Yushan would not resent Princess Gao because of it. What angered her was Hongli's attitude, not a particular maid.

As it turns out, reason is still beneficial; guarding one's heart is the only way to avoid being harmed.

Chang Yue was afraid that she would be upset, so she comforted her that Fourth Master was just angry and would come back after he calmed down. Su Yushan didn't care whether he would come back or not.

He was a sentimental man by nature. When he was in the mood, he would come every day. Once the novelty wore off, he would no longer want to put up with her. This was only human nature. Su Yushan understood this clearly. As long as she didn't take him seriously, nothing could affect her mood.

She herself didn't care, but such things easily spread throughout the manor. When Jin Minjing learned that Hongli hadn't accompanied Su Yushan on her birthday and hadn't visited Tingfeng Pavilion for several days afterward, Jin Minjing was overjoyed, her phoenix eyes brimming with undisguised delight.

"Heaven has finally opened its eyes! This little vixen has finally gotten her comeuppance!"

So now, shouldn't this be her chance to turn things around?

Kim Min-jung was overjoyed, hoping that Hongli would remember their past relationship and come to her again. However, Hongli went to Lan Yue Pavilion instead.

Since learning of Gao Xiuwen's pregnancy, Hongli has frequently stayed at her place. Gao Xiuwen is grateful for his care, but she still feels compelled to say something.

"Fourth Master, I also hope to see you often, but unfortunately I am pregnant and it is inconvenient for me to serve you. Why don't you go to one of your other sisters' places? I won't mind."

After speaking for a long time without receiving a reply, Gao Xiuwen began to wonder if she had said something wrong.

"Fourth Master, Fourth Master?" she called twice before Hongli came to his senses. "Hmm? What did you say?"

Noticing that he seemed a little absent-minded, Gao Xiuwen asked curiously, "What are you thinking about, Fourth Master? Why are you so distracted? Is something bothering you?"

He had stayed here for three nights in a row. He hadn't seen Su Yushan these past few days. There seemed to be no movement from Tingfeng Pavilion. Su Yushan hadn't sent any maids to say anything either. At this moment, Hongli couldn't help but wonder if Su Yushan would feel uncomfortable without his company at night. Would she miss him, or even resent or hate him?

He was lost in thought, so much so that he didn't hear Gao Xiuwen speaking to him clearly. He only vaguely replied, "They're just trivial matters, it's nothing."

Hongli asked her what she had just said, and she had no choice but to repeat it.

Upon hearing this, Hongli looked at her and chuckled softly, "Everyone else wants me to come over, but you're the one who's trying to drive me away."

She didn't want him to leave either, but her mother had warned her that she had to be generous in the Fourth Master's backyard. She couldn't just do things according to her own preferences, and she couldn't always monopolize him. That's why she took the initiative to say these things, "I'm doing this for your sake, because I'm afraid you'll suffer!"

Ever since his argument with Su Yushan, he'd lost his appetite and hadn't been thinking about finding another woman. He just wanted some peace and quiet. Gao Xiuwen was gentle and spoke slowly and methodically, which was why he was willing to stay here.

"You're not feeling well, so I'll stay by your side to take care of you. Besides, even if I'm young, I can't be with women every day; I need to take care of my health, don't I?"

After he finished speaking, he couldn't help but recall that Su Yushan seemed to have mentioned this word to him before. However, he didn't know what was wrong with him lately, but he would always involuntarily think of some details of his time with her.

This state of mind frustrated him. Hongli did not want to think about her anymore, and then talked to Gao Xiuwen about other things, saying, "I feel very comfortable here with you. You don't need to feel any pressure, and don't be afraid of what others say."

Since that's the case, Gao Xiuwen didn't say anything more, lest he find it annoying.

Gao Xiuwen's pregnancy was not yet public knowledge, and the other maids were unaware of it. Jin Minjing assumed that Hongli was staying at Lanyue Pavilion and doting on Gao Xiuwen every day. It would be a lie to say she wasn't jealous, but she knew that her current situation was awkward and she shouldn't dwell on these things. The most urgent thing was to find a way to lift her confinement. Since Hongli loved Gao Xiuwen so much, she would start with Gao Xiuwen...

For several days in a row, Lan Yue Pavilion received calligraphy, paintings, and jewelry from Jin Minjing. The little maid, Hong Qiang, couldn't help but wonder...

"It's not a holiday, what's the meaning behind Princess Jin's constant gift-giving?"

Cui Ning smiled knowingly, "She probably wants to curry favor with our princess, hoping the princess will plead for her in front of the Fourth Prince and lift her confinement!"

As they spoke, Cui Ning carefully unfolded the calligraphy and painting. Gao Xiuwen glanced at it and discovered that the calligraphy was done by Cai Xiang. Cai Xiang's characters were robust and dignified, simple and elegant, forming a unique style and possessing great collection value. Jin Minjing's willingness to give her this calligraphy showed his sincerity.

Cui Ning asked her mistress in a low voice, "Princess, do you intend to help her?"

Previously, Hongli clearly favored Su Gege and neglected Jin Minjing, so Gao Xiuwen was unwilling to have anything to do with Jin Minjing. Now that Hongli has fallen out with Su Gege, Jin Minjing is very likely to regain favor.

Since this was bound to happen sooner or later, I might as well do Kim Min-jung a favor and earn her gratitude, which is better than being resented by her.

Thinking of this, Gao Xiuwen said, "I'll give it a try, but whether Fourth Master will agree is still uncertain!"

That evening, when Hongli came to Lanyue Pavilion again, Gao Xiuwen casually mentioned the matter, "Today I passed by Pixia Pavilion and stopped by to visit Princess Jin. I saw her practicing calligraphy!"

"Oh?" Hongli was quite surprised. "She's so impatient, yet she can practice calligraphy?"

“After you taught her, she benefited greatly, which is why she decided to practice calligraphy to cultivate her character and temper her temper.”

Stroking the white jade thumb ring between his thumbs, Hongli chuckled and said, "I hope she has truly repented and is not just putting on an act for others."
