Chapter Twenty-Six: Hongli's New Favor

With a soft sigh, Gao Xiuwen felt quite troubled. "Yesterday I mentioned Xin'er to Fourth Master. He said that the girl was unruly and deserved some punishment. I had to plead with him to lift your confinement. As for Xin'er, you should not mention her to Fourth Master for the time being, lest you anger him again and get yourself into trouble."

If you can't bear to see her suffer, then have someone bribe the maids in the laundry quarters. For the sake of the money, they shouldn't bully her anymore.”

Jin Minjing desperately wanted to save Xin'er, but her situation was also very difficult. Although the Fourth Prince had lifted her confinement, he still hadn't come to visit her. As long as he didn't stay overnight, she wouldn't have a moment's peace.

Under such circumstances, she dared not take the risk of offending Hongli again for Xin'er's sake, as it would be a loss. She had to wait until she regained his favor before saving Xin'er.

After saying all this, Jin Minjing casually inquired, "I heard that Fourth Master hasn't been to Tingfeng Pavilion lately, but I wonder why? What did Su Yushan do wrong?"

Gao Xiuwen wasn't entirely clear on the matter either. She had sent people to inquire, but they hadn't gotten any information. The people at Tingfeng Pavilion were very tight-lipped. She had also asked Hongli, but he was tight-lipped and unwilling to discuss it further, so Gao Xiuwen had to give up.

"Since the Fourth Master is unwilling to elaborate, we should not ask too many questions, lest we displease him."

Tilting her head slightly, Jin Minjing whispered a reminder: "This Su Yushan is no pushover. She may seem weak, but she's actually quite cunning! You'd better be careful of her, sister."

With so many women in the backyard, how could she possibly defend herself against them all? Gao Xiuwen never wanted to do such futile work. "Fourth Master's thoughts are unpredictable. We can't control who he likes, but if you are pregnant with a son or daughter and have Fourth Master's blood, then Fourth Master will naturally value you even more."

After hearing Gao Xiuwen's words, Jin Minjing realized how foolish she had been. She had only been thinking about how to win Hongli's heart and had never considered the matter of the child. Only today did she come to her senses.

"I was thinking too superficially. Thank you for your advice, sister. But since Fourth Master hasn't come, it's difficult for me to get pregnant!"

"You can't rush these things. You have to seize the opportunity yourself and also leave it to fate."

Since becoming pregnant, Gao Xiuwen has been particularly prone to drowsiness. She started yawning even before having lunch.

Seeing this, Kim Min-jung wisely took her leave and did not stay for lunch.

On her way back to her room, she caught a glimpse of Hongli's study in the distance. She longed to see him, but remembering the rule that maids were not allowed to go to the study on their own initiative, she gave up and turned back to her own room.

At this moment, Hongli was in his study, but his mind had already wandered far away. Idly turning the pages of a book, he felt somewhat uneasy and casually asked, "Is there any noise over there?"

Li Yu was stunned for a moment before realizing that his master was referring to Tingfeng Pavilion as "over there." Understanding, he immediately replied...

"There's nothing happening over there right now. I heard that Su Gege's meals haven't been very good lately, but she hasn't complained. Instead, she's had someone buy some ingredients and is cooking in her own little courtyard!"

The kitchen didn't serve good food, so she actually cooked for herself? When it comes to food, she really never wants to compromise on anything!

Closing the book, Hongli scoffed, "She's really getting more and more audacious!"

Despite his harsh words, the master showed no anger on his face. Li Yu had already guessed his thoughts and suggested, "Why don't you go and see what kind of style the princess has transformed Tingfeng Pavilion into, Fourth Master?"

In fact, Hongli had the same idea, but he had no excuse. Li Yu gave him a way out, so he took the opportunity and said, "I really have to go and see. If I don't do something about it, she might tear the roof off!"

Ever since Hongli neglected her, the kitchen staff have been opportunistic, preparing increasingly worse and worse meals for her. Su Yushan sighed inwardly at how snobbish these people were, but there was nothing she could do about it.

Fortunately, Hongli had given her one hundred taels of silver earlier, which came in handy now. She ordered people to tidy up the tea room. Changyue had reminded her that it was forbidden to set up a small stove or cook in the backyard without permission. Therefore, Su Yushan did not build a stove, but only had some kitchen knives, bowls and plates and simple seasonings bought.

Last time she strolled through the back garden, she accidentally discovered several tomato plants growing there. The tomatoes were very small, about the size of three cherry tomatoes. She wanted to pick them to eat, but Chang Yue stopped her, saying that they were for ornamental purposes, not for food.

It's such a waste to just let people look at such delicious food.

The greedy Su Yushan asked Chang Yue to keep an eye on them for her, while she went over and stole five or six herself. After leaving them for two days until they turned red, she washed them, cut them into pieces, added some white sugar, and mixed them together. Without using any fire, a cold dish was ready.

Su Yushan personally brought the plate for Chang Yue to try, but Chang Yue looked fearful and dared not try it. "Nobody eats this stuff. Could it be poisonous? Princess, let's not take the risk, shall we?"

"How could it be poisonous? These are fruits and vegetables, it would be a waste to only admire them! They are really delicious, you'll know once you try them." She wanted to share the food with others, but Chang Yue didn't dare to try it at all. She always felt that these red fruits must be poisonous. No matter how she explained and clarified, Chang Yue was still hesitant.

"Your break room is quite lively!"

A clear voice suddenly rang out from outside the door. The voice was so familiar that Su Yushan turned around and saw a tall, handsome figure in violet light standing in the doorway. The sunlight streaming in from the doorway gently shone on him, making his features appear even more refined and radiant!

Su Yushan has to objectively say that Hongli's looks are really pleasing to the eye, but his personality is really awful!

He doesn't feel guilty for doing wrong things; instead, he blames her for not understanding him. She's not going to be foolish enough to blame herself for that and will just forget about him.
